Amber Brewington's son Noah King is four months old. He's also in a hospital suffering from seizures.

A nurse saw Brewington disconnecting the baby's feeding tube and trying to put salt in it. LE found a syringe, Morton's table salt and two bottles filled with saline soulution in the mother's backpack. Brewington said she was trying to speed up the boy's death.

The 21 year old Brewington is charged with attempted homocide among other charges.

ETA: I don't discount PPD as a defense. I'll wait for the evaluations before I start up the coals. It sounds like the girl had multiple mental issues.

I read that police are trying to determine if Noah was sick prior to the hospital incident. One telling sign is that the article states that when Noah first arrived to the hospital he had one of the highest levels of sodium in his body--even for an adult. I strongly suspect Munchhausen's Syndrome By Proxy, and that she made him sick from the start as a result of that bizarre disorder. This just sickens me inside.

Prayers for baby Noah.

The articles said that the doctors in TN would only say he was being treated. They transferred him to PGH with his father. The TN doctors would not talk at all, so it's hard to say.

I agree, MSbP could be a factor. Or PPD, or BPD. Quite a list. :(

Thanks for the links, Squaddie.

Grandpop says she'd die for those kids. Kids plural. So there's more children.

What is the world coming to, with all crimes committed against our children, some of them cannot even be protected by their own mothers, such a sad state of affairs.

I hope Noah suvives and goes to a family who will give him the unconditional love that all our children deserve.

Dug a little in Tennessee (Internetually of course, :) ) and found some more info:

Paula Baker, Brewington's next-door neighbor in Duck River, Tenn., recalled that Noah got sick a few weeks after he was born in March. He was taken to a local hospital suffering from dehydration and other related ailments.

"He was a healthy baby, a happy baby and then all of a sudden he got sick," Baker said.

The baby, Noah King, went to the hospital for a case of salmonella, was treated for dehydration and had seizures and a stroke. Brewington's brother said she had been up and down emotionally since the baby became sick.
Brewington's relatives said doctors told them the baby contracted salmonella before he was born.

Brewington told Pittsburgh investigators that her son became severely ill in May and later suffered possible brain damage. The Associated Press reported that police believe the boy's medical problems were caused entirely by his mother.

...

Jenkins said he knows Brewington didn't say that she was trying to speed up Noah's death, but he said she may have told detectives she was trying to help Noah get to heaven. He said Brewington would say whatever she could to get someone off her back.

Jenkins said that for Brewington, death and heaven are completely different.

"Speeding up his death is like, 'I'm trying to kill him.' Trying to help him get to heaven is like, 'I'm trying to help him,'" Jenkins said.

That guy (her grandfather) sounds like a complete moron.

There are other children involved:
Brewington has two children with him and a third child by another man, Stangrecki said.

So it does sound like MSbP, and there doesn't seem to be any question of the mother's guilt. Sounds like a case for Court-Ordered Sterilization to me.

The kid has already had a stroke. Now there is the possibility of brain damage. Doesn't look good for the little guy.

Prayers.

She's claiming post partum depression.

Don't they always claim that and people fall all over themselves to accept that reason and support the mother who is a cold blooded murderer.

There is NO EXCUSE for murdering your child.

This is such a sad story for that dear sweet baby. It would be interesting to know if she has done this before with her other kids. If not, why did she pick Noah to do this too? Is this syndrome something that comes on suddenly or what?

August 2010:

Amber Brewington, 23, of Duck River, Tenn., had injected her son with syringes of salt water.

The boy, now nearly 2 1/2, has had a stroke, which left him paralyzed on one side of his body. He has water on his brain, requiring a lifetime of shunts. He has epilepsy and cerebral palsy, is developmentally delayed, has autism and has no peripheral vision...

Ms. Brewington, who has been diagnosed with severe depression, borderline personality disorder and mild mental retardation, pleaded guilty but mentally ill to aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children....

Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Joseph K. Williams III sentenced her to five to 15 years in prison, where she is to receive mental health treatment.

Amber Brewington, 23, of Duck River, in Hickman County, will spend five to 15 years in a mental facility after pleading guilty to aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child in Allegheny County.
She entered the plea after prosecutors withdrew an attempted homicide charge against her....

During a mental competency hearing a few weeks following, a psychiatrist testified Brewington suffered from Munchausen, a syndrome in which she fakes or induces illness in order to generate sympathy.
The psychiatrist also said Brewington suffered from borderline personality disorder and suicidal thoughts.

January 2015:

Nearly six years later, Noah is alive and living with his adoptive parents.

"He is the sweetest, kindest little soul I've ever met in my life," Spiller said.

At just 6 years old, Noah has endured more abuse than most ever will. But his adoptive parents said it has happened again....

Spiller said a substitute teacher saw another teacher physically abuse Noah while at Oak Grove Elementary School in Marshall County.

The teacher reported the alleged abuse to the principal.

"He had fingerprints on his left wrist. Now this is six hours after the incident. He had fingernail gouges in his arm. He had fingerprints on the base of his neck and he had a bruise on the back of his back," Spiller said...

The couple has an attorney and now plan to sue the district and the teacher.

"Lawsuit is the only way you get the school district's attention and change their behavior," attorney Roland Mumford said.

Spiller said it's not about money, but rather making sure nothing else ever happens to Noah.

"He just doesn't deserve that. He's been through enough already," Spiller said. "I don't understand what else this child has got to go through."
