And whatever they found, they found it so quickly. Makes me wonder if this is the genesis of the statement that the public is in no danger. Because whatever they found made it clear to LE that PM was targeted because of SS.

Or IMO maybe it was something they found on PM’s cellphone…like bragging about what they did?

Or, and I hate even to post this, but teenagers make videos of awful things sometimes.

...

"SLED has opened an investigation into the death of Stephen Smith based upon information gathered during the course of the double murder investigation of Paul and Maggie Murdaugh."

SLED opens own investigation into death of Stephen Smith

Crosby added that SLED is not furthering or reopening an investigation by another law enforcement agency, but its own investigation with "a fresh set of eyes," adding that this investigation will include evidence and statements gathered during previous investigations.

Information gathered.

Not evidence.

Could it have something to do with one of the cars they towed from the property? Jmo.

Yes…’information’ makes it seem like something intangible.

But my guess is that it had to be pretty significant. They aren’t looking into the housekeepers death…so it can’t be just based on local rumors. And pretty astounding, to announce it so quickly as this double murder investigation was just beginning.

I didn’t realize this yesterday…though others may have. Another civil suit may be in the works.

Murdaugh murder case: Documents allege conspiracy in fatal boat crash

If approved, Cook's lawyers would engage in the discovery process and gather more evidence before potentially filing a civil lawsuit. This would include asking these officers for testimony and discovery on the statements taken from the boat passengers on body cam or audio footage, DNA collection, telephone and other communications in the 24-hour period after the crash, as well as "certain investigative failures and deficiencies, and the deponents relationship to various persons involved in the investigation."

A mistake in LE’s report or another strange detail? Was a police officer on the scene when the 911 call was made?

‘At 10:07 p.m. on June 7, Sheriff’s Office dispatchers received a call about a double homicide at 4147 Moselle Road in Islandton, according to the SLED’s first statementafter the murders. It’s a remote property near the border with Colleton and Hampton counties.

Deputies arrived nearly 20 minutes later and found the bodies of Paul and Maggie Murdaugh, according to narrative reports. They secured the scene and marked shell casings, according to one report.

However, one supplemental report says one officer responded at 10:07 p.m., the same time the 911 call was received.

Could've been on patrol very close to the scene or just a typo in the report ...

Dispatcher - received call from 911 unless they are 1 in the same.

Dispatched - responded meaning he got the call.

Arrived - is what I would expect - location

I'm curious about the timing of the potential civil suit by Connor Cook. Even if he's correct that law enforcement was improperly influenced/involved in a conspiracy to make it appear that Connor might have been the one driving the boat, why would be bring this action now? I could see him bringing the case before Paul's death, due to concerns that Paul and/or his lawyers might have tried to point the finger at Connor at trial in an effort to introduce reasonable doubt to a jury. But dimce Paul is now dead, there won't be a trial on the criminal charges, and the civil charges aren't concerned with who was driving the boat (AM and BM are being sued for facilitating PM's purchase of alcohol, which he drank and shared with the others, not on the grounds that PM was driving the boat). And although there is some vague question in the initial statements and even in the depositions as to who was driving the boat at the time of the accident (most of the others believed Paul was driving but couldn't say for sure), no one has ever sought to hold Connor responsible for Mallory's death. So why would Connor seek to bring this case now?

Murdaugh murder case: Documents allege conspiracy in fatal boat crash

Klopp testified that Randolph kept telling Paul to "keep his mouth shut," and noticed that Alex was trying to get into the rooms of the other survivors. Klopp said he overheard Alex on the phone say, "She's gone, don't worry about her."

– Attorneys questioned law enforcement as to why, at times, they didn't activate their body cameras, record audio statements, take photos during DNA collection, or give sobriety tests.

Maybe he's afraid that these murders may get pinned on him so he's making the first move.
