Like some here suspected - there were people out there who recognized him from the photos and security video, but none of them came forward. Nice folks.

I can't even imagine seeing a story on the news, and seeing a perp video released by the police and thinking "hey, that looks like my son". My very next thought would be "there is NO WAY that's my son".

LORAIN — Police believe Justin A. Christian may be linked to the attempted abductions of several school girls in February from the city’s west side.

.....

In Lorain, the girls were approached on the city’s west side. The first incident happened at 6:07 a.m. in the area of Washington Avenue and West Ninth Street. The man grabbed a juvenile girl by the arm, made a threatening comment and punched her twice. She screamed and the man ran from the area. Neighbors heard the girl’s screams and told police the man ran toward West Eighth Street.

At 7:20 a.m. in the area of Oberlin Avenue and West Eighth Street, a man believed to be the same man exposed himself and followed a juvenile girl into a yard before running west on West Eighth Street.

About 26 minutes later in the area of West 18th Street and Oakdale Avenue, a man grabbed a girl from behind and ran east on West 18th Street when she started kicking and screaming.

The oldest girl was 15 and the others were younger elementary-aged students. Sivert said Lorain police cannot say for certain in Christian is connected to the cases, but they aren’t ruling it out.

“We believe the same suspect was involved in these (attempted abductions) just based on the proximity of where he lived in relation to where the incidents occurred,” Sivert said. “The physical description, clothing description and victims he was targeting all lead us to believe he is possibly a suspect in those cases.”

About a week prior to the attempted abductions in Elyria and Lorain, 2-year-old Lana Lowther went missing from her Randall Street home and was found by a driver standing in the middle of the road about a mile and a half from her home.

He was a "teddy bear" of a guy and has two daughters. A lot of people who knew him recognized him and his car in the sketch and video, but couldn't believe it was him. So they didn't say anything to LE.

Upstanding citizen, on Dean's List at the community college, served on the student senate, volunteered, etc. Outgoing, friendly. We need to remember this profile.

“I never would have thought it because he’s got a little girl,” said the woman, who asked that her name not be used.

The similarity in the suspect sketch and Christian also caught the eye of Webb, who said he told his friend he looked like the guy and his car was eerily similar. He also said the car only came into Christian’s possession after his brother died in January.

Webb said Christian has two daughters and attends Lorain County Community College. He attended Northwood Middle School and Elyria High School.

“Every woman I have ever known describes him as a teddy bear. This guy is the most caring guy I have ever met,” he said. “I wouldn’t describe Justin as a violent person.”

Tracy Green, the college’s vice president of strategic and institutional development, said Christian has been a student for two years. She said he has served as a student senator, is majoring is business and is considered a student in good standing at the college. Christian’s been on the dean’s list and has volunteered as a peer tutor, she said.

He assured his friends that he is innocent. He's upbeat, in a "good place".

His dad, however, met with FBI and heard from them about the case against his son and he's afraid it's true. I feel bad for the dad, he's practically sobbing in this interview, wondering how he could do this to somebody's children.

I would be destroyed if I found out my son had done something like this. I really feel for his dad :(.

I didn't see the pc, so I apologize if I have it wrong. Did they say SHE was on social media? The little girl? Because I would assume it was something like he saw pics of her on a parent page. And found her after that. Not that she was actually on sm. Does that makes sense according to what they said? I'm so angry at this creep. And so glad they got his nasty butt.

I would assume that it was a photograph of the girl on her parent's page. To an extent, social media in general does have age restrictions and I doubt that a six year old would be able to bypass those. I work in social media and I think the youngest I've seen with their own active public account would be eleven.

There has been talk of a new social media platform aimed at young teenagers by facebook creeping into the mainstream soon though, and although it is supposed to be "secure", it's definitely something we should be keeping an eye on.

Sick Sick Sick!

Thank God he's off the streets. And he has two little girls of his own?

Disgusting. I hope they put him away for a very very long time.

