PHOENIX -- Convicted murderer Jodi Arias has big plans for life in prison.
Arias shared them with the jury on Tuesday.
"In prison there are programs I can start and people that I can help and programs that I can participate in," Arias told jurors.
According to Barrett Marson, who once worked for the Arizona Department of Corrections (DOC), Arias doesn't have a clue what she's talking about.
"It's not like here at Sheriff Joe's jail. She will not be mixing with the inmates very much," said Marson.
During most of Arias' four years in the Maricopa County Jail she was housed with 32 other inmates and allowed to mingle with them for several hours a day.
Just recently she was moved to a maximum security cell in the jail and can no longer talk to other inmates.
Arias also told the jury she wants to teach other prison inmates how to read.
"I would like to start a book club or reading group," Arias said. She then went on to say, "If I get permission I would like to implement a recycling program."
Marson told 3TV the Perryville Women’s Prison, where Arias is heading to already, have both a recycling program and several books clubs.
Marson said Arias won’t get out her cell much because she will be a maximum security inmate or a death row inmate.
If sentenced to life in prison it would be several years before she can talk to other inmates and that's if she's proved to be a model inmate.
Andrew Wilder with the AZ DOC sent us this statement when we asked about Arias’ proposed prison programs.
"There are so many variables that prevent a simple explanation. But it's perhaps best to understand that, either way, an inmate would begin their sentence at a maximum-custody level -- which is a highly-restricted experience. For example, meals are served in the cell, as are phone calls, visitation is non-contact, recreation time and their ability to interact with other inmates is highly limited.
Only after a period of several years, along with a clean record of demonstrated model behavior, mental health, security, and other considerations, could an inmate even potentially work their way to a level of lower custody that would result in fewer restrictions (group recreation, shared cell, in-complex work opportunities, etc). Again, such possibilities would only come at a time far down the road," said Wilder.

I just saw this. BBM

I wonder if her attorneys filled her head with candy or if she dreamed this baloney about "book club" and "recycling program" all by herself. She thinks she's joining a sorority! Can't wait to check out the soirees and debutant balls. Does she understand that state prison is a whole different <crazier, older, meaner, crazier, crazier> kettle of fish.

<this was a rhetorical question...>

I'll join in on the times. It's 5:30pm in Japan now. I don't work tomorrow, so I'll definitely be staying up to see this thing through. DP!!!
Hello! I noticed your location - I just finished eating unagi pie from a friend in Shizuoka! I'm in Australia, trying to catch up with the latest in the case.

The talk of a recycling program doesn't make any sense to me. Our trash company gives the community a better deal if people recycle. Its been part of the system for years. Why wouldn't a large place like a prison be participating in something like that?

FRUITY! I greatly admire your name and picture :) Unagi pie, huh?? haha, do you like it? They say unagi has excellent health properties, but I stay away. haha. Does your friend live in Hamamatsu then?

What happened to the verdict watch thread?

They weren't able to figure this out without the Joan of Ark of murder. Next time It comes into court she have on body armor and riding an old nag!

:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

So the jury aren't deliberating today?

They are, but my guess is that the mods will open up the deliberation thread as soon as deliberation starts today (or for me, tomorrow). I think, it's jmo.

I think the Judge said 10 a. m. Arizona time, which is 1 eastern time. When I go out into real world and mention this case I don't run into anyone paying attention to it. Its certainly not like the Anthony case. IMO

I do love unagi pie! Very much. I think the amount of eel in it must be tiny because I can't taste it at all! So I don't think I'd be getting many of the health benefits :lol:

Beyond Belief, trust me...nobody around me in this entire country has a clue or would even care about this case. Thank god for WS!...:rocker:

Hello all!

I'm feeling optimistic especially after reading our dear KCL's posts. This jury will not want to be hung after all the hard work they've put in for so many months now. It's a difficult decision to sentence anyone to death but in this case it is the right thing to do and they know it.

Let's stay hopeful....:please::skip:

haha, yeah. The amount of unagi (eel) is minuscule. Just a gimmick to sell an edible souvenir! But they are tasty :lick:

The only thing that calms me down at times like these is hot milk or Congee. Mmmmm Congee...

Did you see that the Japanese press was at the courthouse yesterday? They said they were there because it would be good information on how to be a juror. Something about Japan just started having jury trials back in '09.

I wonder how the jury will feel if either hung or Life and JSS gave her parole for whatever reason (I HIGHLY doubt imo!) then they begin to find out the things we know that they don't i.e. faked pedophile letters, interview of Mom and Dad, Stabby's plea offer/threat, interview after verdict etc.?

Would any have regrets? I didn't watch the CA case but I can imagine some of those jurors must feel haunted.

I wish we knew more abt the jurors. I think their own personal life experiences will play a large role on how they will vote.
