No where to go my hind foot. :tantrum:

Doesn't Boulder have motels? Iirc, LE offered to secure a hotel or motel for the Ramseys.

Of course there were motels/hotels, and you are correct- LE offered to arrange rooms for them. The Rs refused, insisting they preferred to stay with friends. Since they had not been arrested or taken to the police station for questioning, they were not obligated to go along with poiice suggestions and were free to stay wherever they wished.

Stay with friends? Even though one of said friends may be the intruder or involved with the intruder? I would think the LE protection would be much safer, no?

What else could be done? Patsy had already pleaded for Lazarus to raise her from the dead, once that option didn't work, they prayed, and it was time to go, yea?
)

Maybe someone else already responded to this (it took me ages to log in today, and I haven't scrolled ahead yet), but, technically, Patsy was praying to Jesus to raise JB as He had raised Lazarus. Just a technicality. :blushing:

Oops! You're right?

Safety didn't appear to be a major concern for the Rs, despite a crazed intruder breaking in while they were all snug in their beds, resulting in the abduction, sexual assault and brutal murder of their daughter. Nope, no cause to worry even though it was an "inside job."

Also don't forget, close friends weren't thrown under the bus initially. Only LHP, her husband, and that guy from Access Graphics made the first cut.

Yes- if you are INNOCENT. Remember these people knew they did not have to worry about an "intruder/killer".

An excerpt from the first article, printed 12.27.96, in Boulder's Daily Camera:

"Neighbors described Jon Bonet as a friendly, outgoing child. 'She was a beautiful little girl,' said Diane Brumfitt, a school counselor who lives next door to the Ramseys. 'But her personality - she was very engaging and charming.'

Brumfitt said police were outside the Ramsey house most of the day. The Ramseys left in a friend's car at midday, she said.

'It was almost surreal,' said Brumfitt. 'It just didn't seem real at all.'

Joe Barnhill, who lives across the street, said he stowed the Christmas bicycle John Ramsey bought for Jon Bonet until Christmas Eve. Barnhill was outside the house Thursday afternoon walking Jon Bonet's dog - a pet he said she received as a birthday present about two years ago.

He described the Ramseys - John, Patricia, Jon Bonet and her older brother, Burke - as a happy family.

'They are such congenial people - the best neighbors,' said Barnhill.

Barnhill said Jon Bonet's mother, called Patsy - a former Miss West Virginia - raised a well-mannered, polite daughter.

'She has been working so hard to groom her and raise her for the society we live in,' said Barnhill.

'Patsy is a doting, loving, incredible mother,' said Dee Dee Nelson-Schneider, a family friend who worked with Patsy Ramsey at Flatirons Elementary School. 'If anything, they spoiled Jon Bonet. For instance, one day Jon Bonet said to her mother that she didn't have enough dresses, so Patsy took her shopping and let her get some dresses.'

Patsy Ramsey traveled around the country with Jon Bonet to attend her daughter's beauty contests. 'They were so serious about this beauty queen stuff, but they never put any pressure on her. She was Little Miss Colorado in 1995,' said Nelson-Schneider.

'She had her own float in the Colorado Parade of Lights in December 1995, and Patsy walked along the side of the float the whole parade to make sure (Jon Bonet) was safe. That's how protective Patsy was.'"

John called an attorney several hours after the 911 call. No? Why would he need an attorney before finding JOnBenet?

John called an attorney several hours after the 911 call. No? Why would he need an attorney before finding JOnBenet?

Because he knew what happened to her. Remember he really didn't "find" her. He knew where she was all along and simply went to get her when the detective in charge told him to "look around again". It's not like he truly searched for her, not knowing where she was. He made a beeline for that basement room that raised suspicions even that day.
He likely called his attorney long before that 911 call as well. The phone records were sealed by a judge and the cell phone records for December "disappeared".

There were a couple of other behavioral clues exhibited by John Ramsey on the morning of the kidnapping that appeared out of sync with the circumstances at hand.
At one point that morning, while the family and police investigators still awaited the ransom call, pilot Mike Archuleta volunteered to fly to Minnesota to intercept the commercial jet carrying Melinda and Stewart - the suggestion being that he could quickly meet the kids and ferry them back to Boulder, thus avoiding the hassle of their having to arrange a new commercial flight into Denver.
John Ramsey nixed the idea, and I wondered why he didn’t want to take advantage of his pilot’s offer to shortcut the uncertainty of the availability of flights that would divert the kids to Colorado. I gave thought to the idea that perhaps he had declined this offer because he wanted to be assured of his private plane being accessible for a quick departure from the state. What came later seemed to confirm that piece of speculation.
It seemed incomprehensible to me that John Ramsey, within less than an hour of the discovery of the body his daughter, would be making arrangements to take his family and leave the state by private plane. When overheard making these arrangements with his pilot, Ramsey told Detective Bill Palmer that he had an important business meeting to attend in Georgia. Like many of the Boulder investigators, I pondered the question:
How could a business meeting in Georgia outweigh the need to work with authorities in their attempt to identify the person who had just murdered his daughter?
Foreign Faction, pages 324 - 325

BBM. In less than an hour his family excludes JonBenet.

