I think persons of Asian descent age very well. I have some Korean residents in the nursing home I work at who are in their early 80's but look like they're 60. I'm wondering if the upper cutoff of UID's age should be higher than 30?

I would say that it might be this guy, who disappeared after his gang shot up a restaurant in San Francisco in 1977, but . . .

* The UID is too tall
* The UID is too young
* The UID has no tattoos (which is strange, if this puzzler is, as lots of us seem to think, gang related)
* It's likely there would have been a fingerprint match.

Still, Sai Ying Lee, missing for ~35 years, is someone for whom you might want to keep an eye out.

I was getting excited because I thought Mr. Lee might be an unidentified Asian male found on Sunrise Mountain near Las Vegas https://identifyus.org/en/cases/406 but when I went back to NamUs to compare the two, I realized that the UID was found in 1973 and not 1978, as I had been thinking.

I think there are only about 14 Asian males in NamUs who were reported missing up until this UID was found in the men's room (the earliest one being Raymond Kung in 1981). I don't think he was reported missing by his family for whatever reason (IMO). He looks very young to me (IMO) because he appears to have pimples); I don't really think he is more than 21 or 22.

Don't see the same heavy brow, but it's hard to tell much from that photo. Important to have all these out there. Maybe deserves its own thread, just for completeness.

Dong Jim Kim is wanted by the LAPD for burglaries that took place in about 1990 (?), unfortunately his photo is not very clear. Both men are about the same heights, the UID is a bit heavier. Dong was 19 at the time of the burglaries and would have been about 23 in April 1994. I see a resemblance between the two --

When suspect learned about the police investigation, he returned his vehicle to his father and has not been seen since.

Per the LAPD, Dong Kim was arrested prior to the burglary investigation. Does that mean his fingerprints would be cross referenced against the UID's or not exactly?

Just my two cents:
-I don't think he was murdered. If a gang is going to want to kill someone, they're not going to do it in a public area like a train station and leave a cryptic note. I think it was a suicide.
-I also think he was born in the US because he was circumcised. Asian countries don't circumcise their babies. Because he wasn't found in a heavy-immigrant place like LA or NYC, I wonder if he was maybe adopted and raised by an American family.

I did some much-needed revisions of my recon.

* I removed the Philadelphia backdrop. It made the image look too busy.
* I compensated for the raised eyebrows and elongated chin. These are likely postmortem effects.
* I lightened his skin tone. This is likely a postmortem effect, and the result of poor lighting.
* I redid his hair.

This is probably closer to what he looked like in life.

Often, they joined gangs to escape strict parents, which could explain the lack of tattoos/scars on our uid.

I don't think this was a suicide, I think our UID was part of a gang who killed him but tried to stage it as a suicide. I also think he was not reported missing, perhaps because he escaped strict parents like azure said above.

That article was VERY helpful. :tyou:

I dont think this was a suicide either. I have known many people in asian gangs and they hide it very well from outsiders. It is possible he has no family in the country or they already know what happened to him and cant come forward for fear of retaliation. They do circumcise in Asia but usually when they are older and only if your family can afford it. I had a good friend that was shoot between the eyes on a street in seattle and nobody ever came forward to claim him. He was buried by the county. The fear these asian gangs produce is incredible. He may also have been an illegal immigrant from asia. They fly under ther radar well so they dont get caught and deported.

This case sticks with me too. While it is rather morbid, it's my "favorite" UID case. I do not think this young man committed suicide. The gloves, note, and his scars all point to gang involvement/murder to me.

I wonder if we could get a copy of the autopsy report. Generally they can be purchased, correct? Maybe there's something there that will give us a hint.

From a rational standpoint this case doesn't make sense, however IMO his words and actions most likely came from a mental illness and a troubled mind.
Until he is I'd we won't ever know for sure.
