Sorry to quote myself but just had a thought.
The chickens are missing, right? Let's say he was harmed (or worse), so the truck is driven somewhere and left, but -- the chickens. Whoever did this cares about those chickens in some way - monetarily or otherwise.
Who would care about the chickens, really? Just trying to think outside the box here: the person who had just sold them to him is one guess. Were they also the last person reported to see him?
ETA: I don't think he disappeared over the chickens - but I think the chickens being taken is obviously important here. MOO
I dont know but I did wonder if the truck was found before it sat for days and the chickens were placed back it in to make it look as if the lived in the truck for an extended amount of time.
I think the chickens are important too.
