Potential DT Witness Sally Karioth

If he only thought of it today they why did LKB talk about the DT having a bombshell when she was on TV on Wednesday night?

I went back and listened and JB says they've "only just thought of it and that's the truth". So I didn't remember correctly. Sorry 'bout that.

Here HHJP is stating they could do a depo of Ms. Karioth(thank you to WSers who post tags)after JA argued a depo of Ms. Karioth would be a depo of hypothetical(s) because Ms. Karioth will not have met with the defendant nor written a report.

HHJP cites case law that says what the defense wants has to "aid the jury in understanding" then says, "I don't know what time she is talking about" because bereavement generally takes place after a body is found." (12:47 mark) "And someone recognizes the fact that someone is in fact dead so for me to rule on this at this time without a depo being taken or reports being given because if that person is permitted to testify that person has to do every thing that every other expert is required to do."

The part I put in bold, regarding bereavement and HHJP stating that bereavement generally "takes place after a body is found" made me think of the jail tape they have showing Casey's reaction to Caylee's body being found. My understanding is that is one of the few motions the defense won to keep that out of the trial. (I could be wrong please correct me Is HHJP saying that tape might become admissible or the door would be opened for that tape if the defense wants to show bereavement?

The defense would be arguing that bereavement would begin on June 16th 2008 the day Caylee "accidentally drown" because that was the day the defense says "the body was found." And, if the tape of Casey's reaction were to come in how would they explain her having a reaction after she already had seen "the body?"

If you check the above site it states she will be in London until june 17th..

IF, indeed, the good doctor is out of the country, it seems entirely possible that she could be unaware of the "idea" that JB "just thought of today".

Since she is also a Professor at Florida State University, just a few miles up the road from Orlando, she is likely familiar with this case with her opinions already formed.

Mr. Baez may not like what she has to say.

If the defense gets the warm-fuzzy, "Casey has feelings, too," lady, then the state should get to select an expert who treats children who have gone through severe physical trauma at the hands of psychotics-maybe the physicians that treated Girl-X of Cabrini Green-to discuss what Caylee could have been feeling when she was being murdered.

Well, now I have read the thread and from what is linked regarding Ms. Karioth is there anywhere to know if she would have expertise in "finding a body." And how people would react/behave? It does not seem so. :dunno:

The judge said this motion was subject to the same requirements as any other motion and the judge really couldn't rule one way or another until he had a report and a deposition. JA said they will depose Ms. Karioth as soon as they get a report. Now, all Jose as to do is get a report from Ms. Karioth. :waiting: ullhair:

Even if he does get a report, and Ms. Karioth is deposed: she is still subject to HHJP's ruling on the matter, is my understanding.

The way Jose got so upset at Jeff Ashton calling him out on his being disingenuous- that Jose had just thought of calling such a witness today, makes me think he has a personality disorder. I am not being snarky. The same as I say for ICA, Jose's behavior is outrageous, IMHO. I cannot imagine such a blatant example of being disingenuous being a part of job. I have come to understand it is the job of the defense team to defend their client. Taking that understanding into consideration, I understand Jose getting in the motion/expert testimony if he can-I understand his "acting" like he didn't know anything about it(for a few minutes while CM exclaimed he had an alibi and it couldn't be him) but how can Jose get so personally offended when he is called out fairly for playing his game?

IMHO Jose acts like Casey. He is outraged that Mr. Ashton would even suggest such a thing! He acts truly offended and in his outrage is telling us it is Mr Ashton who has done wrong. When in fact, all Mr. Ashton did was state the facts. Jose did not have that kind of real emotion during the "key" moments of his opening statements.

I am :waiting: to hear but I cannot imagine this behavior exhibited by Jose at the end of the day today, can be explained by his job title, responsibility? TIA.

All I can tell is that she has/is an RN and that doesn't qualify her as a mental health specialist. Not sure why she is calling herself a grief counselor. I can't tell what her other degrees are in or where they're from. She wrote a book called "If You Want To Know If You're Dying, Ask the Cleaning Lady " *sigh* sounds like another fame seeker imo.

I'm not sure the critical thinkers on the jury will be too impressed with her. I wonder what percentage of her claims are based on empirical studies/science, and I can't find any peer reviewed publications in which she has been published. I'll keep looking.

She is a professor at the school of nursing at Florida State. Is her PhD in psychiatry? Teaching courses on coping with death and grieving does not make her a subject matter expert.

I'm not worried. LDB will make mincemeat out of her credentials. She might well be the source of TL's original "ugly coping" theory, and she may be able to excuse all of ICA's partying but I doubt she will convince a juror that her "spiteful little biotch" persona, which was all too evident the past few days is part of any coping strategy for grieving.

I doubt the JAC will pay for this woman, and even if she's doing it pro-bono, the free advertising and exposure she would get to further her career as a paid speaker is just obvious and will impugn her credibility.

And GA didn't try to commit suicide until after he found out that Caylee's little skull had duct tape with a heart-shaped sticker on it. If he feels guilt about anything it was probably not having ICA arrested and put away for grand theft with all those thousands she stole from CA's bank account from late 2007 to mid-2008.

She's a good speaker, very funny, she is a good stand-up comedian. But so far I'm not finding what this speech has to do with compassion or energy (still 10 minutes to go).

i'm sure a PSYCHO Dr could be found who would be willing to prostitute him or herself for something or other.

but for some reason i thought the dt gave up that strategy by not calling one. so if thats right, she wouldn't be for that purpose.
