Why did she run out of the school? Was she upset? Did it take that long for someone to go after her? What does her family think?

Bumping for Deaveon. I would love to see more sleuths join the discussion: This case is so perplexing to me:

“Police look for missing 8-year-old girl”
POSTED 6:34 PM, MAY 18, 2018, BY SEAN NAYLOR, UPDATED AT 07:01PM, MAY 18, 2018

“DAUPHIN COUNTY — Harrisburg Police are looking for an 8-year-old girl who Melrose School staff say ran away from the school Friday morning.

DJ ran toward Derry Street around 9:21 a.m., according to police, who responded to the school about an hour later. School staff searched the area but were not able to find her, police add. Family and friends near the school were contacted and they verified that she was not there.” (BBM)

http://fox43.com/2018/05/18/police-look-for-missing-8-year-old-girl/

Since the article specifically states which direction she ran toward, it does appear that she was either captured on camera leaving the school property or there was a witness(es). If the latter, I wonder how reliable or trustworthy they are.

I am also wondering why the police were not called for an hour. That seems like such a long time in a situation like this. I don’t mean to suggest there is something nefarious happening here; perhaps the school staff did not realize Deaveon was missing at first.

I can’t believe she has been missing for almost a full day. Where could she have gone?

I will join the discussion, but I have little to offer but speculation since we have so few details. I hate to bring something like this up, but I feel like I must. Perhaps there is a lack of structure/discipline at the school, especially during transition periods, and she was able to slip away during one of these. And IMO, that a clever child could possibly get away during a crowded transition even if there is good order being maintained.
The larger question is why she would want to do such a thing. I don't think it would necessarily be something at the school that would make a little girl run away.

I'm very concerned for her. I hope she's recovered soon.

Thank you, Jo in Calif!!

I wonder how far the house was from the school, and if that area was searched.

I am not sute if "found safe" is the correct wording, seems there is more to the story!

Harrisburg couple is charged with the physical abuse of an 8-year-old who was reported missing Friday, according to Harrisburg Police.

Saturday morning at about 4:45 a.m., a caller notified police that the girl had been found behind her home. Police found the child and took her to a local hospital for a medical evaluation, which revealed substantial bruising and injuries to her, who disclosed that there had been physical abuse as well.

The victim’s 11-year-old brother also was suffering from substantial bruising, police say.
