Bloggers tracking the case at WebSleuths.com also are discounting the possibility of a random killing. “I understand David was a ‘big’ kid, 6 foot something. Young and fit,” wrote one. “If we go on the premise that this was a random thrill kill, why pick a big strapping man?”
 
that was my quote about "why david" and I still don't think it was random. Makes my heart sick for his family and the residents of Ashland that this is still lingering.
 
Does Ashland have any Juggalos in the area? Just read an article about two Juggalos who were convicted of murder using knives and a hatchet.

"The two men charged in the February 2009 fatal stabbing of an East Stroudsburg man in Price Township have been convicted of first-degree murder.

A Monroe County jury deliberated for about two hours before returning its verdict against Shawn Freemore, 21, and Ian Seagraves, 19, both of Cresco.

During the trial, which began last week, the prosecution said evidence and statements gathered show Freemore and Seagraves committed first-degree murder, which involves pre-meditation, by planning to lure Michael Goucher, 21, to a remote location, scare him and kill him to “get off on dying fear.”

Both defendants call themselves Juggalos, a subculture with some members carrying butcher knives and meat cleavers and listening to violent "horror-core" rock/rap songs."
 
Anybody hear if the LE looked into the incident in K Falls two days prior to the murder here in Ashland? These 3 men broke into a house (from what I've read, there was no connection between assailants and victim) beat him senseless, cut off fingers and fled from interruption. 2 were outstanding the day of David's murder, 1 was arrested the next evening and the final assailant was apprehended recently. A weapon they recovered was a sword/sharp object.... has always seemed fishy to me.

This was on the local news last night. Nothing new really, but a sense of what's going on right now with the investigation.

There's a shot in there of a table at the Police Dept. with lots of odds and ends on it. Those things were at the little memorial/shrine that has developed at the site of the murder. A few days ago a policeman was removing some of those items from the memorial and putting them in a paper bag. I didn't know why at the time, but it was interesting to see them sitting on the table in the news video segment.

What about this crazy kid in Roseburg, 1.25 hrs away from Ashland? I wonder if there is any kind of psychosis connection between the two?

He had two machetes in his car! Now how many people do we know with machetes? I do hope LE is going to see if this fellow who sacrifices goats has an alibi for the time David Grubbs was murdered!

As recently as Dec 27, 2011 two transients were arrested in Salem, OR. one for murder and the other for burglary and parole violation. The two incidents were not related.

Most of the important pieces of evidence that Ashland police sent off to be analyzed by forensic experts for the David Grubbs murder investigation have been returned to local detectives, but with limited avail toward solving the crime, police said.

Evidence from three separate laboratories will continue trickling back to the Ashland Police Department for the next six to eight months, but most of it has little potential for helping detectives find a suspect in the Nov. 19 murder case, police Chief Terry Holderness said.

"We've gotten back some evidence that helped us a little bit in trying to figure out exactly what happened," Holderness said. "Most of the evidence, though, is something we will use to build a case against and prosecute a suspect, not identify a suspect."

Fliers were posted all around Walker Elementary School yesterday by LE, looking for tips. I've heard that parents and staff weren't pleased as many very young children read the fliers. One has to to live in Ashland to fully understand how we attempt to protect children from "scary stuff". I have mixed feelings. I know several of my young grandchildren saw the fliers and had hard questions. But I also live blocks from the crime and want this brutal murder solved.

Just a way out there thought. Has anyone considered the possibility of any tie-in to the murder of Heather Thompson in Roseburg (100 miles north) in August 2010? We have a long thread here:

Heather's killer has never been identified. We know that Heather had quite an internet presence also.
 
Hmmm. Just throwing this on the table. I was just checking on a missing persons case from 2010 for a poster in our Cold Cases forum. I recalled a man disappearing from Ashland and did some checking in our local news archive. I have no idea if this man was located but the address from where he went missing alarmed me more than a little. Very very close to where David was murdered. Very.

I have been following everything about Davis Grubbs murder. Troy was found a little way's from him, but that doesn't really mean anything.

The Mail Tribune out of Medford OR said today that the reward is up past $10,000 for information.
 
I am not sure (I haven't kept on top of this case) but I don't think LE ever came out and said what the weapon was. I know it was something very sharp and people guessed based on injuries to the victim that it was either a sword or machete- but it could be a garden tool, axe, whatever. There are almost no new info on this case that I know about. I really feel for his family and friends.

Woman reports attack by stranger in south Ashland
February 9, 2012

"An unidentified man sneaked up behind a woman sitting on a bench in south Ashland late Wednesday and dragged her into the bushes where he tried to sexually assault her, police said. The woman, who asked not to be identified, was able to struggle free from the man, who was described as white with a slightly dark complexion and in his mid-20s. The man pulled her into a thicket of bushes behind the bench and tried to remove the woman's clothes...."

"....The assault occurred at about 10:15 p.m. in the area where Clover Lane and Ashland Street intersect, about 100 yards east of exit 14 on Interstate 5, O'Meara said. After the short struggle, the man ran through the property where the Best Western Windsor Inn sits and toward Sutton Place, a street behind the inn. The woman described the man as about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, with a heavy build, dark eyes, and a goatee, police said. The suspect was wearing a black hoodie, white T-shirt and a beanie hat with an emblem on it, and possibly a necklace during the attack...."

Wait. This is Ashland. This is NOT supposed to happen here...especially a block from my house....and where my teen daughter and my grandchildren walk to school and the park. YIKES, I walk my little dog around that corner everyday around dusk.

FWIW, California Street is where Michael lived.

Another attempted sexual assault reported in Ashland
February 10, 2012

"Ashland police are investigating another report of an attempted sexual assault by strangers. This morning a woman came to police and said that two men grabbed her and tried to remove her clothing as she jogged past them at about 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31 on the sidewalk near the intersection of Iowa and California Streets...."

and

"....two men accosted an Ashland woman, who asked not to be identified, on Jan. 31. They grabbed her and tried to take off her clothes, then ran off in an unknown direction after a person nearby recognized the woman struggling, and began yelling at the men, Ashland police Detective Sgt. Tighe O'Meara said. The two suspects were described by the victim as white men, about 6 feet tall, possibly in their mid-20's..."
