This is the reason for the debate on pit bulls. I can see a pit that was trained to be aggressive or a fighter tearing someone up. But, the ones that have always know love and been with the same family since a puppy that turns on it's owners, well what is the reason? Is it already wired in the dogs brain to snap? Some never snap and how can you predict that?We had a couple of pitbulls growing up. One was such a wonderful dog the whole family loved it so much. It turned on us children and my father had to shoot it. So out of character we could not understand.
The next was very loving and frisky. It loved to play fight with rope or a ball. But then it got so we would feed it and it would snap at us. From there it started killing the other animals and going between sweet and mean with us. My brother had to have him put down. These dogs were treated as the others, we had acres for them to roam and be free on, gave them lots of love and yet they turned. Never were they mistreated. Only spoiled with treats and love. We also raised chow chows and I can tell you they are very loyal but will bite people outside the family.
Oh good luck! I am leaning towards a Boston.Wish us luck we are going to look at some blue pitbull pups tonight or tomorrow. I really wanted a smaller dog but my husband says he only wants a pitbull or a Huskey. My aunt has a Huskey that is meaner than all get out, he has bit my son twice. I know they are not all bad but I can't get the image out of my head so off on a pit puppy search it is. My son is still crying a little bit about Lola so hopefully this will cheer him up a bit.

humans kill more than pit bulls in ratio to their respectve population totals.
Some pit bulls snap, some don't.
Some humans snap, others don't.
you can have the best family in the world and be a killer.
You can have wonderful, loving owners and still have an attack dog.
I don't think the breed is any more dangerous than human beings are.
True by the numbers Maura. But we are distinguished from animals in that we can reason through our thought processes. I don't know of any animal that has killed for sexual gratification, or financial gain thorugh insurance, robbery or fraud. Killers like that plan murder, dogs don't.humans kill more than pit bulls in ratio to their respectve population totals.

How horrible!Police: Caretaker Found Dead After Dog Mauling At Actor's Home
LOS ANGELES -- A man working as a caretaker at a residence owned by actor Ving Rhames was found dead on the property Friday morning after being mauled by two dogs, authorities said.

"Both those dogs are mastiffs; they're rather large," Lombardo said. "Normally we understand they are pretty friendly dogs. But, you know, there are occasions where dogs will turn on their owners or their caretakers, and this looks like a tragic accident."
