He's a bit taller than the UID, though.

The UID is 5'9. Muni was 6'1. I've heard of one case where the height was off by five or six inches before, but it's not common.

It'd be nice to know if Christopher owned this watch prior to him going missing. I keep trying to imagine him with a beard. I don't know about the lips and noses, though.

Missing in the Great Smoky Mountains: Five people who were never found
Family members reported Cessna, 45, of Cary, N.C., missing April 27, 2011. Park officials later discovered his 2009 Audi at the Newfound Gap parking area. Relatives reported Cessna had been depressed, that he might be suicidal and that a gun he owned couldn't be found.

Seaside police say bike may have belonged to unidentified drowning victim
Updated Jan 10, 2019; Posted Oct 18, 2011
On the day the body was found, detectives noted a red bike chained to a light pole about a half a mile away. Police last week seized the bike, a red men's 26-inch Fuji Cadenza. It has a Batoin key pad lock with a "Public Storage" company sticker. Another sticker on the down tube near the bottom bracket is from La Mesa Cyclery in La Mesa, Calif.

I don’t see too much resemblance in Christopher. I think the UID’s lips are much fuller. But then again, that could just be swelling.

I found Steven who went missing a couple of weeks prior to the UID being discovered. He’s a little older than the UID is suspected of being (57), and his eyes are listed as brown, but his other stats match up.

“Matts was last seen at Yreka High School in Yreka, California on September 20, 2011. He was heard from the next day, when he called his employer. This was the last sign of him. His credit card was last used in Halsey, Oregon, as Matts was traveling north on Interstate 5. Matts was driving a gold 2001 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck with the California license plate number 6T15009; a photo of a similar truck is posted with this case summary. It has since been recovered. His case remains unsolved.”

This photo comes up when I google his name, but when I click the link, I can’t find it... It’s definitely him though. Steven Matts – Yreka, CA – Happy Birthday

I also found this interesting article about Steven. UPDATED: Teacher 'missing at will'

I can’t picture him with a beard, and without the bushy eyebrows, so it’s hard to see a resemblance. But a lot adds up. I wonder where they recovered his vehicle from? Maybe a suicide?

Bumping for this UID. I wish genetic genealogy could be used to help solve this.

This town is small enough where LE pretty much knows everyone. They even know who the part time residents are from other cities such as Portland. If he was a tourist, hotels and such should have recognized him. I would think his possessions would be left behind somewhere. He doesn't seem to be a transient type. Weird that he had no ID on him though. No report of an abandoned car. He could have taken the bus (Greyhound?) from Portland. FWIW, I believe he was on the rocks in an area called The Cove further SW of where he was found and a sneaker wave got him.
They get THOUSANDS of tourists in Seaside, conventioneers, holiday-ers, kids playing arcade games. It used to be quite seedy. People with more money stay at nearby Cannon Beach, which is more upmarket, has good cafés, etc.

He could have been camping, sleeping in the woods (National Forest) or beach, almost anything. So, a record of him would not be expected anywhere in that area unless he was missing from friends and family.

I believe there was a bike found chained to a pole a half mile away from where the body was found. Judging from the clothing (danner boots, Columbia jacket...I think they manufacture the jackets near seaside) he was dressed well. No scars, marks, or tattoos... Fairly good dental hygiene.... Probably not a transient. Maybe someone visiting the area? Or someone possibly fishing that went overboard? Seems they should have been reported missing by now, or a boat found floating empty. Just my thoughts.
The Danner boots and Columbia jacket likely wouldn't have belonged to someone who didn't have a good income. Unlikely appropriate clothing on a fishing vessel. However, don't rule out transient, in the sense he might have been camping somewhere nearby. Loads of places to camp.
Columbia Sportswear is headquartered near Portland. Seaside is a direct shot from Portland, but Columbia is sold all over the country. Danner is out of Portland, and used to be kinda regional (popular in Oregon, and people used to get them made custom). I don't think they were sold much on the East Coast, although they are common now.

Later: the quality of Danner boots and Columbia jacket would go along with the income of a teacher. They are quality outdoor recreation brands.

Seaside Police are still asking for anyone who may aid in identifying the victim to contact Seaside Police at 503- 738-6311 or through the Tip Line at 503-738-0222

The deceased is described as a white male adult in his late 40s, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, and weighing 238 pounds. He has short dark hair with a receding hair line, hazel eyes, and a salt and pepper stubble beard & mustache.

He was wearing black jeans, black tee shirt, black zip up Columbia windbreaker and tan colored Danner Boots. He was also wearing a black Timex watch with green face. There were no marks or tattoos on the body.

The UID has a really high forehead. The timeline would work, though, and maybe the build. I wish we knew exactly where the body was found. He couldn't have drowned that far away if he died in the last 12 hours.
I wish LE had said where Matts's truck was recovered. I wonder if Matts owned a Fuji bike? A watch like that? Those should have been pretty identifiable.

Why would Matts be "endangered missing"? I find that odd... Suicidal?

I have to correct something I said above. NAMUS says the UID's "body had been on the beach less than 12 hours". In other words, he could have died substantially before then. Probably, no one walking by had seen his body on the beach the day before.

I misinterpreted to mean "he died within 12 hours of being found."

He looks like Brian Jones.... But @Caring1 , you say he's excluded?

Well, everything but the face would exclude him, so I guess that answers my question. They even know where his body is. Why would this count as a missing person?

Right. The missing persons listed above have been ruled out as being the Seaside unidentified male.

Now I'm intrigued. I never work UID cases...
Duuude welcome! You do awesome work over on the missing threads. There are a good number of really interesting cases that involve people found in the wilderness found with miscellaneous gear. Your input would be really valuable!
