FWIW, if I'm not mistaken, David's brother owned or ran a cell phone and / or some type of home security business several years ago. Not sure if he still does as I've not lived in the area in a long time. It might explain the whole SIM card thing. It might have been a working phone without a SIM or David might have pulled the SIM card and was going to sell it to someone who had their own SIM card...? Just theories, I have no inside info as I have not been in contact in 10 years or more.

Bumping again for David! I can't find any info past Aug. 2017.
Who said David was heading to NC and why was he?

I have never heard of this case. I live 40-45 min east of Anderson. I'm familiar with Townville since it's by Lake Hartwell. I-85 is extremely busy with people traveling to Georgia and Alabama. Or traveling to NC. The crime in Anderson County has been high there in the last few years. IMO if someone was trying to rob him they definitely would've taken his BMW. Majority of people robbed in that area are shot and wounded/killed. I don't believe anyone put his body in Lake Hartwell. Typically when that happens the body is found within a couple months.

It’s odd that there is no more information about this case. I haven’t heard anything in the local news.
The red flag for me was the location of his car. I couldn’t imagine why it would be left on the interstate about 15-20 miles in the opposite direction from where it should have been.

Found deceased today. Seems to have been located about a mile (mile marker 29 to 30) from where his car was abandoned.
The Anderson County Coroner's Office said the skeletal remains found on Tuesday afternoon belonged to an Anderson man who went missing in 2017.

The remains were found on Interstate 85 near mile marker 29 by workers with the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

Chief Deputy Coroner Don McCown identified the victim as 37-year-old David Wayne Oakley from Anderson. Oakley was reported missing on June 4, 2017 after his vehicle had been found on I-85 north bound near mile marker 30 on June 1.

Oakley's remains were found in a wooded area while Department of Transportation crews were working to clear brush and trees near the interstate.

I just read through the thread. I used to live here but moved away in 2015. I find it incredibly odd that in this thread there were 4(?) male bodies found near I-85 before finding David’s. This whole case is so strange. I really hope his family get answers.

I saw this on the local news and remember when he first went missing. The area between mile marker 29-30 on either side of I-85 is not as developed as some other areas. It’s just north of Anderson and I would say it’s more rural.
If recall correctly there may be 2 or 3 lanes on both the Southbound and Northbound sides.
There is possibility a concrete divider there.
If his car broke down and he started walking at night, it would be dark in that stretch.

There is exit 34 (Hwy 29 and closest store is about a mile I think)
exit 27 (Hwy 81 and a few gas stations & Waffle House)
