ITA. Also, I don't see him as the type to go get coffee for a woman. Just look at the disrepect he has for her, walking in front of her, walking into the hotel room first, etc.
Exactly. From the time the report about the two coffees came out, I saw it as staging. MOO

Perhaps they went to his room to retire. He makes advances and she stops him (or maybe not)
Perhaps they argue and he pushed her hard, resulting in her hitting her head on the bedpost or headboard, table, chair, whatever.
Perhaps she is mortally injured when he left his room for the last time? Perhaps he had no knowledge that she was dead at that time however he LEFT HER FOR DEAD without calling assistance.
Could it be that is why he is so relaxed when leaving the room, cuz he could be thinking....hey I didn't kill her, so they got nothing on me?

Not taking sides just throwing ideas around.
IMO he is guilty of SOMETHING.
Leaving her for dead or killing her IMO results in the same outcome and I think Peru will look at it cut and dry: Both go in the room. Only one emerges. She is dead. It's got to be him. His guilt shows in traveling several hundred miles without looking back.

WHY return to the crimescene with coffees?

And while I believe in fair trials, I have no problem watching him squirm in h!ll.

Thanks for the video...It looks like police/officers are going thru his stuff with NO GLOVES on...Wouldn't you think they would have gloves on..?? HER fingerprints/DNA may be on the laptop, money,clothes,....???

Anyone find this odd??? No gloves???
thanks

For a trial in the US, yes. For a trial in Peru, probably not. From what I have read so far, it seems as though they have to have a preponderance of evidence to issue an arrest warrant in the first place.

In looking at the videos of the two of them in the hotel lobby and going into the room -- is it just me or does Stephany have a look of resignation? Almost like she has no choice but to follow and do what he says. She's not tied up, she doesn't have a gun to her head, but to me she looks like she is being forced to follow. Sure would like to hear what a body language expert has to say about both of their demeanors.

I followed the Holloway case very closely. In everything I have witnessed with the Vandersloot family, Anita and Paulus were parents who encouraged their son to keep his mouth shut whenever possible, do not offer any helpful information, and just lie, lie, lie.

Imo, Anita is someone who would insist her son continue to do what he always has done, what Paulus taught him... lie about everything, cover up the evidence, repeatedly change your story to confuse the heck out of everyone, disregard anything that resembles doing the right thing, think of yourself first, and on and on. Anita, imo, is the last person who would advise her son to come clean and tell the truth.

Several people have responded to this post, and I appreciate that everyone has the right to express their own opinion about Joran's recent arrest and any possible involvement he might have had in the Stephany Flores murder or the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. I don't know what to believe in either case because I don't feel that we have enough information about what involvement Joran had or didn't have in both instances.

That said, I feel that Joran's mother is owed some compassion and respect during this trying time. Surely, most of you know that Anita Van Der Sloot was widowed in February of this year when her husband passed away suddenly. She is still grieving the loss of her spouse and now has to deal with this almost unthinkable situation. Mrs. Van Der Sloot needs prayers to help her deal with this family tragedy rather than criticism or judgment. jmo

I agree that we should not be critical of the Peruvian justice system. It's their country and their laws. I am displeased that the Netherlands took issue with the coverage of the Perp walk. Many ordinary citizens in Peru are quite justifiably upset over this horrendous murder. IMHO the Peruvian police wanted to show their countrymen that the alleged perp was in custody and would answer to their laws. Ie we got him. Also the tapes of JVS when he arrived showed that he had been treated well in his transport from Chili to Peru. The LE of Peru is on the international stage so I have no qualms about their coverage of his arrival.
Lastly God bless Stephany's family. You have my sincere prayers. To JVS- if you cross the line you do the time....you just chose a foreign country to allegedly commit murder for the 2nd time. Too bad, so sad----ha ha

I just have a thought about Stacey going back to the room with JVDS.

Eventually we will probably find out why. But I wanted to share something that I am trying to now teach my teenages before they come of age and venture out into the world on their own.

That is in my personal experience for the most part, we tend to judge the trustworthiness of others by our own trustworthiness. Meaning, if you, yourself, will not rob, assault, lie to others then you (especially when young) assume others in your company are going to treat you the same way.

