I'm hoping to hear confirmation that Parker is a State witness. That the inmate would have the gall to drag in a Mormon bishop to testify for her or against Travis is infuriating.

Rumors on FB have it both ways. Nobody seems to know. But I could not agree with you more.

AZLawyer....from before, a question. Do you believe that Nurmi lied in court about defense mitigation witnesses? Ie, do you really think its possible none exist although he told the court otherwise? (BTW, I don't).

I think Jen or wild said it on twitter.

Since the especially cruel lying torture murderess successfully petitioned JSKS for the Court to seal her witness list, Vernon Parker cannot be a defense witness.

That, or it was a significant Court error to publish Mr. Parker's name in a manner by which the 'unworthy' Arizona taxpayers may actually view it.

We find, therefore, that Mr. Vernon Parker is decidely not a defense witness.

Someone asked Jen to clarify regarding Vernon Parker on twitter. She was at the hearing and said Juan said he intended to call Vernon Parker. She said he has mentioned other witnesses he plans on calling before and mentioned Vernon Parker along the same vein. She said the defense won't even mention their witnesses let alone allow it to be known who they're calling. She seems pretty confident in her assessment that he's a state witness.

Thanks MeeBee, very helpful info. :)

I haven't followed what's been going on here for the last year. Who's Vernon Davis?

It may have been ordered because the defense tried to quash the subpoena once they saw the witness list... that would explain the order and the order not to discuss other items under seal.

Can someone please explain this bit of legalese? How can you order someone to submit to a voluntary interview?

Is there a favorite twitter y'all are following?

Vernon Porter is a bishop from Travis's hometown of Riverside. I speculate that If Jodi tries to fault Travis for his interpretations of the church's views on premarital sex , Bishop Porter could clearly state the teachings he had on the subject with Travis.

I follow @WildAboutTrials @TrialDiariesJ and @scottsands - the #jodiarias is a lot to sift through but there are conversations with attorneys that you can sometimes miss (i.e. @jeffgdesq) but they sometimes go off on tangents :)

HTH!

Yes, Vernon Parker is a potential witness for the state, as analyzer said. In addition to clarifying what Travis learned, I think he'll also clarify how and what is taught to everyone, leaving little doubt that Jodi was not in the dark about pre marital sex because of Travis' misleading her.

And, as pointed out, he's from Riverside, where Travis apparently grew up. There's a possibility he knew Travis but that's just speculation on our part.

AND don't forget steely Michael Dunn is back on trial today!

Never mind. Jen might be wrong here.

"UPDATE RE VERNON PARKER -
It was confirmed to me that Parker was the bishop in Travis' ward from people who attended said ward. The fact that he's a State witness came from another page. That is now being disputed due to the latest minute entry. As it stands, I can't confirm if Parker is a State or Def. witness. I'm sorry for not checking that fact before posting - I trusted the source. It won't happen again. My apologies to you all.
Feel free to chime in with your thoughts/views.
Also, please let me know what you think of this page and if you'd like to see any changes, improvements etc. What can we do to make this a better experience for you, going forward?
EDITED TO ADD: Parker is a def. witness."

So confused. He's from Travis' old ward but the defense wants to call him?

MeeBee, do you know (or remember, I think I used to know lol) where Travis' Grandmother lived when he went to live with her?

ETA: I *thought* she was in Phoenix/Mesa and that's how he got there but my memory is cloudy on that.

So, I'm reading through the comments and it seems the only reason the State Vs JA page is saying he's a defense witness is because of the minute entry. I don't think anyone really knows but at this point I still think he will be called by the state and that the wording of the minute entry doesn't mean what we think it means. People are thinking the judge had to order him to talk to Juan. I don't think that's what it says. I don't think "order" means "order" here. Simply that the judge was making a note of the interview or something along those lines. Jen never said anything about Juan needing to get the judge to push for an interview as he did in the past when witnesses weren't turned over to him. But that he intends to call him. I still think he's a state witness.

I think you mean "Vernon Parker", not "Vernon Porter [sic]" or "Vernon Davis [sic]".

Travis's grandmother, who took him in from his unfit parents, lived in Riverside, California, where Travis was born and raised.

Oh, no. She lived in Cali and that's where she raised Travis and his siblings. He moved to Phoenix on his own.
