DENNIS DAY, Former Mouseketeer, Murdered 17 July 2018

Dennis Day
BIRTH 12 July 1942
Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada, USA
DEATH 17 July 2018 (aged 76)
Phoenix, Jackson County, Oregon, USA

An original Mouseketeer. Dennis appeared on Disney's "The Mickey Mouse Club" during its first two seasons from 1955 through 1957, as well as a special Disney episode. He was one of the first cast members hired for the show, having auditioned with his sister in a dance routine, and he was placed on the show's prestigious Red Team.

He appeared in reunion specials in 1968 and 1980.

After pairing up with his partner, Ernest Caswell in about 1974, Dennis relocated to Oregon. There, he worked for the local Living History Centre, performed in Renaissance fairs and, with Ernest, developed a successful line of wine jams and jellies.

In July of 2018 Dennis was reported missing by Ernest, who was suffering from dementia. Police had no clues, although an Oregon Live report confirmed that Dennis had recently called the police because his live-in handyman, Daniel Burda, had become violent.

Police advised Dennis to evict Burda; while questioning the handyman later, they also noticed "obvious battle wounds" on his hands and arms but did nothing. And when police were called again because of a "horrific smell" coming from Dennis' home, they searched the house and even inadvertently walked over the man's body under a pile of clothes without finding him.

Another nine months would go by before Dennis was finally found and Burda admitted to killing the former Mouseketeer. Two women, Wanda Garcia and Lori Declusin, also were eventually arrested after being found with Dennis Day's car and jewelry.

@PayrollNerd - just wondering if Garcia might have a court date - or is she still out there?

TIA! :)

Thank you @Niner and @PayrollNerd for picking up the slack with court dates and such. I’m afraid I’ve been MIA and didn’t see your message @Niner. Now I’m recovering from COVID-19, and I’m a bit useless at the time being. So carry on and thank you! This is such a disturbing case. :(

Glad to hear you are recovering! :) And no problem in not being able to help. I used to be able to access Oregon court sites, but "something" changed awhile back - and now I have to bother PayrollNerd to help me! ;)

Thank goodness for @PayrollNerd being so willing! You’ve been so great about keeping up on so many court cases @Niner. Thank you both!
