In February, Ray Shetler Jr. was found not guilty on charges of first- and third-degree murder, terroristic threats and simple assault in the death of Officer Lloyd Reed.

However, he was found guilty on charges of theft and receiving stolen property. Today, he was sentenced to 11.5-23 months with credit for time served and five years’ probation. As a result, he will soon be released from prison.

A New Florence man acquitted of killing a police officer in 2015 will remain in jail as he awaits trial on charges that he assaulted a law enforcement official as police attempted to take him into custody on an outstanding warrant.

Westmoreland County Common Pleas Judge Megan Bilik-DeFazio on Monday rejected a defense request to lift the detainer that has held Ray Allen Shetler Jr. in custody.

“I am not confident with Mr. Shetler’s compliance with probation,” the judge said.

Shetler, 38, has been in jail since December 2021 after he was arrested for failing to appear in court for a probation violation hearing. Prosecutors said he violated terms of his release from jail after serving a short sentence for theft of a truck while fleeing from authorities following the fatal shooting of St. Clair Township police Officer Lloyd Reed.

GREENSBURG, Pa. – A New Florence man was sentenced to one to two years in prison for assaulting a deputy sheriff while resisting arrest in 2021.

Given that Ray Allen Shetler, 39, has already served 399 days in jail awaiting his trial and sentencing on the 2021 charges, a yet-to-be-scheduled revocation hearing may determine whether he will remain in prison.

His 2023 aggravated assault conviction stemmed from charges filed after he failed to appear for court on a probation violation. Prosecutors said he was found hiding in a Seward mobile home and became combative with arresting officers and sheriffs deputies who arrived to arrest him.
