Police in Cincinnati, Ohio, are determined to find out what went wrong in the case of a 16-year-old boy who died after being crushed by a minivan seat despite desperately calling 911 for help twice.

According to audio recordings, Plush called 911 at least twice Tuesday afternoon while he was trapped in the 2002 Honda Odyssey minivan outside Seven Hills School. The third-row seat flipped and had him pinned inside.

“I’m going to die here,” the sophomore told the dispatcher during his first 911 call, which was placed shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday. “I probably don’t have much time left. Tell my mom I love her if I die.”

Very tragic. Police didn't seem to have put much effort into finding him. It doesn't sound like anybody was going to see him just by driving by the van, you'd have to really look since he was trapped under the seat.

"They also talked about whether the whole thing might be a prank. Around the same time Plush was calling 911, the deputy had run into a woman at the school who was getting in his way. He wondered if that woman was up to something – especially since the first officers who looked for the van didn’t find anything awry."

my God this is tragic. I can not imagine the weight of the guilt surrounding the personnel that mishandled the detailed information, or the officers that failed to locate him....my heart is so heavy for his dad finding him in that state and then later his mom having to hear the call...as a mother myself I can not imagine..t&p for them all.

It appears from reports that he was trying and using Siri to call 911 as the phone was not within his reach. That is probably why he kept telling the operator he could not hear her talking.

This poor family, and what I'm reading in reports from his childhood and issues they had with the hospital that missed a Diagnosis years ago and they sued for... so tragic.

MSM reporting now also on the 911 dispatchers Facebook post where she was complaining just the previous Friday about her job and the hours excetera.

Not looking good for the city.

There are other mainstream reports about the prosecutor now getting involved in an investigation in addition to the Sheriff's Department investigation and the Police Department investigation.

I have the same car and have reached over the backseat so many times. What a freak accident (wonder if this has happen before) with the Honda.

The real tragedy is the 911 operation IMO. I thought they were trained on 1 sided conversation for help. [emoji35]

There were other recalls about the seats not locking in place but it wasn't supposed to affect this van.
However, we also know that they only recall what they are forced to.

I have a Tahoe with a 3rd row and have had 2 minivans before.
Whenever that third row is taken out I have to make very sure it's latched back in. It can be tricky.
I'm not a teenager though, so I go around and open the back instead of climbing over all the rows.
I also leave the 3rd row folded down if nobody is riding in it for cargo space.

I still wonder how close (distance wise) his family was. I would be worried 911 wouldn't believe me and I'd call my family to come over. Unless they were not close of course.

I read about this on the DM.
Having become a bit "hard-shelled" after so many years, this is one of the few stories to have brought actual tears to my eyes. Too difficult to even imagine the suffering of Kyle, and his family.
And his Mom -- to know her son's last thoughts and words was that he loved her -- so wonderful, but also excruciatingly painful at the same time. Just heartbreaking.
RIP Dear Kyle :rose:
He seemed like a really good kid; few and far between these days.

Here is a link showing how he got trapped, for those like me who couldn't visualize it. I am so heartbroken over this tragedy, recalling how many times I've reached over the third row seat we used to have in our SUV. Never thought twice about it.

You want to keep your kids safe, but how in the world can you protect them or forewarn them of freak things like this happening if you've never heard of it happening yourself?

"We are so lucky God chose us to be Kyle's parents. Kyle and the rest of our family had a very special bond. Although I am shielding myself from the news because I am not ready to hear all the details surrounding his final moments before he passed on to heaven, our family does seek to understand what happened and honor Kyle's memory in a way that promotes positive changes in others lives.

Kyle always had a smile on his face. He was a sweet and loving person. Kyle lived life to the fullest each and every day. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was extremely loyal and honest. We want families to spend more time together doing things they love, to live each day to the fullest, be kind to others, smile and laugh more.

I do know there are people grieving around the world for Kyle. God gives us what we need during times of sadness and he knows we need the whole world praying and supporting us because that is how deeply we feel his loss. Thank you for all of your shared prayers, silent prayers, memories and hugs. We need all of them.

Kyle's vehicle was parked in the parking lot in a straight line to the tennis courts. He became trapped while reaching for his tennis equipment.

Typically, Kyle never went straight home from school due to either tennis practice or matches. I don't understand why a parent did not attend his tennis matches but only because I never missed one of my daughter's and she played regional competitive tennis for four years of high school, in the summers between each grade level and four more years in college.

A tennis buddy phoned his parents to inform them that Kyle didn't show up to play the match. That is when the parents became alarmed. I believe that was around eight o'clock. Kyle was in his vehicle for almost 5 hours when discovered. I can only imagine.

I am overwhelmed with emotion over Kyle's heartbreaking preventable death. There is no understanding found in why the dispatch did not speak to him during the 2nd call he made. Nor do is there understanding why the exact model and color of his vehicle was not offered to police who were at Seven Springs School searching for his vehicle.

No way should the dispatcher be reinstated. However, it is a political cya move on the part of the city to show support for their emergency policies and employees' training.

As a parent, sadly, the lesson learned may be to always know where your children are.
