Given the size of the images, I've excluded them from my response.

The photo of the pen is difficult to read due to reflections on the barrel, but I was interested to note that the boots have a vibram-type sole I associate with hiking or maybe workman's boots. Boots of this type don't seem to be present in Kaufman's current line-up of men's footwear:

https://www.pskaufman.com/collections/mens-footwear

So that begs the question of if Kaufman no longer makes boots like those worn by the deceased, when did they stop making them? Obviously this would help narrow down when he died.

Also, looking at the prices of Kaufman footwear - at current exchange ranges CAD 395 is USD 315, GBP 241 or AUS 397.

These were not cheap boots, in fact they were pretty damned expensive which probably tells us something about the social or economic position of the man who wore them.

I was searching for Kaufman boots. The company made various styles but the one that closely resembles his are called BADLANDERS. I found numerous ones that are vintage or old/new stock on different sites. Here is an example of one.
image.jpegimage.jpeg
These image are from an eBay ad this is the link https://www.ebay.com/b/Kaufman-Mens-Boots/11498/bn_159639

I also came across when Kaufman Footwear Inc Trademarked the Name BADLANDERS for the Boots looks like they filed for the trademark name in June 28,1976 and it was actually registered in March 1, 1977 and expired in Dec 2, 1997.
Here is the link for that http://www.trademarkia.com/badlanders-73091794.html

So with that Iam thinking the boots were probably not out on the market before June 1976 or if they where they prob were out for a couple of months which might help narrow the timeframe more.

Has anyone noticed if they mention what color the John Does Jacket and pants were? I know they mention brands but I have not seen colors mentioned anywhere? Thank you
In the other thread that was started I did read that the style of the jacket was Western but I still don't have a color ugh this does get frustrating.
I also noticed it says the John Doe had a wallet with 2 fades photos. I wish they would release more info!!!

I found some info on the trademark for the Barry Dolan Jacket. It was owned by company called Shanhouse Outwear in Magnolia Arkansas
http://www.trademarkia.com/barry-dolan-73620649.html
Looks like their first trademark was in 1962 but then reapplied for the trademark on the name again in 1986 but then let it go in 1988.

So if the Boots where trademarked in 1976/77 and the coat lost the trademark in 1988 then Iam assuming the timeframe of this John Doe would be from 1976 to like 1988...

That pen looks like the "giveaway" type a company might have had printed up with their address and phone number. There would have been a metal ring that fit between the blue and white ends of the barrel, though this probably rusted away. I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere, but there's a faded American flag on the white end of the barrel. Not sure if that was a business showing its patriotism or possibly an indication the pen was printed around the Bicentennial in 1976.

Yes I noticed the flag also. and Great point there tatertot yes Bicentennial in 1976 many businesses were running with the American Flag theme.. Oh that is great!!!

I wonder if the FTACORE on the pen stands for the federal transit administration corporation?

I too, think this is around the year 1975 or 1976.

Corduroy pants/jeans were popular in the high school I went to in 1976.

I was looking up something yesterday online and there was something from 1975 about the bicentennial 1976 from the transit system in Detroit. The area from where that pen is from is near the transit system according to maps I looked at.

IMOO.

I searched the Detroit Free Press's archives for the phone number on the pen. A company called "Metacore" with the same number (although the area code is not included) ran several ads in 1979 trying to sell a '69 Diamond REO Tandem dump truck.

http://freep.newspapers.com/search/#query=Diamond+REO+tandem&dr_year=1978-1979

A search for "Metacore" revealed multiple ads to buy scrap aluminum transitions; these ran in 1983 and there are two addresses listed for the company, both in Detroit. The name admittedly sounds like a metal recycling company, and those definitely use heavy-duty dump trucks in their daily operations.

So maybe FTACore became Metacore sometime prior to 1979, though that still doesn't tell us when the UID acquired the pen.

So, we have a rough timeframe from 1976 (when the boots were trademarked) to 1979 (when we know the company in the building on the pen was no longer known as FTACore, but as Metacore).

This is complete conjecture, but I'd guess it was toward the earlier range of this timeframe. From what I know corduroy was more popular in the mid-70s than the late-70s with the onset of the disco craze. (Please correct me if this is incorrect, older sleuthers.) In addition, I doubt someone would carry around a pen that was several years old which is a basic/cheap one that offices and business give out as adversting.

I have been trying to find when Wrangler came out with Corduroy Jeans for men.. I have not found anything yet..I do believe it was mid seventies.. I remember my neighbor and I had the same rust colored corduroy jeans.

I did find this http://www.metv.com/lists/fashion-trends-that-1970s-kids-will-remember-all-too-well

and this is one of the comments from some one on the thread: Do they even make corduroys anymore? They were the wintertime replacement for denim jeans and came in a variety of colors. I sold them when I worked in the Young Men's department at Hughes & Hatcher from 1978-80.

I found this also http://visforvintage.net/2012/05/03/history-of-corduroy/

During the late 1960s and 1970s corduroy becomes fashionable again.* It becomes a symbol of anti-establishment as a natural, less rigid material in neutral colours. The faded, worn look of the 1960s gives way to an explosion of colour and pattern in the 1970s. Corduroy jeans start to become a widespread staple of informal dressing still popular today.
Post- 1970s corduroy becomes unfashionable yet again, despite the launch of a 1982 Versace line of men’s clothing in corduroy.

I wish we had another view of the pen to see the full address and name on the pen I know it states 1294 but I was looking at the pen(from what I can see) and the last number looks slanted almost like a 7 not a 4.

Anyway I went to maps with the zip code of 48210 and I believe that is Wayne County.. but if you look over to the right a bit on the other side of the highway is where 17th street is and there is an area called CORE CITY..hence FTACORE and METACORE corp. Made me wonder if it was and industrial park.. then I found a historical map from 1973 and it looks to be like it was an industrial park.

Andrew Jackson Greer Jr.

http://www.nampn.org/cases/greer_andrew.html

Missing Since: February 12, 1979 from Addison, Lenawee County, Michigan
Classification: Endangered Missing
Date Of Birth: August 11, 1963
Age: 15
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 150 lbs.

Eye Color: Blue
Race: White

Details of Disappearance
Andrew Jackson Greer was last seen on February 12, 1979 in Addison, MI. Greer was suspended from school for allegedly bringing a pocket knife to school and never returned home. He was a student at Addison High School at the time and lived with his family on Burton Road. Greer went with a friend to spend time at a clubhouse on the friend's family’s property south of Addison. Eventually, they parted ways.

Greer was reported missing by his mother at 5:10 p.m. that day.

Rumors circulated the school campus and beyond that Greer was allegedly killed and buried near a barn, or he was last seen hitchhiking along U.S. 127 near Hudson. No solid evidence to support either scenario came to light. The investigation resulted in no leads as to Greer’s whereabouts.

Greer had neither a driver’s license nor a Social Security number at the time he disappeared.
