Devon has been on my mind a lot today. I can't even begin to imagine the terror he experienced the last few minutes of his life.

In the obituary of this sweet angel it lists the mother's name as Amanda Reagan Smith.

Devon Chad Epps, 7, beloved son and grandson, went to his Heavenly Father August 12, 2007.

Devon was born in Greenville and attended Welcome Elementary School.

Surviving are his mother, Amanda Reagan Smith; his father, David Chad Epps; maternal great-grandparents, Joseph and Brenda Smith; paternal grandparents, Tommy and Patty Epps; his uncle, Corey Smith and his wife Crystal; and his cousin, Trent Smith. Predeceased was his maternal grandmother, Sonia Delaine Smith.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 16, 2007, at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 110 Old Rutherford Rd., Taylors. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with interment at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Red Cross in Devon's name.

Devon, you are such a joy in our lives. You will be greatly missed and remain forever in our hearts. Love, Mama and family.

WOW_there goes my blonde moment for today, thank you guys for tolerating all of my questions on this one. I have a 7 year old boy and just can't imagine....

Here is my theory:

Something bad happened to Devon before the car ride. Either his mom did it or someone she exposed him to did it. Either way, his mom was going to be in deep trouble, probably go to jail. She had to have a way to explain his death that would take responsibility away from herself, so she put him in the car and made up the story about the carjacker.

As far as I recall, police have not mentioned in public if time of death matches her story, but if she came up with the carjacker scenerio soon enough after Devon died, or if he was injured but not yet dead when she put him in the car, TOD could be too close to call, or LE is witholding the info.

Devon would have been starting school soon. Perhaps Mom was afraid that now that he is older, he might start talking to counselors or teachers about some type of neglect, abuse, or illegal activity.

IMO, the carjacker sketch is too detailed. It looks like a made-up character. If I were the Geico Guy, I would consider it disrespectful to cavemen everywhere!

Honestly, why would a knife holding car jacker smother a 7 year old with a pillow, and then flee on foot? Amanda claims the "perp" locked the car doors. What, there was no way you could break a car window, grab some rocks or sticks, branches, anything to fight him off your son? I think somebody's lying ... IMO

I also thought it would have been wierd to use a pillow when you have a knife. But then again, the pillow means you can run off and not have blood all over you.

True, but it took us a few days to consider that notion, and we aren't facing a noisy kid and freaked out Mom. It would be hard to imagine someone involved in a situation such as this to be going over every cost/benefit ratio at the time.

It's tough to know how I want it to turn out - overwrought Mom loses it, stupid Mom covering for someone else or freaky unidentified man running around killing kids for the heck of it.

It's my understanding that she only had one, the page you see with her and her friends drinking is a photo cache of her page before she changed it to a "memorial" type of page

Mine does too. But I think you can disable it if you don't want it to lock automatically.

You can tell that it's the same page by the URL. It's located under the 'add me, message me, etc. box'. When you create the URL, it's a one time deal. There's no going back and changing it. You can changed pretty much anything else on your page with the exception of that little URL. That's how I was able to figure out that it's the exact same person and profile as the 'party page.' It's only been updated with a new background, text, pics, etc., not an entirely new profile.
