Not seeing a Doe thread for Norman. Someone else might have better luck. I searched for his NamUs number and Ventura County 1997. Don't know if he had a California UD number, I'm not finding one on Google, so he may just not have a thread here, despite being a 20+ y/o case.

Was just reading the breaking news article about Mr. Ott. Job well done. I feel bad for his daughter but glad she finally knows where her Dad was. Hope more answers to come.

“In 2023, the county coroner began reopening cold cases as part of a project aiming to identify unknown decedents through advances in forensic genealogy. John Doe #3's body was exhumed and the investigation reopened. With the help of Othram, a DNA testing lab in Texas, the man was identified as Craig William Ott of Sacramento.”

Thank you for sharing the thread!

In forensic genetic genealogy, only a small subset of consumer profiles are consented for forensic matching, meaning investigators see fewer close matches and mostly distant connections. Furthermore, forensic profiles can be imperfect or incomplete, leading to ambiguity in the analysis of matching profiles.

That’s where automatic clustering and shared matches come in. These tools aren’t just helpful—they’re essential. They sift through the noise, helping to surface key connections and exclude irrelevant matches, ensuring that even with imperfect data, we can efficiently resolve complex cases.

Check out the latest from the Othram research team. New tools that simplify and automate the analysis of genetic matches.

I somehow fell off the thread when it changed to #3. I'm still the biggest othram fan ever!! One of the greatest advancements of our time!
It's amazing! Almost every day I check in with WS and this thread has at least one more name, one more solved. It's so awesome to see this in my lifetime. Grateful for everyone @ Othram!!!

Really appreciate the support. There is no reason that we would not be able to collectively clear these backlogs in the next few years. We just need to prioritize it.
