BBM. I had not yet mapped the distance between crime scenes. That's really close!

Yikes, what is it with Ohio and serial killers? Wonder if this will warrant its own SK thread..

I just discussed that question with a family member on the phone an hour ago. I wouldn't be surprised if statistically we are near the top of the list. Sad.

I always thought it was California or Washington, but according to this list Alaska is in first place. Who knew?

The States With The Most Serial Murder

Top 10:
Oklahoma, Utah, Texas, Louisiana, Oregon, Washington, California, Florida, Nevada, Alaska.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), serial killers tend to operate in defined geographical areas. Based on the Serial Killer Database, produced through a partnership of Radford University and the Florida Gulf Coast University, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the states with the highest numbers of documented victims of serial killers since 1900, adjusted for population.

While the 51 total serial killings in Alaska is not an especially high number compared with the rest of the country, adjusted for historical population levels, the state leads the nation with the most serial killings.

(What is it about Ohio and SK's?)

There's a high percentage of adults with severe mental illness in Ohio. The 5th highest in the nation. We have poor public assistance for those individuals (in fact, most are in prison ; 10x as many mentally ill people are in prison vs a psychiatric program).

Combined with a high rate of drug use (2nd in drug related deaths in the country - heroin is epidemic here), 15.8% poverty rate and horrible weather (yes this plays a huge role).

Though we don't rank in the top 10 states for serial killers (we're #35) . So I guess that's good?

So wait. Now it is Stacy??

Yes. She was one of the deceased bodies in the house. The girl who called 911 was someone who wasn't even reported missing. I haven't seen any other names released yet.

I wonder if the water plays a part in it. Seriously. I've read where fluoride can effect the development in the brain and can contribute to certain mental issues. Not even getting into the physical problems. I wonder if there is literally something in the water that could be even more harmful.

WS has me coming up with theories for everything now.

"New information" in Elizabeth's case:
Now, investigators are keeping the missing person's case of Elizabeth Griffith sealed based on what they call new information.

Griffith was last seen at the Walmart last month.

The second victim in the home has yet to be identified and the Cuyahoga County coroner assists with the autopsies.

I've never heard of a missing person case being "sealed". I suspect police think she is the other victim in the house?

*I posted above on Elizabeth's thread too*

Two things I noted from this page

1. He moves around the area between Ashland and Columbus, Ohio. I really hope police are checking into if he's ever spent time in Chillcothe. AND / OR if any of these missing/deceased women know any of the others that went missing there. Chillcothe is a 2 hour straight shot down I71 and there are six unresolved missing women / murder cases there.

2. There seems to be a VERY disproportionate number of young and beautiful long haired women on his friends list.

I hope this isn't a repeat.

Shawn M. Grate's criminal background includes violent domestic incident with woman

Grate's girlfriend at the time told police that they had been arguing on and off all day on May 8, 2010 when Grate flipped her over the foot of the bed and hit her in the face twice. Grate went on to grab her by the throat and sit on her, according to reports. Police said Grate allowed her to get up to wash her face, but then grabbed her again by the throat and told her not to leave the bathroom or he would "beat her face in." That's when police arrived and arrested Grate.

That's either the second or third woman that claims she escaped being his victim! There was an account earlier in this thread of someone he "tried to date" and offered pills to. And I saw another interview on the news of a woman who said she went in the house thinking he was a "nice guy" but ran out of there as soon as he tried to give her pills and tried to have sex with her. I'm not sure if the interviewed woman is the same as the printed version story or not. Apparently he was trying to entice every woman he met into this house. Unbelievable.

Can someone tell me what we are allowed to post from family found in facebook comments? It's been awhile since I've posted and I'm not up on the current rules regarding it. I couldn't find a clear answer.
