Man charged with murder after 21-month-old child dies following Chester Co. assault

Officials in Chester County, Pennsylvania, said Enrique Lopez-Gomez, 30, has been arrested and charged with murder following the death of a 21-month-old child.

A 30-year-old West Grove man has been arrested and charged with murder following the death of a 21-month-old child in Kennett Township.

"Mr. Gomez-Lopez struck that child in the abdomen at least once, causing significant injuries to that child and did not get medical care for that child," he said.

Officials said that first responders were contacted at about 10:58 p.m. on Monday, to a home along the 600 block of Cope Road in Kennett Township, are were met with the child's mother who handed medical professionals the boy's body, wrapped in a blanket.

Enrique Lopez Gomez, 20, of West Grove, is charged with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and related offenses.

He is behind bars on $10 million cash bail.

When medics arrived the child's mother walked out with the toddler wrapped in a blanket. The child, Anilson Perez Gomez, did not have a pulse, investigators said.

Once in the ambulance, medics saw bruising on the child's body and called police.

An investigation revealed Gomez had hit the boy, causing his fatal injuries, the district attorney’s office said.

It’s believed the incident happened at a home in West Grove, and the boy was taken to another home in Kennett Township after falling ill, WCAU and WTXF reported, citing authorities.

There, Gomez reportedly performed a “Guatemalan healing ritual” and left, WTXF reported, citing court documents. The child’s uncle eventually called 911, documents obtained by the outlet said.

De Barrena-Sarobe told reporters that “hours lapsed before any kind of medical attention” was sought for the injured child, WCAU reported.