There's no telling why she went to his room but once she stepped across the threshhold she was in his world. I do believe that JVDS is severly personality disordered and probably can appear to be quite harmless to anyone that does not know him and what he is capable of doing. She never stood a chance against him once he had her in his company. Bless her heart.

I think you hit the nail on the head. These men ...ahem...are quite cunning and charming, with the ability to mask any transparency into themselves. Fact---they even pull the wool over the most astute psychologists or psychiatrist's eyes. It's mind boggling, really, because we repeatedly ask "Didn't they see any signs."...and most of the time...they didn't show any. It's very frightening. Same thing happened in Rachael Anderson't case that I'm following and she was a 40 year old woman. Thank you and kudos to you for educating your teens...especially against any form of DV.

We know that she did return home & sent the text to her friends that she was going to bed. Maybe Joran then texted her to meet up with him back at the casino for more play, to hang out, whatever.

Or if she and her girlfriends had met VDS earlier, and they were aware that SR had been invited to meet with VDS later after SR dropped her girlfriends off at their home/s, one of the girlfriends may have advised SR to just go home to sleep (like they were). The girls may have had a discussion on the drop-off ride, like young adult women do. SR simply may not have wanted to further discuss with her girlfriend/s what her final decision was, and blew her friend off by texting that she was now walking upstairs to bed in her home.

I also believe her death took place closer to the time of arrival than inbetween him returning with the coffee and leaving for good ~ for another reason. What would they have been doing in the room for over two hours if she wasn't "interested" in him? If she were able to I would think she would've left the room long before the time he went out for coffee. And if she were able to, why didn't she go get the coffee with him? :waitasec: MOO

I am very new to Websleuths (this is my first post!), but I have been following this case and have read most of the forums associated with it on WS.

I agree that she was most likely killed some time before he went for coffee. I believe he had the two cups of coffee with him because he either wanted to appear as though she was still alive and well in the room or they were simply both for him. He was obivously up all night and had a long day ahead of him (having to run from the scene of the crime).

As other's have mentioned, I am also confused about her car and if they drove or walked to his hotel/hostel. Are there any links to articles that could clear this up?

Thanks in advance!

In case anyone is interested, according to the blog below, Tim Miller is back in Aruba this week, along with Dave Holloway, and he will be searching again based on new information received as a result of the raid that happened (after Joran's most recent arrest), at the house of the man JVDS had been corresponding with in the past few weeks. It looks like he will be interviewing Dave tonight also at 8 p.m.

One of the things that has been bothering me about the coffee.....I have googled the hostel and accomadations and it seems all rooms have coffee/tea makers in them. My husband and I have traveled to a lot of 3rd world countries and this seems standard no matter what conditions. I could sure use some help as I speak just enough spanish to get me in trouble! Any help is appreciated. If true, the only reason he would go out to get coffee would be to set up his alibi. :banghead: or to get rid of the bag he was carrying...just saying...

Wecome, lala! I agree that the coffee was staged as an alibi.

I've been wracking my brain to remember where I heard about them walking to the hotel. I think it was from a report from Phil Keating, but couldn't swear. I'll look to see if I can find it.

And I also noticed the coffeemaker on the table in the video of them walking by the front desk. I agree, it's staged. MOO

I just assumed they wanted one of the fancier coffees, I didn't even think about him using it as an excuse to carry something out of the room...would love to see those tapes of him leaving to get coffee!

True true. And while I don't disagree with you, I would rather go to Starbucks or Tim Hortons to get a coffee. Although I am unsure those franchises were available where JVS stayed. Somewhere it was being said he went to a gasstation or supermarket<?> to buy bread and coffee.

BBM... this is first I've heard this. Any chance of a link without too much trouble?

Thanks for bringing over the videos. :)

Here is where I got the 45 minutes in the car. Maybe Scandi can provide a direct link? I know that we have been told of a video of them driving in the car, walking back video, etc. So I was taking my theory from the car being driven back to the hostel. Seems the first story was that she had offered to give him a ride back to his hotel. ???? From last thread #3:
