Media coverage:
A man vanished after leaving for his job; he hasn’t been seen in a week

Rough Timeline:
NOTE: Most sources say Justin has been missing since the 29th, however he was doing DoorDash deliveries the morning of Jan 30, 2024. His last reported DoorDash was a delivery from Tim Horton's around 8AM on January 30th. He texted his girlfriend approximately 4:30PM that afternoon. He was seen at a local Sunoco gas station and with several suspects he would not normally hang out with around 5PM and was never heard from or seen after that. His phone was turned off around this time as well. There is video footage showing two woman later using the vehicle without Justin in it. Justin was driving an AVIS rental car (a gray Nissan Rogue, Franklin County, Ohio plate number JNV5847) and it was found wrecked near Wittenberg University at approximately 10:30PM on the 30th. Camera footage indicated he was not the driver at the time of the accident. His shoes were later reportedly sold by one of the suspects.

There is a Facebook group dedicated to searching for him however it currently appears to be disorganized with an over-reliance on information from psychics.

Smith’s family and friends held a rally Thursday outside of the police station to continue raising awareness about his disappearance. About 25 people showed up with signs and marched.

“We have discussed this (the rally) with the family. They’ve been gracious to tell us exactly what they’re looking for in this, but the biggest thing that they want is awareness. They just want this case to continue. If we keep the awareness going on, tips will continue to come in and we will exhaust those tips,” Byron (police sgt,) said.

They also said rewards up to $6,700 are offered in the case.

Byron said Springfield police continue to receive tips.

“We get them around the clock, and they’re forwarded to the investigations and to the officers that are on the street. Every tip we get is exhausted as far as we can take it,” he said.

Byron said there are pieces in the case they cannot talk about, which he said they’ve explained to the family.

The above link has been updated with additional details:
“We received a tip on Friday afternoon here in the city that someone had found human remains at an address in the 800 block of South Center St. Upon investigation, we located those remains (and) they were identified as Mr. Smith,” said James Byron, sergeant for investigations at the Springfield Police Division.

A 911 caller reported they were told someone saw Smith’s body in a vehicle that was in the back of a house.

“I got information on someone seeing a dead body in a vehicle at a house that was abandoned on South Center Street,” the 911 caller told dispatchers."
