What are y'alls thoughts on this...why did the person run from the cabin? Why not incapacitate the owner and steal his car? Prisoner probably could have gotten some distance before him and the cabin before anyone found out. Really curious about that.

My first thought as well

Presumably they have canines working. I would have thought they had found them by now.

Maybe one of the owners showed up in his uniform or maybe he had a handgun in a holster and it may have freaked out the convict to where he didnt want to take on an officer of the law.

Or maybe even a LE hat or something.

To answer the other post about roads. Most all cabins that are frequently used will at least have a dirt road going up to it where they could drive to it. Sometimes just ATV type dirt road.

Because of the gear you need to haul to cabin, they usually have some sort of dirt road at a minimum.

Rain washing away scent?

Exactly. And I think people are forgetting this started on Saturday. Unknown time. But they had torrential rain last night, at the very least.

This starting on Saturday is what leads me to believe this may sadly, be a lost cause. Who knows how long it took LEO to get in place. 3 hours is a lot of lead time. Look what 7 hours got them the first night!!

I am just so devastated for all involved. Their frustration levels are at all time highs. Their mental and physical well being is being taxed to no end.

Sweat has already killed a Law Officer.

Previous posts said that there was no road to the cabin. We have what are called cartways which are not roads but provide access. They would not be maintained. Of course you have to get there and ATV's and snowmobiles are so available .

If the person came on an ATV or even a car, wouldn't the noise be heard for a while?

I cannot see the reason for anyone walking in to a property very far when an ATV would work

Not sure if this has been referenced. But it is rather interesting...

"The camp where this possible sighting took place is about 3 miles south of Bellinger's restaurant, which is located at the corner of county Route 27 and Wolf Pond Road"

It really is out in nowhere. Wow.

[I wonder if "John" the cabin owner had to change his boxers!!!]

We know there's mail delivery in that area, so there must be more than just a dirt road, right?

@EditorLois: Cxxxx Lxxxxxxx, who delivers mail to about 40 boxes in the Wxxx Pxxx Road area near the sighting, has a police ATV escort. #PrisonBreakNY

Although we also have this...

@KClukey_TU: Source: This wasn't a luxury cabin. Was very spartan, had outhouse, makeshift shower and no cell service #PrisonBreakNY

"Their camp off Wolf Pond Road is probably at least a mile in," Bellinger said. "(John) drove his ATV in and saw somebody running away. He went inside and said the place had been disturbed. He said there was a water jug on the table and a peanut butter jar on the table that was opened."

I'm thinking that both Sweat and Matt were there. One of them took off running quickly when they heard the ATV and the cabin owner didn't see him. The other escapee was probably caught more off guard (probably the one without socks and underwear) and ran out a little bit later. The cabin owner saw the second person, but not the first. It looks like such a highly wooded area that the first escapee wouldn't have to run far at all to not be noticed by the cabin owner. (just my opinion)

It really does make you wonder about the guy that went up there to check on the cabin by himself and how he approached the cabin.

He would have had to know about the possible danger and usually they would bring a buddy so it is surprising he went alone.

If that place really did not have a road it does make you wonder how he approached it.
I agree if he had an ATV or something then the convict should have heard him sooner than he did.

The way the convict ran out the back almost makes me think maybe the guy did walk up to it.
Really interesting. The guy had guts going up there alone like that. Maybe he did have a gun and that would give you some courage to approach it. But still. wow.

I would guess there would be no mail delivery, but if there is, there could be many boxes on a main road and people access their mail from the main road

(OT: did you ever go to make a healthy lunch then get caught up with websleuths and pressers and then run out of time and work more and then remember there's pasta boiling and then go check on it and you never actually turned it onto high from low so it's just sort of sitting there wet so you just grab a bag of miniature butterfinger candies and get back to work but stop in at websleuths first to post about it? yeah, that just happened.)

:hilarious:

welcome to my world :D

The article states that it does not appear the killers used the trail but came in through the woods.

I am completely map impaired. Walking through woods is almost impossible. You can follow deer trails but so what? They usually lead to water and have fallen trees and plenty of brush.

How did these killers find this remote shack?

It was quoted earlier they walked down power line access. That makes sense as those areas may not be easy walking, but they are clear of trees . Easier to walk and you see where you are going and won't get lost or turned around. Is the shack close to powerlines?

Just to clarify (links are on previous pages going back as far as perhaps 14? this morning) - DNA of BOTH were found at the cabin which has no road leading up to it and is located in the woods. One man was glimpsed running out the back. Boots and bloody socks and toiletries were found that were considered of forensic importance. And a pair of prison issue boxer shorts style underwear.

Wonder how the cell service is up in that neck of the woods?

It would probably be pretty spotty, being so remote and also mountainous. That will probably be an issue for LE, as they've been trying to keep communications off the scanner.

First press conference I saw they thanked Verizon wireless for upgrading their towers at LE's request, saying that has been of vital importance for them. That means, IMO, that they're using cell phones quite a bit instead of the scanner probably. IMO.
