That was our speculation too, that she did not realize she was still on forbidden territory. Thanks for the details on the towers.

Since I've lived in Arizona for 53 years, I'd like to talk about the route she took to West Jordan, Utah. Everyone seems to assume she drove up Highway 93 from Phoenix, all the way to Hoover Dam.. Did she say she took 93? If she did say that, I'm sure she took a different route, because she lies whenever it is to her advantage, and she would try to throw the search for possible evidence is another direction. There are 3 ways to get to Nevada and then on to I-15, where she wanted the trail to show up again. Highway 93 is a dangerous 2 lane road the whole way from Phoenix to Hoover Dam, not nearly as heavily traveled as the interstates. She wanted to not be noticed in Arizona and a less traveled road doesn't add up for me. I-17 goes directly to Flagstaff, with one turn West on US40 to Kingman and then north to the Hoover dam on Highway 93. The other route is to go north on I-17 to Flagstaff, then Highway 89 to Utah. Either of these two alternate routes makes more sense to me. Highway 89 goes straight north to about 20 miles south of the Utah border then turns west for about 90 miles. This same road could be the cause of the cell phone pings when she thought she was out of Arizona.

Good info franque, I've got trial day 24 playing right now to hear (again) what she says about the trip details - one question so far, they (her and JM) talk about her getting gas at 'Desert Center' - is that the Pasadena purchases? She says she gets gas again at Buckeye, on this side of Phoenix, unless she was refilling only the tank she didn't need to (and of course no receipt for and no logic to with the full cans).

When I can, I'll look at a map and the roads you mention frankque, thanks again.

I think the Buckeye fillup was on her way to Phonix.

Yeah, I should have been clearer than 'this side'. lol

Nothing much picked up while YTing days 24-26 (and sampling 20), well, wait, I did make a couple notes:

In all of her story about what they did after she arrived, when does she mention Travis getting ready to clean his floors? Not once, but does mention to Flores all the furniture was on off the tile, but she never works his floor cleaner/moving furniture into her story.

Says Travis is still seated in the shower when the ceiling pic is taken (5:31:14).

Texted Travis at 10:58 am 6/06, close to reaching Ryan's.

E-mailed Travis at 10:31 (no am or pm visible) 6/07.

Oh - and the shaving pic was taken in January, '08.

I wanted to add to the conversation on the cell phone call that originated while she was still in Arizona. It doesn't make sense that she would
go to all that trouble to be invisible in Arizona and then make a cell phone call knowing she was still in Arizona. Last year we drove to SLC and noticed when we checked the time, some miles south of the Utah border, the time on our cell phones changed to Utah time, an hour later then Arizona time. We figured our cell phones, in Arizona, were pinging off a tower across the state line in Utah. This is desolate country with spotty cell phone reception. Could this same thing have happened to JA in reverse? Could she have thought she was across the Nevada border and she had made it safely out of Arizona with no footprint, but actually, the tower was in Arizona, not Nevada?

She did cross the border into Nevada but her cell pinged off a tower Arizona when she turned it on. Flores mentioned this to her during his interview with her after her arrest. jmo

I see what we have created is a Cross Currant Pie with lattice cover. Hold the pepper. The crust is short and the innards purse your lips they are so sour. Will we speculate as to what slices are served to whom?

Too cryptic for my poor brain. This is right over my head.

I have never been able to find out who filed the original motion or its content; does anyone have any info?

7/9 NOTE: OBJECTION TO REQUEST FOR ENTRY OF NUNC PRO TUNC ORDER FOR RETENTION OF PSYCHOLOGICAL EXPERTS WHO TESIFIED IN THE FIRST TRIAL AS WELL AS PROSPECTIVE ORDER FOR THOSE WHO WILL TESTIFY IN THE UPCOMING PENALTY PHASE

If I understand the legal terms correctly, the original motion would have requested retroactively that the same psychological experts be retained for the retrial? Would this be the defense trying to secure a court order for ALV to be under court order to testify again, because she is now unwilling to do so after the backlash of the first part of trial proceedings?

Yes, and there would be no time discrepancy to tip her off, as Nevada (like California) was on PDST which is the same as Arizona standard time, DST never in use there. So many factors tripped up the arch criminal who truly believed, in the elevations of her conceit, she had committed the perfect, well premeditated crime.

A defense strategy seems to have been meeting in chambers, rather than discussing things in court. This case/trial has also had a lot of ex parte meetings. I would expect to see the same on August 26.

JSS indicated that it is her preference that trial begin in September. She also expressed concern about one issue that might not be resolved in time for this date to be realistic. We still don't know what the issue might be.

Could the Richard Chrisman trial conflict with a penalty trial? I don't know what types of issues could give a judge pause in terms of scheduling other than availability of all parties. What are other possibilities?

From another website:

"I just listened to a spreecast with Beth Karas on WAT and she said that a September trial is not very likley BUT not because of any defense delay tactics. It's a simple reason. They are still working on tansscribing 5 months of trial. Both sides (but especialy the defense) are entitled to have full transscripts and time to prepare based on what the exact testimony was in the 1st trial. That seems to be the reason the judge was not very optimistic to actually set a date for September because she realized that all the poor court clerks are probbaly not done in time with transcribing."

There was yet another issue, though. The one you referred to that was based on in chambers conversations among Nurmi, Arias and Judge Stephens.

Yes, more bitter than the 'no jury will convict me' words she eventually expected to have to ingest.

I found this on AZ Central after Juan Martinez filed his response to Nurmi's last motion on cruelty:

"Prosecution argued that state & federal courts have found the process continued to pass constitutional muster, and that the defense motion, which also claimed the process violated the separation of legislative and judicial powers, lacked merit."

If AZ Central can see and read the State reply, why can't we? Not fair!

Really not fair. Esp. since tax dollars are funding the grande dame's show.

Speaking of our main ingredient, I wonder how she has taken the news of the denial? What stalling plot is she now working, out of the light of her counsel and all else? Nurmi and Willmott must have expected a big red fail with motion so should have had ideas on how to proceed, but saucy miss must have her own dark thoughts braising.

AZ Central is using the AP story...same article quotes/descriptions are in a lot of the articles on this ruling. Maybe AP paid to get the records?

Sad to say, but it seems like these are the "glory days" for saucy miss CMJA. I doubt that she has ever had this much attention in her lifetime. She has enough adoring fans that I doubt the ruling phased her in the least.

Even locked up for 23 hours a day with limited privileges, the attention seems to be enough to keep her going. I imagine that she must get a considerable number of postcards to read each day. Once this trial is over and she is transported to Perryville, things will calm down and she will fade into obscurity.

It's almost as if the attention is nourishment for her.

I do find it very telling that not one single family member has stepped forward to claim her innocence. They have been in court to support her as her life is on the line, but there have been no public statements made by her family of which I am aware.
