Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed to “kick the enemy out” of Russia’s territory after it emerged that Ukrainian troops were in control of dozens of Russian villages a week into Kyiv’s surprise cross-border incursion.

The scale of the incursion became clearer on Monday when Putin held a meeting with local officials from the border regions as well as some of Russia’s top security, government and law enforcement personnel.

The acting head of the Kursk region, Aleksey Smirnov, told Putin that 28 settlements in his region were now under Ukrainian control, adding that Ukrainian troops had managed to advance some 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) into the territory across a 40-kilometre (25-mile) wide stretch of the border.

Since the beginning of the “mini invasion” of Russia over a week ago, invading forces have been able to capture as much territory as Vladimir Putin managed to annex in Ukraine over the last eight months.

Knewz.com has learned that around 74 settlements in the Kursk region are currently under Ukrainian control, per President Volodymyr Zelensky.

''In a statement, Reuters said that the Hotel Sapphire, where a six-person Reuters crew was staying, was hit by a strike on Saturday.
"One of our colleagues is unaccounted-for, while another two have been taken to hospital for treatment," the agency said.''

"Three other colleagues have been accounted for. We are urgently seeking more information, working with the authorities in Kramatorsk, and supporting our colleagues and their families. We will give an update when we have more information," it added.

"What is happening now in Kyiv is unbelievable horror. Pray for us," Kira Rudick, a member of Ukrainian Parliament, said on social media. She later added, "What happened today? Nightmare."

This is an alarming announcement by Russia. As I reported in March, Russia came alarmingly close to using a nuclear weapon in Ukraine in 2022, and already has a lower threshold for nuclear use than the U.S.:“Russia is adjusting its protocols for nuclear weapon use in light of enhanced Western support for Ukraine, Russian state media outlet TASS reported, citing Russian government minister Sergei Ryabkov. Deputy foreign minister Ryabkov told TASS on Sunday that Russia is in the "advanced stages" of work to revise a key document outlining the "parameters and conditions" for the use of its nuclear arsenal. Under the current document from 2020, Russia has the greenlight to use nuclear weapons if an enemy "uses such weapons or other weapons of mass destruction" against Russia or if an enemy attack is launched which "threatens the very existence of the state.

"North Korea has started sending troops to fight with Russia in Ukraine, South Korea's spy agency has said as Seoul warned of a "grave security threat".

According to the spy agency, 1,500 troops have already arrived in Russia - with anonymous sources telling South Korean media the final figure could be closer to 12,000.

This comes as evidence mounts that North Korea is supplying Russia with ammunition, as recently demonstrated by the recovery of a missile in Ukraine’s Poltava region.

On Thursday, Ukraine's spy chief Kyrylo Budanov claimed that there were nearly 11,000 North Korean infantry troops training in eastern Russia to fight in Ukraine."
