(all paraphrased)

Chief: Not allowed to talk about the evidence.

Q: Will he be brought to Farifax immediately.

Chief: We will ask for a bench warrant, and Matthew probably will be brought there shortly afterward.

Chief: Working very diligently down in Albemarle. All very complex cases. He's willing to go first, last, whatever he's asked to do

Q: Any other pending related cases?

Chief: Can't answer that question

Will issue a bench warrant Thursday. He said they will try their case 1st, last whatever. Whatever is dictated/needed by the other cases.

Lead detective stayed in touch with victim for 9 years & the victim is grateful.

Has victim identified JM?
He can't answer that

Any other unsolved cases in that timeframe?
Can't answer

Is victim still helping?
Victim is grateful to the lead detective; she's grateful the case will go forward

Was she targeted?
Can't answer

No court date set

He won't speak of the evidence. Won't speak of link to other cases. A bench warrant will be issued later in the week. He doesn't care if he goes first or last (as far as how charges will be handled). Want to keep this as "clean as possible."

Lots of "I can't comment on that" due to the fact that it would be commenting on evidence.

Suspect does have an attorney.

DP NOT available on these charges.

"The death penalty is not available on these charges because our victim is alive."

Just to reiterate:

The indictment spells out the three charges against Matthew.

“On or about the 24th day of September, 2005, in the City of Fairfax, Jesse Leroy Matthew, Jr. did feloniously, willfully, deliberately, intentionally and with premeditation attempt to kill R.G. in the commission of or subsequent to an abduction with the intent to defile,” the first count against Matthew reads.

The second count says that Matthew “did feloniously abduct R.G. with the intent to defile.”

The third count states that Matthew penetrated the victim “against her will, by force, threat or intimidation.”

Any delay is because they wanted to be thorough.

Why'd indictment take a while?
Still collecting evidence..the delay recently was due to being thorough. Be cautious and thoughtful.

Won't say if victim is in US, but she is cooperative.

Victim is cooperative. Won't say where she is.

So, attempted to abduct, rape, and murder. Sounds very familiar...

"that case was helpful to this department in its investigation"

referring to MH case.
