We have NO confirmation of casaulties at the Holiday Inn in Earth City yet. Pattonville Fire is on scene.

The 2 fatalities were a woman and her baby who died when their car was tossed.
10 semi drivers had to be rescued from their big rigs after they were tossed.
30 families broke into a gas station to take cover.

St. Louis metro area is currently under four tornado warnings with three tornadoes on the ground. KMOV reported a Holiday Inn in Earth City, MO was hit, where multiple injuries have been reported.

There is also damage to a Hollywood Casino and buildings in a research park.

They also report the St. Louis tornado is 15 minutes away from Belleville, IL, across the Mississippi River, where officials are hurriedly shutting down a parade.

Lady reporter saying "multiple tornadoes in a row". She was frightened because they couldn't tell what was going on, that is, what was coming and going or how close they really were to the activity. She said something about wobbling. I guess that means the tornadoes were wobbling.

Rain wrapped tornadoes in Illinois. Ramsey Lake State Park area.
That's a new one for me.

Prayers to one of my best friends ever who lives in Norman, OK. This is heartbreaking.

Anderson Cooper is on now. I-35 people need to try to get off - I think he means now because there's a mess up ahead if they keep driving.

Still raining hard in areas.
AC just said this was his conversation with the Mayor from an hour or an hour and a half ago. Sorry.
The road conditions are now though. People need to get off the Interstate.

Thoughts and prayers to all in the storms paths. I can't imagine how scary this is.

Worst has passed St. Louis. Still worried about further east of town.
Storms were moving 55 miles an hour.

You said it!

We avoided a rain wrapped tornado once since we had a weather radio, otherwise we would have driven right into it.

I wondering if wfgodot is okay?

Going to bed. Lyndsey, boyfriend and their dogs are okay.

Back and shoulder is killing me.

Prayers to all in the path of these storms.

Glad they are okay, Show Me. Get some rest. Keep your eyes and ears open just in case!

I just checked. Wfgodot is not onsite at this time.

Praying for Wfgodot and our other members who may face danger as well as their loved ones. :please:

I also have a good friend and her husband who live outside of St. Louis....hoping they and wfgodot and all others will come through this terrible night safely!

I don't understand where all this water is coming from? I mean, is that all from rain, and causing reports of 4 feet of water in some places?

How in the world does that happen in just a couple of hours?

What am I missing?

The area I live in isn't particularly prone to flash floods, but I got caught in one a few years back. It had been a particularly rainy year, and saturated ground (or, as stated above, ground that has been hit by drought) + lots of water in a short period of time + parking lots/roads/overloaded storm sewers = flooding. I was stopped at a red light in front of my house, and while waiting for the light to change, all of a sudden it went from normal rainy street to over a foot of water rising fast. I didn't think I'd make it through the intersection so I turned and tried to get to higher ground, but even up a hill there was just tons of water coursing down the streets--scary as hell (although in other parts of town, students were canoeing and kayaking in the streets).

About a week later, we had another deluge, and three people were killed right at that same intersection (shortly after I drove through it, too)--lightning hit a power line right over a bus stop, dropping a power line into flood water. A woman and her child were killed (her other child made it onto the bus), as was someone who got off the bus to try to help--if I recall right, the bus driver tried to help too, and was shocked right back onto the bus. Again, if I recall correctly, it was a storm that dropped 2 to 3 inches of rain--but when that falls in an hour, that's a heck of a lot of water with no place to go.

Even in areas not normally at risk for flooding, the heavy rains that come with these kinds of storms can be a huge risk.
