GUILTY SC - Devon Epps, 7, murdered, Greenville, 12 Aug 2007

It was a Honda... from what news reports stated.

I have a Honda and it does not automatically lock the doors. The only way it does is if you use the key fob to unlock the doors and don't open a door within 15 seconds (or close to it). It will then automatically relock the doors, but not when you put it in drive or any other time that I have found.

I had hoped she confessed by now.

Something is not right about her story. Why didn't she just drive off when the man tried to get in the passenger side. Think about it... it is late at night... you and your child are in the car... someone approaches you and starts to open the car door. My gut reaction would to have been to speed off. He didn't have a gun, so he couldn't have shot at them, if she had.

Something just isn't right about this... :(

After reading some of the news articles again, I don't believe there was any knife welding stranger.
Greenville County Sheriff's authorities are investigating the death of a 7-year-old boy whose mother said a knife-wielding carjacker locked himself in her car and smothered her son with a pillow.

It makes no sense. Just like Darlie Routier's story didn't fly. Attackers don't attack/murder children and leave the adults to carry on!

Hey guys. My sister lives in the area and drove by to get a feel for the lay of the land. She has dial-up, so she isn't a memeber right now, but she emailed me this to post to all of you:

"When you exit of I-85, you turn right onto White Horse Road. This places you in an area of empty buildings such as a closed McDonalds. After about one block the mother could have turned right onto a Frontage Road. This scenery is hard to imagine from busy White Horse Road. It is country again immediately after turning, almost nothing but trees on each side of the road, no houses. About a mile from there, is a stop sign where you turn right on Jacobs road and there are no houses here either. If you turn or look left at the stop sign, you see where the boy was murdered. There is a drive way that is grown up and abandoned except for what looks like a lovers parking spot. This is all over grown with weeds. To turn left turn would place one going by where Devon was killed. This is about twenty steps from the stop sign. IF a man ran from this point, he would run through about a block of undergrowth and weeds and would be in the back parking lot of an older Waffle House that is set back off of the road. It would be an easy pick up spot if someone were waiting.

I too have my opinion about the mother but somehow I still hold out hope that a mother did not do this. A man serving time in prison for non support comes in contact with the type that would do anything for a fix. It would also be easy for a man to say he is not my kid why spend my life supporting the child of this woman. Hopefully some good will come from this and we can all be more aware of the needs of children and what goes on around us. Open our ears and eyes a little more and be helpful while a child is living. All you sleuths keep up the good work and hopefully this will be solved soon. I think it will be solved."

Thanks Reannan and sister. :)

Do we know why she was in a desolate area at that time of night?

And I guess there goes the theory of the man silencing the boy because he was afraid of being heard.....

Did this mom say in which direction the man supposedly ran?

ETA and if this was a 'kill for hire', then why wasn't she more hurt, why didn't she fight for her son's life.... I'm still not buying any of it....

For what it's worth, I don't buy the Mother's story either. Two big things stand out in my mind:

1. The method he was killed. Covering his face with a pillow so that you don't have to look him in the eye is something someone close to him would have done. Why would a stranger have done this? Especially one with a knife? OK, maybe he didn't want to get bloody, but why not just strangle him?

2. The description of the carjacker. Too detailed - it reminds me of Susan Smith.

I fear that the Mother, or her new boyfriend....probably her, killed him before they ever got to that spot in the road.

I keep hoping that I'll come back to this thread and there will news of an arrest.

I'm actually surprised that Amanda has not confessed yet.

I don't think anyone is buying her story anymore-and I'm really upset that LE hasn't been able to do something about it yet.

Thanks for the link ... if you scroll down to the comments it sounds like the locals are not buying her story at all.

If what this poster at the Greenvilleonline link says is true, the LE should make an arrest pretty soon!

"you know its funny to me she was on her way home from the beach and she had lost her cell phone.WELL ANYONE KNOWS WHEN YOU LOSE YOUR CELL PHONE THEY DISCONNECT THAT NUMBER AND ISSUE A NEW NUMBER!WELL HERE TO LET YOU GUYS KNOW THAAT WHEN MISS SMITH CALLS FROM HER CELL PHONE TO ANYONE. ITS COMES FROM THE NUMBER THAT SHE SUPPOSEDLY LOST,SO YOU TELL ME WHO IS LYING HERE!OH AND THE MY SPACE ADDRESS WENT ON TO THE NURSES MYSPACE AND SHE OR BROOK ONE CHANGED IT AS OF YESTERDAY!WAY TO COVER YOUR *advertiser censored* GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!oh and by the way greer guy get over it!if had you known her your opinion of her would be the same as everyone elses!!!!!!!!!!"

FWIW, her profile was updated on 8/15 at 7:49 am and it was last logged in to yesterday 8/16 although it doesn't give you the time.

They don't always issue you a new number. I lost my phone in Feb and had the people that found it using it. I had the phone disconnected, bought a new one and reinstated with the same number. The number works, the phone they found does not.

I heard that the police took her computer. I'm leaning more towards someone she knows that has her password as updating and changing the page.

I also think she killed her son. Not sure exactly why. Maybe for the fact that I'd be dead because I stepped in to keep my children safe. I'd have either been fighting or distracting anyone and telling my child to run. I'd have a heck of a lot more than just one injury. The perp would be dead, I don't care what I'd have to do.

I read in one of the comment sections the fire started from Devon's room where a blanket was placed over his lamp. Don't know if he put it there or what, doesn't say.

I am too Missie. :(

They must know things that aren't being made public. Maybe they are waiting on a confession from her.

BhamMama

 You got that right BhamMama.I would save my child or die trying.Whoever the person is who had my child trying to harm him/her in anyway...better hope to kill me asap because I would be on the person like stink on poop :furious: !

Well, I too know that if you lose a cell phone you can keep the same # ( I lost mine when I left it on the roof of my car and then proceeded onto a highway, lol).
I hope we do see an arrest soon-this is disgusting!
ETA: who leaves a blanket on a lamp anymore?!

I wonder if that was done intentionally to start a fire?
