Slain hedge funder Thomas Gilbert Sr. was warned his son, Thomas Gilbert Jr​.​, was “a crazy person” before junior allegedly shot him in the head in January.

But Gilbert Sr. laughed it off, according to a Vanity Fair report.

Benjamin Wallace writes that Peter Smith Jr. — a former classmate of Gilbert Jr.’s who’d taken him under his wing and then had to get a restraining order — told Gilbert Sr. about his son’s bizarre behavior.

“Peter confronted Tommy’s dad and said, ‘You’ve got to figure out your f–king son ’cause he’s a crazy person,’” a friend of Smith’s reportedly said.

But for Gilbert Sr., “It was always: ‘Tommy’s Tommy — what are you going to do? Hahaha.’ ”

So basically taking drugs is his excuse, I guess that makes half the people I know insane. I'm going to have to say what a load of ...... I think if the person's insane and they did the crime, they still ought to do the time. Put them into treatment until fit for jail.

Thomas Gilbert Jr's last court appearance was in April where it was revealed that he was refusing to be tested. He believed that the district attorney’s doctors were impostors. His lawyer wanted another competency test done but the judge refused.
