Jaw dropping case!! It's just unbelievable!!


Robin never arrived at the restaurant and has never been heard from again. The shopping center is less than one mile from her residence. Her mother's red Oldsmobile, which she had borrowed for her trip to the shopping center, was located near the Burger King restaurant in the mall's parking lot shortly afterwards. Her keys, wallet, purse and checkbook were discovered in a marshy, grassy area behind the center several days later.

Investigators don't believe Robin ran away from home. Less than two weeks before she disappeared, she bought candy and presents for her younger siblings for Easter, but disappeared before the holiday.

She dropped out of high school prior to her disappearance to take a job at the Shop-Rite supermarket, but had decided to return to school and planned to eventually enroll in college and become a journalist. Esposito was questioned regarding Robin's case and cleared as a possible suspect early in the investigation.

Authorities announced that Howard J. Gombert Jr. was a suspect in Robin's disappearance after his arrest on sexual assault and child endangerment charges in March 2000. He was taken into custody after sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl, as well as his own girlfriend, and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

When the police arrested him in 2000, they found Robin's underwear hidden in a suitcase in his girlfriend's house; they were able to get DNA from the underwear and match it to Robin. Gombert had no explanation for how it got there. He had previously resided in Carmel and was employed at a laundromat in the shopping center where Robin disappeared, and he knew her. He stated he had spoken to Robin the day she disappeared and asked her for advice about his girlfriend, and they talked for a few minutes.

In the days after she went missing, Gombert attempted suicide and had to be hospitalized. He has never been charged in connection with her disappearance. He has a prior criminal record and had been charged with first-degree rape in 1991, but the charge was dismissed when the thirteen-year-old alleged victim recanted her story shortly after his arrest.

Is this for real? I mean the charley project is reputable afaik, but this seems too sensational!

What I don’t understand if this account is true, is under what probable cause did they exact in order to do the search of the girlfriend’s house? They must have specified it was for the reason of obtaining evidence related to Robin’s case? When the DNA matched it wasn’t enough to file charges?

Meghan, the founder and only poster for the Charley Project, is 100% meticulous. Occasionally something on the page isn't correct because it hasn't been updated, but she always, always, bases everything she says on what's reported in reputable sources.

It is legit, I have no doubt they got the right suspect in Robin’s case. I just hope they find her body and he confesses to police about what he did to her.

The only other person who could have done it was Gombert's girlfriend since he mentioned her and the suitcase with Robin's underwear was in the girlfriend's house... But even if it was the girlfriend, Gombert was obviously complicit in the murder in some important way, like Robin's kidnapping... He may have tried to commit suicide because he didn't realize his girlfriend was going to kill Robin. It could have been some three-way sex that went horribly wrong...
but I don't think three-way sex is much of a possibility considering the way Robin was described, her relationship with her boyfriend who she was trying to meet that night, and the fact that Gombert was 30 and she was 17. ... Although I feel that the girlfriend might know something... we just have to wait to find her remains since that Gombert guy has no reason to admit anything...

An excavator found the remains after digging at the site of a future single-family home near Ice Pond Road and Tommy Thurber Lane, said New York State Police Sgt. Aaron Hicks.

The location is not far, less than three miles, from where the remains of another missing Putnam County girl, 12-year-old Josette Wright, were found in 1995.

Murphy's mother, Judi Allen, lives in upstate Otsego County, and was unavailable for comment. Allen's niece, Lisa Landiver, noted in a Facebook post that the family had not been contacted by authorities. She told the USA Today Network on Thursday that "the speculation has caused too much grief for my aunt."

I have a feeling it’s Robin, maybe this will help show Josette wasn’t killed by the two men originally convicted of killing her. If the remains are Robin’s, it’ll cast more suspicion on Gombert
 
They believe the remains belong to a female with extensive dental work, between the ages of 16-28 and deceased more than 10 years. Article states the DNA does not match Robin.
