Tania Flowers, family to one of the boaters, says the boat could have drifted up to the Charleston coast.

The vessel was supposed to port Tuesday or Wednesday to meet their shipment but never showed up.
 
The Coast Guard is searching for a fishing boat 80 miles from the Brunswick shore.

U.S. Coast Guard watchstanders are also searching the three crew members, whom they identified as Dalton Conway, Caleb Wilkinson and Tyler Barlow.

Watchstanders received a report Friday from the owner of the fishing vessel Carol Ann stating he hired a crew of three who did not return on Wednesday as scheduled, the agency reported. The boat’s owner told Coast Guard officials the crew extends fishing trips to maximize their catch but was growing concerned because the last communication with the crew had been six days ago.

 
Speaking to ABC, he reiterated how the boat was well-equipped with life vests, a satellite, and distress beacons needed to stay in communication in case of an emergency, and that no such alerts have gone off.

'We know that the boat had an electronic beacon onboard, which we call an EPIRB, and we know that beacon has not activated,' Erickson explained as the search concluded its fourth day.

It's my understanding if this beacon went into the water, or " sank", it would be activated. Not 100% so just moo.

Frank DelRosso, commander of the Coast Guard sector based in Charleston, South Carolina, said in a statement.

Barlow's father, Chris Barlow, said he suspects the boat became disabled and drifted into the Gulf Stream, which swept it far to the north.

“Tyler will not stop fighting, I don’t think Caleb or Dalton will either,” Chris Barlow told WTLV-TV. “Their chances of survivability are extremely great. We just have to find them.”
 
"Our intent is to fly from Saint Simons Island to Maine," said Chris Barlow, father of Tyler. "At this point, we're about 90% sure that we have a plane secured for (Saturday) morning."

Barlow and his friends Caleb Wilkinson and Dalton Conway left on a fishing trip two weeks ago from a Brunswick dock. They were supposed to return last Wednesday, but never showed.

That led to the U.S. Coast Guard conducting a lengthy searching spanning 94,000 square miles, an area larger than the states of Georgia and South Carolina.

"We believe, due to the information that was provided in the beginning of the search, basically that the Coast Guard search was a little bit behind," Barlow said.

The Barlow family decided to try to hire its own plane and a team of photographers after the Coast Guard called off its search Thursday night.

The above comment snipped by me for brevity. I would be curious as to what airplane they secured for this. The gulf stream is typically 62 miles wide to 800-1200 foot long according to Wikipedia. Most smaller twin engine airplanes (non turboprop) have a range of about 1400-1500 (or less) miles. That range is also calculated at optimal cruising altitude, NOT the minimum altitude of 1000 feet as planned. So they would likely have to make several flights with refueling . Larger aircraft with more range normally fly at speeds that make searching more difficult. I remember searching for a swimmer swept out to sea years ago as a volunteer pilot flying a small PA18 single engine. Even as low and slow as I could get, it was really hard to see things on the water (though obviously, a 32 foot boat would be much easier to spot). Wishing them only the best as the search goes forward.

Thanks for highlighting this - this news article had a statement from one of the parents of the missing men that the type of device they had on board needed manual activation. Coast Guard ends search for 3 Georgia fishermen missing at sea for nearly 2 weeks
 
The aircraft the family secured to do the search today was pictured on FB with family members. I can't link that but I was able to get the aircraft registration number from one of the media pictures. If this is allowed (attn mods - thanks) here is the flight track for today, they made the information public (flightaware allows you to set it for private). They covered a lot of territory but at the cruising altitude they were at, seeing anything other than maybe the boat with the naked eye would be really difficult but they had some pretty amazing camera equipment set up. Alexis Youngman, sister of Dalton Conway mentions that the families have contacted Georgia leaders such as John Ossoff, Raphael Warnock, and Buddy Carter to persuade the Coast Guard to resume the search.

“If we haven’t found anything, that just means that there is something to find, and somebody has to be looking for them for them to be found,” said Youngman. “If somebody does see them, they need to know that we are looking for them and that they need to come home, that is all we can hope for right now. That is all we can hope for is that they are going to show up, and I am sure they will.”

Along the whole southern Atlantic Coast.... people are anxiously hoping for a miracle here.... All news stations, and a massive number of facebook posts are dedicated to the three fishermen, and their boat, The Carol Ann.

A lost boat just brings out a huge shared sense of misery....and hope, no matter what.
