This is North Philadelphia, sadly one of the very worst sections of Philadelphia for crime, gangs and drugs. At one point, a long time past, it was a vibrant community of immigrants from Ireland, Germany and other countries. For at least the past 40 or more years that I know of (yes, I'm from Philly), even police have been reluctant to patrol many of these areas. I would not doubt a homeless person seeking shelter in one of the boarded up buildings. Neither would I doubt that vulnerable persons would be easy prey to criminals. (I had an older relative that was regularly tormented in the home he had grown up in.)

I remember the Chandler case and have seen the pics before and if I remember correctly, JNC was an alias and he suicided by gun

Correct, it was another identity stolen from a dead child... :(

On a separate note, again, if anyone wants to submit Eloise Chambers as a possible match on this Philadelphia case (see previous page), go ahead.

Not available for comparison at this time due to lack of Chambers' DNA.

Namus states: all parts recovered. Skeleton remains. She must have been there for some time. There must be a smell and lots of insects, but nobody noticed or reported it/did not want to report it?

it was a bad area. a lot of garbage, a lot of abandoned houses, a lot of residents who don't talk to police.

After doing some digging, i was able to find the owners of this condo/townhome. They are both male. They could just be renting this place out, acting as landlords so i won't put their names here but the initials are: JA-M and JH.
With the JA-M it could be the M is a spouse. The property assessment database sometimes does this. Would have been added later, as the sale date is 1947. Thinking maybe if the original owner got older they could have added a son or nephew to the deed. I did find a JA with wife M in 1940 census on Ancestry at another address, will look some more.

Now after doing research I see this is not accessible on Namus anymore so maybe she has been identified. But FWIW Lots of interesting stuff on Ancestry. Joshua A., his wife Mabel, and son lived in Philadelphia around 7th and Brown St. at the same address as John H. and his family in 1940. Joshua (born 1904) is in the social security death index noted to have died in 1974. His son (a WW2 Vet) died in 1994. Found both Joshua and Mabel listed in city directories at 2313 N. 10th btwn 1994-2000. Found John H. listed at the same address in 1950, (and his wife Willie) he appears to have died in 1969. I have not found SSDI or death info for Mabel, born @1906 (would have been age 100), Willie born @ 1902 or John's married daughter who lived with them in 1940. Am still looking, but feel possibly Mabel or Willie may have still been in the house, outlived anyone who would have been checking on her, and as she got older could not handle or afford the upkeep. It's sad, but it happens.

If the skeleton is complete/mostly complete, why is there no dental chart???

Could have lost her teeth premortem. Even today pulling is less expensive than root canal or restoration.

Yes, indeed. However, I've noticed case reports that indicate "endentlous" or a term meaning "no teeth" with either pre-mortem or antemortem or post-mortem mentioned.

Helpful information.

That would be great, but does anybody want (or even know how) to contact the investigators to check?
I don't know how common it is, but I've seen several cases disappear from NamUS for no real rhyme or reason (i.e. there definitely wasn't an identification) and they'll magically pop back up later. Sometimes over a year later.

still a permission error in Namus. The property still comes up as the same owners.

just checking, her Namus is still not accessible. The property still comes up the same owners, (long deceased) with no taxes paid on the property, database goes back to 2001. Lien on the home in 2016,17, and 18

And the property is STILL listed under the same owners. With no property taxes paid of course, because they are long passed. Not in Namus anymore that I can see. Guessing the deceased probably was Mabel or Willie, who outlived her family and friends. You are not forgotten dear lady, may you rest in peace.
