Is it possible that SF wasn't aware she was going to his room? Date rape wrappers were found in her car. That is what the father said and I don't think he would have a reason to make it up. Since I'm sure she didn't keep those in her car we can assume that JVS gave her those drugs. I personally know two young women who had these drugs dropped in their drinks. Neither remember anything after drinking the drinks except being feeling kind of sick and then waking up at a later time with no memory of what occurred. Maybe they were dropped in a coke for her to drink in the SUV and then tossed afterwards. I personally don't think he would try to sell her his laptop when he could just rob her. I'm not sure about the text message though - that doesn't really fit the drugging picture - is it possible to send a text message under GHB? It woul also explain her walking with her head down (not feeling well).

Thanks. I was thinking more about why Stephany went to his room though. A PD's "reason," like JVS could be anything. While most crime is driven by money or power (sex is for power, not pleasure), for PD's, it can be any "reason" (pleasure, ability to feel something/anything at all), including "no reason" as a reason.

So my thoughts were really geared more towards Stephany's reasons for going to JVS's room. It could have been a "stop over" for them on the way somewhere else (and he claimed he needed to get more money or a credit card from his room), but I don't think so because of the text she sent to a friend that she'd call shortly. And, also, Stephany wouldn't have needed to go up to his room for that. She could have just waited in the car.

So that leaves the proposition that JVS lured her to the room on the pretense there was something *in the room* that she should/would be interested in having or seeing. Some ideas have been tossed around about them going there to split money, but they could have done that in the car. Absolutely no reason to go to his room for that. I think everyone has ruled out that she was interested in sex, so what would be *in the room* that Stephany might be interested in enough to overcome her reluctance to be there?

2. They didn't release everything to the public?

Although her father states that her chain and bracelet were stolen, in these still photos from the casino, it does not appear that she is wearing a bracelet, even when the pictures are enlarged....unless it was a very fine gold chain bracelet....same with a necklace. IIRC, you can clearly see she is wearing earrings in the hotel video.

In the video series of her father's interview on the media thread, I believe he mentions that she had the Nintendo Wii game in her car. But, then again, IIRC, there was a report that her car was unlocked when found. So someone else could have taken it....doesn't seem like something worthwhile that JVDS would be interested in.

Also, I wonder why he didn't steal her watch and ring that she is still wearing in the crime scene photos.

This is one option for adding some storage to the Wii. Don't forget about the USB ports on the back for flash drives and other storage media. My recommendation? Use the SD card. You might already be using one USB port for wireless internet, and who knows what you might need the second one for in the future, so don't sell yourself short by putting a flash drive in there.

I'm unfamiliar with everything mentioned but what I read here, she may have had more than one computer. I am aware that many 3'rd world countries don't have the same access and some maybe better. A friend of mine third world uses air-cards exclusively. Will check some more when I get home tonight. The tip off to me was the USB ports at the bottom of the cards.

There are USB aircards available in Peru for internet access, but I'd find it strange to have one apart from a laptop. Maybe it was just a USB memory stick, maybe it was a lighter.

There are internet cafes in that area $3.00 an hour. So if she had no computer handy she was savvy enough to pop in to a cafe and check her online stuff.

There are Internet "cabinas", but they cost less than $1 an hour.

About the message that Stephany sent. It was reported in El Comercio a few days after Stephany was found at the hotel (it was the entire second page of the paper) that Stephany dropped off her friend in San Isidro and then went to the casino (this was around 3:20 am). The article says that her friend called her 5 minutes later and Stephany didn't answer, then she sent the text saying that she was going upstairs to her bedroom. The police think that she lied because she knew that her friend disapproved of her casino gambling habit. I think that the message was sent long before she went to the hotel with Joran...
(of course, that article also said that Joran went to Wong to buy the coffee and I think he didn't because we've now seen that the cups are from somewhere else and Wong opens later).

Has it been confirmed that those last phone messages were right before going to Joran's room. The one that said "going up now"?

I wonder if they have timed their leaving the casino with the time they arrived at the hotel, to see if they had time to pick up drinks and sit in the car chatting until it started to work.

Who really knows what went on in that warped mind of his - it could be that he just asked her for a lift back to his hotel, then once there, asked her in for a nightcap.
Edited to add - just realized that it was early morning and not nightime, so make that nightcap, breakfast at his hotel because they were both hungry.

That gas station is where Joran supposedly bought the 2 cups of coffee when he left the hotel just after 8 am. I don't believe these 2 cups had the 'Holly' label on them, as did the cups shown in the crime scene photos.

I've been trying to think of possible reasons why Stephany would go to Joran's room...

  To play online poker. I’m not sure ahout this one - why would you play online when you have the real thing available. In any event, it’s not likely they would share a computer, there is no fun in that.

I agree...like her friends, don't think this was the reason she agreed.

I think this is a possibility, despite the fact that her friends said she was anti-drug. Recreational users' friends often don't know of occasional use. They tend to keep their "drug" friends separate from their regular friends.

Thanks for the ideas. Having some ideas as to why she might have agreed to go in his room may lead to, or eliminates perhaps, some ideas about what happened in the room (of course, so would a lot of other information, like if he really was out of money, or not...this point is still unclear, apparently).

I have been a little skeptical about her father's assertion that date rape drug evidence was found for several reasons,. The primary reason is that her dad has said several times that he thought the motive was robbery. Why would he think the motive was robbery if there was date rape evidence in the car...unless he thought that's how he would lower Stephany's resistance to being robbed. But...

*Planned* rape, robbery, murder or any other illegal purpose all seem like the least likely reason for JVS to lure her there...i.e., to a room registered to him. He could have done any of these things in the car and said she just dropped him off and had no idea what happened to her after they parted (sounds familiar). That is, he would have discounted his room as the destination during his planning stage if he had these purposes in mind, you would think...then again, he did admit to not thinking. But everyone already knew that about him. Surprised PLE even wrote that part down...maybe they were just humoring him.

FLNY, I can't really say but one can't play the game without the console. I'm unsure if she carried it to friends homes and played games. I'm also not sure why just a game would be missing unless someone lifted it from an open vehicle.

Peruvian police officials called Van der Sloot a "psychopath." A New York detective who worked for the Holloways, Bo Dietl, branded him "a homicidal maniac."

But no evidence has emerged thus far linking Van der Sloot to any other disappearances or killings, and he certainly does not fit the profile of a deranged loner. He has had plenty of interpersonal relationships — friends, girlfriends, ardent defenders.

I had never seen the videos of Joran recruiting for the sex trade in Thailand. It beats me how anyone can look at the video record of this guy (the De Vries undercover video, this sex trade video) and know that there is also video and documentary evidence of the extortion and not conclude that he is a real criminal. There his lying self is, talking about how the girls would make big money for dancing when he was selling them into sex slavery. I have no idea if he has killed women other than Natalee and Stephany. It wouldn't surprise me. We hash over motives, but there is a really simple explanation for his murder of Stephany: he likes having power and control over women and he likes money.
