Burda was a handyman who did work around the house Day lived in with husband Henry “Ernie” Caswell. Burda at one point stayed at the house in exchange for work for the couple, according to the Phoenix Police Department. But Day eventually told a friend that Burda had hurt him. Day and the friend planned to report the incident to police, but Day disappeared shortly after.

“Oregon court records show he has criminal convictions for sodomy, robbery, and assault going back a decade. He started using methamphetamine in 2017, according to Phoenix police and court records.

Burda told police in January 2018 that a girlfriend was “possessed by spirits” after they arrested him on suspicion of strangling her, a probable cause affidavit alleges.”

Mouseketeer homicide case to remain in Jackson County


The man accused of killing Dennis W. Day, a one-time child actor who was an original member of the Mickey Mouse Club, will be tried in Jackson County a judge ruled.

Daniel James Burda, 37, will face trial for the killing of Day in Jackson County Circuit Court, according to a court order filed Tuesday by Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Lorenzo Mejia, who denied a motion filed by Burda’s lawyers last month that sought to move the case out of the area for fear that extensive local media coverage about the case threatened Burda’s right to a fair and impartial jury.

At an initial court appearance in July, Burda asked whether he could be transferred to the Jackson County Community Justice Work Center if he were to accept a plea bargain in the homicide case.

Court records show that Burda has a pretrial conference set for Sept. 16. No trial date has been set in Burda’s case.

Man charged in Mouseketeer's death found unfit to stand trial


The man charged in the mistreatment and homicide of a former child actor who lived in Southern Oregon has been found mentally unfit to stand trial.

Daniel James Burda, 37, who has pending charges accusing him of killing founding Mickey Mouse Club cast member Dennis Day and hiding the body in Day’s Phoenix home, will be committed to the Oregon State Hospital in Salem, according to an order filed Monday by Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Lisa Greif.

Burda will be held for a maximum commitment of three years. Hospital staff will evaluate Burda within 60 days of his arrival in Salem, and Greif’s orders calls for a status report within 90 days, requires progress reports every 180 days and orders the hospital to notify the court if Burda no longer needs a hospital level of care so he can be moved back into Jackson County Jail custody.

Burda’s next court appearance is scheduled Nov. 18, according to the court filing.

Court records show Declusin has a warrant for her arrest after she failed to appear in court Monday. Garcia’s, who according to court records has numerous aliases, next court appearance is set for Nov. 4.
