One of the previous owners removed that spiral staircase, so yeah..it looks so different now, it is easy to get lost. HUGE house...though.

O had no idea, I knew that their had been some remodeling done but I never heard that the spiral staircase was removed and replaced Thank You I was so looking for the spiral staircase in that tour. But you are right HUGE house and for me put a couple of big ???? in very large perspective.

Patsy's decorating style gave me a headache just looking at the pics !!!
I believe they did leave in that same black n white flooring in the kitchen though.very retro and cute, imo.like an old diner or something vintage.

If you are new to the case, consider renting the DVD "Perfect Murder, Perfect Town". It is a 2-hour made-for-TV movie on Lawrence Schiller's book of the same name. The Ramseys were supportive of Schiller's portrayal, though he was pretty neutral, IMO. They allowed him complete access to the home, and his movie sets are exact reproductions of the Ramsey rooms.
There are plenty of websites that show virtual "tours" of the house as it was at the time of the crime.

I like to call Patsy's decorating scheme "Chaos Theory Circa 1980's"

Yeah, like how could an intruder move around in a dark house that large...without anybody hearing so much as a peep. And he did it WITHOUT a flashlight, "he" used the Ramsey's AFTER he got into the home, and then he wiped it down. Now, there maybe some IDI's that might say...well, he may have entered the house while it was still daylight. Well, to that I say...it would have been impossible, because CO in the winter is pitch dark around 4:00, and I believe that the Ramsey's left for the White's around 6 pm...I could be wrong about the time, and if I am I hope someone will correct me, it was in the late evening though...I DO know THAT much. Anyway...it WOULD have been dark inside and out...PITCH DARK. Even WITH a flashlight, there would have been NO WAY that he could have remained as quiet as a mouse, with all that went on in that house that night. Funny how the "intruder" didn't leave any fiber evidence AT ALL...but, the Ramsey's fibers were all over the crime scene..and the body, and entwined in the garotte that was around her neck. Yeah, I know...I am getting way off topic here.

I just realized that you were the new poster from CO...so YOU KNOW yourself how dark it gets there...because you LIVE there. LOL I lived in MT, and have visited CO, so that is how I know.

Geesh, I KNOW..it looks like as much money as they had...she could have had some matching furniture in JB's bedroom.

LOL,yea, the decor was like looking at a painted zebra, one w many colors going every which-a-way!

OFF TOPIC...we are leaving on Saturday to come out your way. How's the weather?? As long as it's not raining...I will be happy. LOL

Ames, you are very correct about the Winter Evenings in CO COLD and DARK!!!! Around X-mas yes the evening does come early as you said around 4 and defiantly by 6 pm it would be very dark. Adding to the fact that Boulder sits at the foot of the foothills and a canyon as I believe that there was snow that evening the added cloud cover coming off the Mountains, in the winter clouds around her come in very low and very dark, would have taken care of any ambient light that may have existed from moonlight ect.

The house being of the Victorian era tends to have a boxy feel as in not an open floor plan say as a ranch style home, not only would a random intruder have a damn hard time getting around in there through the dark. I also feel that that person would have had to have a certain comfort level in the house and the way the rooms are stand alone rooms as in you can't see or be able to hear what or who would be coming from one room into the other, just adds more to my already growing suspicions that the murder(s) had to have had pretty expensive knowledge of the floor plan and where everyone was in the house at any given time during the events of that evening.

Thanxs for the sug for the movie I thought I would read all of the books then move to the movie. But I think I may have to hit up the Video store this weekend where I am in the books having a bit of knowledge on the house lay out might help me a little.

I like to think of Pasty's decor style as TACKY LOL actually it looks to me like a person that didn't come form the Old Southern Belle Money but was trying to make everyone think that she was. Sorry Patsy but money can not buy you class. OWWWW that came out a little snarky didn't it  WOW I guess you all can already see a little of what side of the fence Ms B is a headin for.

Don't be fooled by PR's messiness and overdone decorating. Those were antique English burled walnut twin beds in JB's room, and the dresser between the 2 beds is a McKenzie-Childs dresser costing thousands.

*There were nightlights throughout the house--it wasn't pitch dark.
*There was carpeting throughout---which would have absorbed noise.
*The intruder left tan fiber evidence--most likely from gloves; dark blue fibers; and dog hairs. There may be more that wasn't leaked. There is no evidence that the Ramsey's fibers were all over the crime scene. That was thrown out by Michael Caine, but when called on the carpet to produce the proof, he changed the subject. He was grandstanding, and he knew the video-taped interview in Lin Wood's office would be released to the public.

