Ha, i thought ding dong ditch was some kind of swear word that i had not yet become familiar with!

I'm not even going to tell you what it was called where and when I was growing up. It was a racist term.

My daughter said its rather rampant around here by way of the grapevine (SM) but I have yet to have anyone ring my door or come in my yard. In all seriousness, my dogs would tear them apart. Not to mention I have a sign on my fence warning that my home is protected by guns and I'm not afraid to use them. It's just a matter of time before people start shooting people. I live in South Georgia. We are rednecks lol. Most homes probably have a weapon. It would not be wise to be doing this crap around here. But I can say so far I have not seen any clowns in my area. Thankfully. Because number one I would have a heart attack. Number two.... the book IT. Number three the movie IT. Number four.... IT. Number five Pennywise.... I think you get my drift! hahahaha:laughing:I hate clowns. The book IT was my very first long read book that I read only for pleasure. I was in bed for 6 weeks following a surgery and asked for someone to buy me a book.... THAT is the book I was given. Needless to say I didn't sleep for 6 weeks but surely enjoyed reading it! I still have it somewhere around here bound with rubberbands due to the paperback tearing into 4 parts after my first reading.
(Seriously if someone is bed bound for 6 weeks I do not suggest a scary book! haha!)

It's amazing now how a craze can spread worldwide because of the internet. I wonder how many clowns there will be this Halloween. I hope nobody dies either a clown or a victim of shock from this craze.

It's amazing now how a craze can spread worldwide because of the internet

Hundreds to thousands of things spread worldwide everyday through the internet, this isn't the first, and it will not be the last,

However, the internet is only a tool, one should not blame the tool, one should blame the users of that tool,

But generally speaking (IMO) the internet has now come to the point where it is causing more harm to society, then it does good, it crossed this line many years ago (just IMO of course)

Here's a list!

Ding dong ditch (United States, Canada)
Chicky melly
Knock and run
Cherry knocking (United Kingdom, late 20th century)
Nicky nicky nine doors (Canada, United States)
Ring and run (United States)
Knock and nash (Cumbria, United Kingdom)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knock,_Knock,_Ginger

I love all the different traditions too, and it dawned on me the other day you guys probably don't celebrate Guy Fawkes Night (aka Bonfire Night) on 5th November like we do here. It's a big event with big bonfires, fireworks, food. "Remember remember the 5th of November, gunpowder treason and plot". I was also thinking about Mischief Night (4h Nov) which is meant to be a light-hearted chance for kids to do mildly naughty things, and before that Hallowe'en. I think there might be lots of clowning around in the UK over that week.

Thanks to the internet and "V For Vendetta" Guy Fawkes Night is becoming a thing here! :) Not nearly such a big deal as in the UK but I predict it will be the next Cinco de Mayo (which became another St. Patrick's Day).

And thank you for looking up the different knocking names. I grew up in the country so maybe that's why I never learned.

Canadian Tire has decided to trash all of its clown-related Halloween decorations amid creepy clown reports across Canada and the United States.

A spokesperson for the retailer confirmed to CP24 that the company made the decision to remove the items from store shelves across the country last week.

Clown pranks have been reported all across the country over the past month and in a news release issued Tuesday, Durham Regional Police said they have been called to 31 clown-related calls since the start of October

In a news release issued Tuesday, police in Oshawa said three teens were charged on Friday after allegedly trying to scare members of the public by driving recklessly while wearing clown masks.

i don't really see the point in this, all it will do is cause them to lose business,

its no different then them discontinuing selling motor oil, or tires....people just get it elsewhere,

its not what they sell, its how the product is used by the consumer, should they stop selling kitchen knives because a customer might stab somebody?

[h=2]Angry clowns confront store owner over 'racist' 'No Clowns Allowed' sign in London, Ont.[/h]
You know things are going downhill when even clowns can't take a joke.
On the other hand, maybe only clowns know how serious a joke can be.
A small sign put up as a joke in the City Lights Bookshop in London, Ont. sparked a three-ring circus of two angry clowns, two frustrated bookstore employees, and two bicycle-riding police officers Thursday afternoon.
The sign: a clown face with a diagonal bar across it. In other words, No Clowns Allowed.
The creepy clown scare is ruining the business of professional clowns, Blammo told The London Free Press.

"This sign I see here is profiling . . . all clowns are the same, all clowns are fear clowns, all of us are scary clowns. That's not true."
Why can't anyone take a joke anymore? Tarasewicz asked after the confrontation, back inside the store.

[h=1]It’s time to stop picking on clowns: Editorial[/h]‘Everyone deserves respect – even those of us with big red noses and oversize shoes.’
This page often speaks up for the marginalized, the despised and the misunderstood. We like to think we’re on the side of those who aren’t getting a fair shake.

Which brings us to clowns. They, it seems, are the newest minority facing hostility, fear and discrimination. The so-called “creepy clown” epidemic that started in South Carolina and is now being reported everywhere from Japan to Germany is bad news for actual clowns. Major chain stores are banning clown costumes and working clowns report they are losing business.

A Plea To McDonald's: It’s Time To Kill Ronald McDonald

Listen, McDonald's: No one has liked or even been somewhat amused by clowns in at least 40 years. And look at how you introduced Ronald to the world:

McDonald's, we're begging you: Kill Ronald McDonald. Permanently. Don't just put him on the shelf until this creepy clown meme dies down. If you really need a mascot to sell food that we already want, replace him with that lovable amorphous bruised scrotum, Grimace. He smiles, he looks nonthreatening, people like him. Hell, we'd be willing to settle for Mac Tonight at this point.

More scary clown pictures at the link, including one of Pogo.

Teen in clown mask brandishing a hammer stabbed in Germany
Oct 25, 2016

BERLIN — German police say a teenager’s attempt to frighten a group of young people by wearing a clown mask and brandishing a hammer on a Berlin street turned out very badly.

Berlin police said Tuesday that a 14-year-old responded by pulling a knife and stabbing the clown, only to find that the clown was a 16-year-old acquaintance.
