Persons of interest in the West Mesa case, but no evidence

ALBUQUERQUE – Several persons of interest attracted the attention of Albuquerque law enforcement for their possible role in the West Mesa homicides or because of what they might know about the crimes. Two of them are dead and two are in prison. Police, who have not named suspects, acknowledged that so far they have not developed any workable evidence against any of these persons of interest:

Lou Fred Reynolds, 60, who police said was a pimp, died of natural causes on Jan. 2, 2009. Police found pictures of several West Mesa victims at his home but no physical evidence linking him to the murder. Reynolds, of Albuquerque, was arrested in 2001 and in 1998 on suspicion of promoting prostitution.

Fred Reynolds, the deceased pimp, had naked pictures of a few of the victims. It was reported that Doreen Marquez was a girl in one of the pictures. Fred Reynolds owned an escort company called Have Mercy Escorts and the escorts were advertised on his web page. I don't believe he had anything to do with the murders but he might have suspected who was taking the girls, maybe?

Yeah, like maybe one his customers. If he knew, or suspected, one would think he would go to police. Unless, he was afraid.

I agree with you...I don't believe Fred Reynolds, the deceased pimp, was the killer. I've read old articles that basically say there was no way in hell he could've been the killer. Honestly, I think APD dropped the ball when the girls went missing. It seems like everyone in the area (APD vice, other prostitutes, other people in that life, etc.)knew these girls were missing and no one did a damn thing about it. It makes me angry because if the girls would've been from "the heights" (the good part of town) there would've been a better effort to find them when the first couple of girls went missing. It kind of reminds me when Albuquerque Public Schools and government refused to admit there was a problem with teens and heroin...it didn't become an issue until heroin use showed up at La Cueva High School (a school in the far ne heights).

Here is a good article discussing Fred Reynolds. What is interesting is Amy Lujan, who is the sister of Vanessa Reed Lujan, stated that Fred was a good guy and a recovering addict who just wanted to help the girls. Amy also says there is no way he is the killer. Vanessa Reed Lujan is still missing. She fits the same profile as the victims. Vanessa was reported missing in June of 2006...reported missing by Amy. According to Amy she was last seen leaving a hotel they were living at on central and wyoming after a fight they had.
