How could not putting on a mitigation case be cause for a mistrial? Don't they have a mitigation specialist that has worked this case for months if not years? You would have thought they would have their mitigation witnesses line up and ready to testify. They also should have know if these witnesses had legal issues that could be used to discredit their testimony. Did they think the prosecution would not bring up these type of facts?

Feel sorry for this jury. I think the defense's strategy is to anger the jury and then use this as a ground for appeal.

I did not realize that about a Witness. I thought they could get up and give a statement unchallenged? Meaning the Prosecutor then would not be getting up to cross examine? That is so "trial" like? I thought this phase was statements only?

The defendant makes a statement, an allocution and is not sworn or cross examined

The witnesses in mitigation are sworn, subject to cross and juror questions

SHE will make the determination who else speaks on her behalf.

Juan must have had something to impeach Daryl with. I have no doubt that Daryl's interview with Juan went similar to PW... just with differing evidence that caused him or the DT to decide his testifying was not a good idea for JA. MOO of course.

Been out running around this morning sooooooooo Am I understanding correct that EVERYONE showed up to court today and PW backed out due to JM prolly bring up her 'vice' issues & DB backed out due to something unknown?? or maybe JM has something on him..

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO JSS just said we can't continue today y'all come back tomorrow.. About right?? No excuse given why CKJA wasn't ready to jump up & give her "Please don't kill me speech cuz I'm sure I could come up with something somewhat worthwhile to give back to society I'm sure..blah blah"

Again showing Hardship for Alexander family they now had to come back from weekend due to last Thursday's delay.. Now till tomorrow then however long deliberations.. how much extra $$ have they now paid out for Miss Borderline to drag this out.. play victim etc etc. ..

I can't imagine they don't want to testify. Either Jodi or the lawyers must be preventing them from doing so.

You know, I just can’t imagine as a mother, not pleading for my daughter’s life. My DD and I actually had a conversation about this the other day. I told her how shocked I was that Jodi’s mom was not taking the stand to plead for her life. My DD said “you would, even if I had done what Jodi did?”

What I told her was from a mother’s perspective. Yes. I would. I would plead that her life be spared. Simply because she is my daughter. If it were me (as a regular person) talking about somebody else (not my child) I would feel entirely different. But the very fact that this IS my child...yes, I would beg that her life be spared. I would also tell the jury that I was glad that she is receiving punishment for her horrendous crime, but please spare her life.

JM stated on the record that PW had a drug problem. Is that what you mean?

You may only discuss what was said in court. JM stated PW had drug charges. We don't know what those charges are and we're not going to plaster her record here for everyone to see. He mentioned something about photographs. We don't know the story behind the photographs, so we're not going to speculate about that either.

Folks, it's the very argument Nurmi was making to the judge. It's witness intimidation and we can't allow it.

IMHO, she'll end up making a rambling allocution, but it won't be tomorrow. I predict she'll end up sick or otherwise unavailable until after the Memorial Day long weekend.

There was a trial back in the 1920s I think, where they brought in a witness on a hospital bed. Halls-Mills murders.

I thought she looked pleased until Juan argued against all the ridiculous BS she had given Nurmi to argue, then she looked severely pizzed. She constantly underestimates Juan because she isn't smart enough to operate at his level.

I know I've said this before, but the killer gets these ideas, thinks she's figured it all out, how to beat the system. So she jumps the gun, makes her defense team argue whatever ridiculous notion she's come up with, and it takes mere seconds for Juan to knock it down. The killer is squashed again leaving everyone on her side of the room looking like fools.

And her attorneys have no choice in the matter. Unless its illegal, they have to argue what she says. She's done it time and time again. And it's the same outcome every time. But she NEVER learns. She's so convinced she knows better than everyone around her, that she won't listen.

Isn't that the definition of insane? Doing the same thing repeatedly, expecting different outcomes.

Good point. And who really knows what is going on with this family. If one of my family members was convicted of murder one and possibly facing a death sentence...we would be holding each other up as we walked to the court room as someone else administered smelling salts to both my parent's. Here we have JA's family walking into the court house - some of them looked pretty chipper...I don't get it.

Probably because Jodi Ann has always been a basket case, and has made their life a living hell! Jodi's mom: "It's almost over now"! :twocents:
