For the first time, investigators have confirmed one of the last pings from Faith’s phone came from Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel in the Sumter National Forest in Walhalla.

“Faith’s phone last pinged in this area, and recent information was revealed that Faith was up here,” Faith’s aunt, Pamela Marcengill, said.

Investigators said someone found several pieces of Faith’s jewelry were found nearby, on Stumphouse Tunnel Road. Faith’s earrings, necklaces and bracelets were found scattered on the roadside.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office said investigators have thoroughly searched the mountains, but no other evidence has been found.

“If Faith’s phone last pinged here, that means she never came out of the mountains,” Marcengill said.

It means her phone was there, and she may have been traveling in either direction. If she and her phone were separated at some point it could be a long shot, but the hope is that she was still carrying it when it last pinged

Investigators with the coroner’s office and the Anderson Police Department responded around 7 a.m. Sunday and “were able to locate several more bones and items that will assist in the investigation,” according to the release.

“The skeletal remains appear to have been in the area for a long period of time and were scattered across a large area,” the release said. “The identity of the skeletal remains have not been identified and will require further investigation to include DNA analysis which could take several months and the assistance of an anthropologist.”