CLEVELAND – Justin A. Christian, the Lorain man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a girl in Cleveland and attempting to take a girl from her Furnace Street home in February, pleaded not guilty to the charges Thursday.

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Deena Calabrese set his bond at $3 million. Christian’s attorney Thomas Shaughnessy entered the not guilty plea on his behalf during the arraignment. The case was then referred to Judge Nancy Margaret Russo.

A pretrial date has not been set.

Christian was taken into custody Friday in Elyria and transferred to police in Cleveland, where the more serious allegations against him were said to have occurred.

Christian, 29, was indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury Monday on three counts of rape, eight counts of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated burglary and a single count of tampering with evidence. The charges against Christian include sexual motivation and sexually violent predator specifications that could add years to any prison sentence he receives if he’s convicted.

....

Police and FBI investigators were able to link the two incidents using DNA taken from a stepladder in Elyria with DNA recovered from the Cleveland crime.

The DNA wasn’t a match for anything in the state database, and Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine authorized the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to conduct the first familial DNA search in the agency’s history.

That testing led to a link to a relative who was in the system and from there additional testing led police and FBI agents to Christian. Authorities say Christian’s DNA was matched to the ladder and DNA found on the girl.

Lorain police Capt. Roger Watkins said that Christian is a "person of interest" in three attempted abductions near Lorain schools and is a suspect in two other similar incidents on the city's east side.

Christian is being held at the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center on $3 million bond. Because he is accused of rape, he was ordered to take an HIV test.

Christian is scheduled for a pretrial before Common Pleas Judge Nancy Margaret Russo at noon Dec. 13, according to court documents

CLEVELAND >> A Cleveland-area man was sentenced Thursday to 35 years in prison for breaking into two homes last year and kidnapping and raping a young girl and trying to abduct another girl.

Justin Christian, 30, pleaded guilty to charges including rape, kidnapping and burglary. He declined to say anything before a judge issued a sentence that carries no chance of parole.

Prosecutors said Christian carefully planned the abduction attempts and scouted the homes. They said he went into one home and unlocked several doors and windows the day before he tried to grab a 10-year-old.

That girl fought off the attempted abduction in February 2016 when Christian climbed into her bedroom window in Elyria and tried to pull her outside, authorities said.

He kidnapped a 6-year-old Cleveland girl while she was sleeping at home and held her for about 17 hours at another home before dropping her off at an intersection, police said.

He was seen on surveillance video walking near the Cleveland girl's home several times in the days before he broke into the home and kidnapped her, the FBI said.

Investigators found DNA on a ladder used in the second abduction attempt and were able to make a familial match and link Christian to both cases, prosecutors said.

It was the first time the process had been used in Ohio.

Investigators matched DNA from the abduction to the same gene pool of Christian's deceased brother, said Matthew Meyer, an assistant prosecutor in Cuyahoga County.

Christian's attorney didn't return a message seeking comment.

FWIW this is standard procedure in Ohio. Every rapist gets an HIV test done. Does not mean they suspect he has it, so that might be a bit of a comfort on top of everything else.

No I meant just the possibility of that even being an issue for a 6 year old girl..... it's just heart wrenching.

It definitely is heart wrenching.

In a speach given by her mother/grandmother they said the little girl was given strong HIV meds, I'm hoping it was precautionary.

That just made my heart skip a beat. I can't imagine strong hiv drugs in a 6 year old as a prwcaution. Most cough medicine is not even approved for 6 year olds.

In court on Thursday, the families of both girls addressed Christian how he’d traumatized their families.
“It’s a reminder there are monsters in this world, and no one is safe even in your own home,” the mother of the 6-year-old said in court. “Yes, I have agreed to a plea deal, not so that I can help you, but for my three daughters, so that they don’t have to come in to look in the devil’s eyes.”

“This is something that happens in the movies, not in real life,” added the grandmother of the 10-year-old victim. “It is a parent’s worst nightmare.”