What I find odd about the phone call to the pilot and the comment about a business meeting is that the family was ready to fly to MI, now all of a sudden it's a business meeting?

And the most aggravating thing is that police never seemed to call him out on how that "important business meeting" popped up as soon as his daughter was found dead in the basement. What happened to the trip to Charlevoix to meet up with his older kids? Because obviously that was still on until this happened and the kids were re-routed to Boulder. I can't believe LE let that one slip. Then again- it really doesn't surprise me.

I seriously doubt JR said he had an important business meeting in ATL, and I doubt even more that LE would have let such a statement slip.

I believe the statement is accurate. And LE let other comments slip too.

According to Schiller, (PMPT, p. 26 nook) Mr. Ramsey told Sergeant Mason "he had something really important to attend to." (1999)

According to Thomas, (IRMI, p. 361):

"The reason for giving the early instruction to his pilot to get the plane ready was he wasn't thinking clearly and just wanted to take his wife and son 'home to Atlanta.'" (Thomas, 2000)

According to Kolar, (FF: WRKJB, p. 41):

"At approximately 1340 hours, Detective Bill Palmer overheard John Ramsey speaking on the phone and making arrangements to fly to Atlanta that afternoon or evening. Upon the conclusion of the phone call, Palmer told Ramsey that he couldn't leave town as he would need to stay to assist in the investigation of the murder of his daughter.

The nature of this call was passed along to Mason, and he too spoke with Ramsey about leaving town. John Ramsey reportedly told Mason that he had to leave to attend a meeting 'he couldn't miss.' Sergeant Mason eventually convinced the father of the murdered child of the necessity of remaining in Boulder."
(Kolar, 2012)

Again, according to Kolar, (FF: WRKJB, p. 324):

"It seemed incomprehensible to me that John Ramsey, within less than an hour of the discovery of the body his daughter, would be making arrangements to take his family and leave the state by private plane. When overheard making these arrangements with his pilot, Ramsey told Detective Bill Palmer that he had an important business meeting to attend in Georgia." (Kolar, 2012)

RECAP and a little additional explication:
Making the assumption that no one is questioning JR wanted his pilot to fly them out of Boulder. (At 1:30 P.M., just twenty-five minutes after JonBenét’s body was found, JR called Archuleta again, at his home. “She’s gone,” JR said. “They’ve killed her.” Then he told Archuleta to ready the plane for a flight to Atlanta that evening. PMPT, Kindle p. 136)

Yet, the statements from JR seem to vary:
Atlanta’s shopping and country club life plus the availability of makeup were important to Patsy, according to JR. And when the police wanted the Ramseys to come in for interviews later that day, he said, “We couldn’t.” Following up on why they yearned for Atlanta , John Ramsey replied that Patsy liked the South, enjoyed shopping and the country club life in the city , and could not find lipstick in Boulder. He talked about his new Harley motorcycle. (IRMI, Kindle p. 322)

JR wanted to get back to Atlanta, where he and his family would be safe. The detectives asked Ramsey why, just minutes after finding JonBenét’s body, he had called his pilot to have his private plane take him and his family out of state that afternoon. Ramsey said that he had wanted to get back to Atlanta—where he and his family would be safe. Reminded that he had made the phone call within twenty minutes of finding his daughter’s body, Ramsey repeated that he had felt his family would be safer in Georgia. (PMPT, Kindle p. 184)

JR had an important business meeting. When overheard making these arrangements with his pilot, Ramsey told Detective Bill Palmer that he had an important business meeting to attend in Georgia. (Kolar Kindle p. 4160-4161)

JR says they just wanted to go home. Atlanta was their home. Barbara Walters interview

It’s possible the explanations as to why he wanted to fly out of Boulder were complex, were misunderstood by all the detectives, or simply changed.

The motivations of safety and wanting to get home are understandable in the light of a huge trauma, as is "not thinking clearly." Yet, unless one counts the people stationed at the school as a security force, there aren’t a lot of reports about JR, PR, or BR manifesting concerns about their safety, And 7 years later, the family relocates to Michigan, a relocation they had “talked about for years.” So the need to be “home” in Atlanta faded not long after they settled there.

I guess if one is a friend or relative, one might find any of the varied explanations logical. Obviously, the business meeting on the heels of finding JB's body and also the changing explanations re motivation to fly to Atlanta did raise questions for the police. They may have looked at it a little like this:

questfortrue,
Regardless of the reasons or rationale offered by JR et al, within 30 minutes of finding JonBenet's corpse he was considering leaving town.

JR's likely train of thought was staging accomplished, BR relocated, JonBenet found now lets get out of dodge!

Everything else is window dressing JR's mistake was in presuming his corporate status would trump everyone else.

Including roping in PR as an excuse, his only one since BR was sequestered elsewhere.

JR's strategy worked but some of his tactics reveal his and PR's hands at work, so revealing that BDI is the likely explication required?