I don't know if there's any factual information as far as any lights that might have been on when Officer French went into the basement.

I met someone from the historical society that was at the open house the year before. He was typical Boulder mountain man type. He thought the decorating over the top---too southern for his taste. Another person thought it was beautiful, and was decorated beautifully for Christmas.

I remember going through Elvis's house years ago. I was aghast at the decorating. I thought it was tacky, considering his wealth. Southerners were oohing and ahhing.

The house was not complicated. The basement was only under the original part of the house--with a crawl space under the expanded area. An obvious master bedroom on the 3rd floor, bedrooms on the second level. Kitchen, dining room, living room, etc. on the first. It was not a complicated house at all. If the perp was in the house while the Ramsey's were away, it wouldn't take long to figure out where everything was, and he would have at least made a plan for taking JBR out of the house. He could have gone out the door on the first floor. I think Lou Smit is correct---he didn't know if the alarm was on, so went out the way he came in....but couldn't get JBR out that way.

..and 'the intruder' just happened to leave his flashlight on the bar upstairs, which would be needed to see to get out, esp. in a basement.
even JR's kids said the house was a maze, you could get lost just turning around, and would be difficult to navigate, esp. in the dark.
btw,I'm southern and I find Patsy's taste in decor alarming and extreme.

Nobody got in or out through that basement window.
Intact spider webs in December mean the grate wasn't moved.
FW ADMITTED he was the one who put the suitcase there while looking at the glass shards. BTW, the break in that window was small. It's not like anyone could fit through the broken pane.
The chair was pulled in front of a closed door. THAT was a nice trick. Close the door, THEN reach through the closed door to pull the chair next to it? Well, as PR said...the "intruder" was clever enough to do it. Clever and not possessing a physical body.

The house is certainly a mix of styles. The ugly modern back addition doesn't go with the classic Tudor style at all. BUT I don't know if the Ramseys built the addition or if they bought it like that. I seem to recall reading that the addition was already built when they bought it.
I think the photos focus on the back because the front of the house is so notorious and also because it just looks so much bigger from the back. Let's face it- they were "more is more" kinda people.

In "DOI" they explain their finding the house, and the expansion of the " children's wing". This is the rounded modern glass part on the back of the house. PATSY even designed it.

I am originally from Kentucky I like to call the decor style as Southern French. I think that her style had the Southern flair to it. But I think that most times you can tell from a person home decor (esp. in more affluent people) their personality's come out and I truly, not trying to be snarky you can see the chaos that I believe was Patsy's way of thinking.

I did make reference above to an intruder not being able to find their way around the house, I was basing that on a perfect stranger coming and pulling this off. Now if someone familiar or that was able to get into the home for a period of time w/o the family being in their, sure the intruder could plan it out run the path from JB room to the basement ect and be able to manage the house in the dark. But, and I am not finished with all my books so I could be speaking out of turn, I have heard of no evidence that supports how someone got in the house or even an appearance of a invasion on the structure of the home.

Respectfully bolded by me...........NO :eek::eek::eek:

I have yet to read that one yet..........OK DeeDee I am going to have to stop reading your post's at work cause that is the second time I have had to pick my Jaw up off my keyboard. You totally just blew my mind............that was a huge part of my theory on IDI even though I am still in the pasture sitting.

Having lived in Nashville and Atlanta, I think Patsy's decor definitely had a Southern flair. There are some beautiful big new houses in Marietta and once you go inside you're hit with florals and french country kitchen stuff. Not my taste for sure.

I think that is a really nice home. The remodeling is fantastic. Finishing the basement was a good idea and blocking the original wine cellar forever is a good move too.

Could I live there? Probably. I've thought about that for many years. I think there were happy memories there too. The R's never really lived there after that.

I wouldn't be spooked by spirits or anything but I darn sure would worry about intruders because of the area and Boulder in general and would have a super duper alarm system.

I was going to add that it is odd when I look at the pictures, it's obvious that it is the Ramsey house. No matter how many crime scene photos I've seen, when I saw the house as it is listed, instead of picturing a grisly murder scene, thoughts of the kids running around and playing in that HUGE house made me smile. I'm sure it was a fun place for them.

I get the same feeling. Somehow, that makes it worse.

While Patsy's style isn't my style (too fussy) we have to remember that it was decorated circa 1993, and still had that '80's feel.
Even though the back addition is very different from the original house, the whole thing feels very together now. I think the remodeling is lovely.

Could I live there? The way it is now, certainly. I talk to dead people anyway. But I very much doubt she'd bother coming around now.
