The things found in the purse are odd. In my view they are things one would have for camping in the woods. Swiss Army knife, scissors, lighter. Maybe a smoker and carried the others for protection?

The coroner did say she had a full set of dentures. Eye glasses found near too - might or might not have belonged to her.

Do dentures come with a stamped serial? If not, they need to adopt that process.

In the photos (http://www.wlwt.com/news/33355768, second frame) the items don't look that odd. It's just a cheap Bic-type lighter, a small knife like the one my mother carries, and the scissors look like they could be barber/beautician's scissors. I agree she's likely a smoker and I'd hazard that she might be a barber or beautician.

It looks like Melanie may have been found deceased. Her husband was arrested after dismembered remains were found and believed to be those belonging to Melanie. I agree it looked like a strong match.

I wonder if it could be Debra Lucas. I think the recon has many similarities. Missing since September 2010 from Louisville KY, which is only a 2 hr drive away. I wonder if she wore dentures. I couldn't find any info regarding this.

I think Debra's photo's at Charley Project resemble those of people who have had their teeth removed. I would not be surprised to learn she wears dentures.

There have been about a dozen inquires from individuals and police agencies hopeful to close open cases of missing persons. But so far, the woman remains Jane Doe.

This is odd. The article says, "“Jane Doe’s” profile along with photos of her belongings, has been entered into NamUs, which is a national resource center for missing persons and unidentified decedent records. It is a free online system that can be searched by medical examiners, coroners, law enforcement officials and the general public. Additionally, testing through national data bases gave been done with no match."

But I can't find her in Namus. The only case from Butler County is a man found in July of 2011. The only UID from March of 2015 was a man found in Philadelphia.

She seems to be similar to the reconstruction and the fact that she traveled Europe may explain the unusual dentures. She also wore glasses.

I've emailed NamUs about a possible match. Jennifer Casper Ross had extensive dental work done. She went missing from Reno Nevada in 2005, had some pretty bad mental health issues going on and may have traveled. May explain the jaw atrophy as well.

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - She’s a mother with shoulder length brown hair, but her name, where she's from and how she died is a Butler County mystery.

Now, a group of forensic genealogists are hoping to crack the case, similar to how the suspected “Golden State Killer” was identified.

"Obviously we don't know who she is. She has a life history, a story. She has pregnancy scars children in her life,” said Dr. Murray.

Other clues were scattered in the woods: Expensive shoes, an inexpensive blouse. Glasses and a fanny pack with chapstick and a lighter from a bull riding event.

A little unconventional is the DNA Doe Project. It’s a nonprofit group of genealogists who help identify the unidentified dead. The cofounders are Colleen Fitzpatrick and Margaret Press.

They cracked the case of so called “buckskin girl” who was murdered and dumped on the side of the road in Miami County, Ohio in 1981. She was Marcia King of Arkansas.

Colleen Fitzpatrick has worked on high profile cases, she was on the team that identified the unknown child on the Titanic.

She has a family DNA sample in her freezer for Amelia Earhart's navigator if his remains are ever found.

Now, Fitzpatrick and a team of forensic genealogists will try to identify Butler County's “Jane Doe”.

But I wonder why her. Why not like Shot gun Jane Doe or Walker County Jane Doe or Princess Doe.

Obviously I hope they all get tested with this technology eventually but I figured funding would be an issue in a case like this. Unless the state is paying for it. I don’t know.

I’m just shocked is all I guess.

I think it's only a matter of time now. Many of our cases will be solved soon, I think. The more successes they have, the more departments that will try to duplicate. Patience

Because Dr. Elizabeth Murray is the case manager for Butler County Jane Doe and was also the case manager for Buckskin Girl. Dr. Murray stepped up, took a chance on them, and gave them on of their very first cases so DDP promised her they would work on two of her other cases. I believe Dr. Murray is also trying to help DDP try to get grant funding for the future. And Butler County Jane Doe's agency is funding this so DDP did not need help from the public here.

If the agency is willing to fund a Doe case then the popularity of a case doesn't matter because it doesn't need to be publicly funded. And by 'agency' I mean law enforcement agency where the Jane or John Doe is found; the 'state' does not pay for this.

There are a whole bunch of factors that go into the cases DDP takes on: is there available DNA and is it good enough? Is the agency interested in working with DDP? Are they willing to fund the testing or is the Jane/John Doe well known enough to be a successful Doe Fund Me case?
