Why would the Anderson County sheriff decline the FBI's help? He said he had enough resources at the present time! With a missing baby I'd think he would want to take advantage of any offers to help!! The tone of this article makes me think it's an ego thing on the part of the sheriff! There's a missing baby - TAKE THE OFFER OF HELP!

I don't think it i an ego thing with the sheriff. I think he just wants to keep amateur searchers away from any crime scenes they may stumble upon. He probably knows pretty much what happened and who did it---just needs to find the disposal site.

The 6-year-old boy was living with his grandmother.

Officials said they removed a 3-year-old from the home where the child disappeared and also took custody of a 6-year-old who was living with the missing baby's grandmother.

I don't think it is a good sign that they removed the child in the care of the grandmother as well. It could be that it was an informal situation, and she's not licensed for foster care, but don't they try for relatives/kinship care as a first resort? I hope this doesn't mean even uglier info is to come out :(

I've got the porch light on for you sweetie. This child has stolen my heart. I know I'm new, but I completely understand the passion you all have for these cases.

I do foster care in the state I live in. I know in a case like this if the grandmother didnt have some form of legal gaurdianship or court approved custody, the kids would all go to foster care until the situation is investigated and the people and their homes are interviewed, inspected and deemed appropriate and safe. Since there is already media spot light, can you imagine the liability of CPS if they left the older child and God forbid it wasnt a safe or appropriate living situation!? It also can take some time to get in front of a judge to sign an order or get family members up to date with education required for fostering even in kinship cases.

DSS just took the other children.

Two siblings of the 1-year-old Pendleton girl who has been missing since Saturday were placed in protective custody Thursday by the South Carolina Department of Social Services.

Leaona Wright’s 3-year-old sister and 6-year-old brother are being cared for by foster parents, according to DSS spokeswoman Marilyn Matheus. She did not provide any additional information about the children.

Leaona and her sister A’riel were staying with their mother, 22-year-old Kiara Sullivan, and her boyfriend, 33-year-old Travis Jones, in an apartment at the Edgewood Square complex on Cherry Street in Pendleton. Authorities investigating Leaona’s disappearance said Thursday night that they were previously unaware that Sullivan has a 6-year-old son.

So she was pretty young when she had the 6 year old. I wonder if he is her 1st born and if he's always lived with his grandmother? Do the 3 kids all have different father's?

So, another boyfriend is claiming that a child in his care simply vanished?!?! Wow, this guys story is by far the craziest one I've heard...a 1-year-old crawling out of the apartment! Hmm...that sounds legit! PLEASE! I'm seriously so fed up with all these cases where the mom leaves their precious child with a boyfriend, and something sinister happens...!:furious::furious::furious:

Did you hear about the 17 yo boy that violently kicked & stomped on his 20 yo girlfriend's 2 or 3 yo daughter cuz she wouldn't stop crying & "it was just too much too deal with"? These women seem so desperate to have a man in their life while in reality all they are getting are **** boys who only care about one thing & it's not about their kids!

ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A local activist group and the family of a missing one-year-old girl will hold a rally Tuesday night outside the Anderson County Detention Center, where the last adult to see Leaona Wright alive is serving time after being sentenced on unrelated charges.
...
“Leaona Wright disappeared Saturday, June 6th while in the care of Travis Jones,” Fant said. “Travis Jones holds the key to the answers about her disappearance.”

This is wonderful, but how is he gonna hear anything? There aren't open bay windows in the county jails and now that it's been made public, they will probably be escorted off the lot. I am getting this sick feeling that boyfriend is going to take the fall for both Mom and himself. Remember, Mom passed a polygraph. Although now, I don't know how credible those can be since it's plastered online how to cheat a polygraph.

Yep, when I saw that, Hoosgirl, I cringed. Normally, AFAIK, relatives are where CPS, etc., try to place children if possible, as we have seen. If they are already there, they make sure it's okay, get the paperwork done thru the courts and let things be. It may be that the 6 y/o went to the grandparent "unofficially." Anyway, I don't like it, either. They may have seen something that made a placement impossible, or the official paperwork, etc., had not been done. OTOH, we have seen cases where children were placed with relatives, and that placement had disastrous results. SMH. (Oh, I am so very fortunate not to have had to live a life like so many of these little children. Thank you, God.)

I can't help but wonder, in these type cases, what kind of effect those negative years of treatment/being juggled around/what-happened-to-Mommy has on those little minds.

Yes, QueenBea...I did! Sophia O'Neal....another gorgeous little girl hurt at the hands of a "boyfriend"! Absolutely heart -wrenching! You are so right about the ****boys! Makes my damn blood boil! It seems to be never-ending... !

The mother's interview at the beginning of this thread made me cringe. Her body language, facial expressions, tone of voice all reminded me of Susan Smith's pleas for her boys. The later interview I watched with her sitting on the curb - not sure what to think. The radio show interview - why isn't she sitting IN FRONT of that microphone pleading for information instead of off to the side and in the lap of her ex?

My opinion, is that there is truth leaking out all over the place in her interviews. And while I do not think she did anything to her baby, I do think she knows a lot more than she is saying and perhaps it's by police request that she isn't saying more.

The babysitter...Is he a POI or suspect yet? I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say , this is my first missing person's discussion post.

In my experience with former foster children in our family, there are some nasty people out there who will do terrible things to their children and step children to get drugs and/or money. I think it's possible that this baby was used in some way to obtain drugs/money and it led to a tragedy. It makes me so mad and sad that we can't give every child the happy upbringing they deserve. :(

He is not a POI. While we can all imagine what the story is here, we cannot discuss it in that fashion. His arrest is unrelated and the police have listed no POI, so off limits.
And :welcome:

Does "mom" have her hand over her eyes at 1:01 in the video to cover the fact that there are no tears?

"The parents do not want to do any more interviews with the media". WTF? Your child is "missing"! What parent wouldn't be grabbing every available microphone to get the message out?

This makes me so mad!! :stormingmad:
