Deputies searching for missing, endangered woman.

Theresa Ortiz, 67, was last seen at approximately 6 a.m. Wednesday leaving her home on Hilton Head Island, and her family is concerned for her safety because she has numerous medical conditions, deputies say.

Investigators say they found her vehicle in the Burke’s Beach parking lot but they have not found her. They believe she may be on foot in the Burke’s Beach area.

Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Bob Bromage said search efforts continued Monday for Ortiz.

The Sheriff’s Office received information Thursday that an empty pill bottle with Ortiz’s name, along with flip flops, were found on the beach Wednesday, Bromage said.

It has previously been reported that Ortiz has numerous medical conditions.

Oritz left her husband a note that she was going to walk on the beach. Her vehicle was found in beach parking but she has not been seen since she left her home. A pair of her sandals were found on the beach at the high tide mark.

Are there ring cameras in her neighborhood and security cameras at the beach parking where her car was found?
FlipFlops at water edge sounds like a swim in her clothes but empty pill bottle? Sounds strange.

Did she knock herself out with medication and fall asleep on the beach to be washed out to sea? That's what it kind of sounds like.

If this was suicide it was simple, clean & done but is there proof that she left the house the morning of July 1 and that she was the person that parked her car at the beach?

Search continues. A SAR group from Maryland called We Are Their Voices is reported to have been helping for about a week.

“We are still actively searching,” Sheriff’s Office Major Bob Bromage said Sunday.

That includes continued searches of the shoreline and water by boat and helicopter.


Bromage also said the circumstances around her disappearance continue to be investigated as a missing person.

Volunteers also have been helping the family, including family friends who rented a helicopter for a day to assist in the search.

We Are Their Voices, a Maryland search and rescue team, has been helping with the search for about a week.

On July 2, police got a tip that an empty pill bottle and flip flops belonging to the missing woman had been found near the high-tide mark the morning she went missing.

Our team arrived in Hilton Head Island, SC on Tuesday July 14, 2020 aiding day and night combing the beaches and marsh land to try and give this family closure. Upon the teams departure on Saturday July 18, 2020, we were unable to find Mrs. Ortiz.

An article I hadn't seen with a very sad interview with Theresa's husband. IMO, reading this, she had some very serious medical condition(s). Maybe it just became too much to deal with.

Ortiz says he felt worry the moment he realized his wife was missing because she suffers from a number of medical conditions.

“She was a very depressed person, and besides that, she has some very, very bad stomach issues. She couldn’t eat any more. She could not even drink water," Ortiz said.
