A shooting on a street in Akron, Ohio, killed one man and wounded 26 other people early Sunday morning, according to reports by local news outlets.

The shooting reportedly happened after midnight near Kelly Avenue and 8th Avenue.

A witness at the scene told News 5 there were hundreds of people at the party enjoying themselves before shots were fired.

"Everyone was wearing white T-shirts; there were women on top of vehicles dancing. It looked like a scene from a spring break movie. It looked like everyone was having a good time. On our way back it was a completely different scene," the witness said.

Officers dispatched to the scene near Kelly Street and 8th Avenue found dozens of bullet casings and a gun, according to local media reports.

In a statement to the BBC, the force said at least 25 people had been shot, one of whom had been killed.

It also confirmed many of the victims' injuries were non-life-threatening, but added that some were in a "more serious condition".

Neighbors told 19 News the shootings took place at a very large birthday party.

One firearm and several dozen casings have been recovered from the scene, said police.

Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and Akron Police Chief Brian Harding released the following statement:
