I found the death certificate for them in California. It listed their address as 942 North Croft Ave in Los Angeles and there was an informant of death by the name of Joe Ayeroff who resided at 1066 So. La Cienega Los Angeles. Said that Edward was a salesman with Sears. Referred to accident as Auto vs Truck. Cremation was chosen and done at Glasband Mortuary

Thankyou, that is interesting as it does tie in with a 1940 census that has the Ayeroffs living in LA California with a Joseph 28 occupation Salesman and a Samuel 24 biology teacher. Both would be brothers of Ann.

Where there any children named on the death certificate?

There were no children listed. There is a death for Joseph in 1999. He may have had family. Listed his death as occuring in Los angeles. I will research more and see who confirmed his death, which may be one his children and then you can reach out to them.
 
ok here is some more that I have discovered. Joseph is the brother to Anna, born in NY 8/16/1911 and dies in Los Angeles 12/11/199. His wife name was Bea and he was survived by 2 children - Fred and his spouse is Dr Lilly Szyedlo and another son by the name of Ken married to Jan (?). He was also grandfather to Daniel, Ulia (?), Lauren and Stephanie. You may want to go back and see if you can find any of them and see what they know about the adoption of your mother. There was another brother named Samuel born in Utah 1916 but nothing on him really past 1940 census.
The courthouse in Stockton California is mentioned as the place for the cremation/documents. There may be more information there. I don't live in California so not sure how much I can help there.

Great information 4SAM , I feel it would be worthwhile to track the family, they might have a photo of Sherry as a child or teen in family albums, I also mentioned earlier that there is a family tree of the Ayeroffs in Ancestry that could be contacted. I feel contact should come from family, I wonder how buttons06 feels about this? I’m happy to keep digging :sleuth:
 
buttons06 I have the address, email and phone for Frederick Ayeroff and Dr. Lillian Szydlo if your interested in contacting them. Have you any new information on your search?

Samuel died in 2000, there are other potential siblings of the Ayeroffs to track however Joseph would seem to be the first lead to pursue being a informant to the death certificate at the time.
 
Samuel was married later in life and I can’t find any children for him. I did find another sibling of Anna, a Alex Harvey Ayeroff who had a child Jeffrey who also lives in California. Also children of Anna other brother Jacob (Jack). Possibly another avenues to follow, thinking more of potential family photos for you buttons.
 
Sorry all for posting too much, just feel on a roll here...
First wondering if I’m correct why Edward Epstein ( and Anna ) changed their name to Smith between 1930 and 1940, my thoughts are
1. Jewish connection (war)
2. Draft was happening in 1940’s
3. To adopt?
4. Well don’t know, doesn’t seem to be a crime family.

Any one have any other ideas?
 
There was another website that I located dedicated to Ayeroffs. It appears that they are Jewish. But wasn't sure whether to put that info on here. And yes there is a ton of information on ancestry. com

Hi! This is sherry’s daughter buttons06, the search that you are referring to indeed was at 103 Bennett st greer sc the search for the missing lady from Ga was up off highway 14 in greer. I was personally involved in the one for my mom. My husband and I paid for most of that search because we indeed did have 4 very reputable cadaver dogs hit on the site but after 2 days the search crew involving the police decided to call it quits!! We had to excavate a well, not the normal dig. Sherry and George did indeed marry in Georgia, I have their marriage license and application (copy) I’m able to get on the sight again so happy to answer any questions! Thank you all!!
 
I do not have anything new, I suffered a subarachnoid aneurysm back in December and came very close to death so I had to put my search on hold for a while but I am up and about and plan to pick it back up. Yes, I would love anything that you have on them, it never hurts to check it out. Thank you so much for your interest and your help.
 
I will try anything and you please feel free to dig a much as you like, I look a lot but I just do not have the sleuthing skills that some of you guys have, I’ve gained so much potential new information from you guys and I’m extremely thankful

This is buttons06 sherry’s daughter, I am sorry for the delayed response but I had a subarachnoid aneurysm rupture back in December and came very close dying, so things were put on hold but i am back up and at it. I look almost daily to see if I can find anything new but I unfortunately do not have the super sleuthing skills that many of you have so therefore I am always happy to get any possible new leads or information.
