TODAY IS THE DAY.... I must step my foot into Wal Mart!! That store is one store I wish I could avoid, but, I have put off and put off going into the 'pit'. Just some things I must buy at Wal Mart. No other store around I can get it from unless I drive 30 miles from here.

Wish me luck and hopefully... I will not turn up on the 'People from Wal Mart" site!

I try not to shop at Wal-Mart, but sometimes I have a lapse. Then I feel shame...lol. I hate that so many mom 'n pop businesses in smaller towns have gone belly up when a Wal-Mart comes storming in. :( There's a rumor we're getting one in our town of less than 5,000...man, I hope not.

OH MY!!! MRS DOOD Just noticed your new avatar...wooohoooo! Sexy Momma

I thought it was a riot, too. :D Before I got back on the treadmill in January, I sort of resembled the Venus of Willendorf, but now I've lost most of my "menopot." Still, the belly dancing Rubens lady is someone I can relate to...ha!

The Venus of Willendorf; source: Wikipedia

Sort of the poster child for post-menopausal, full-figured crones :)

I hate shopping, too. The bigger the store, the more I hate it. There are some big (football field size) grocery stores around me, but I prefer the smaller, older ones.

I know there are some Walmarts & Costcos somewhere around here--out in the suburbs--but I've never thought it worth my time to venture that far out of my comfort zone.

Probably more about my shortcomings than the stores themselves. I get so sensory-overloaded with big enclosed spaces. Weirds me out. I'd rather do stuff online...

I do my grocery shopping at a older smaller store. The prices may be a tad bit higher, but the quality of their meat is A-1!! I know all the workers and all are very friendly :)

You are just a "DOOD" lol...Hugs right back at ya!

Me too D. but the one answer the other day was wrong. No reflection on poster (whoever) as she finds the answers. D Day is not June 5 1944 it is June 6th 1944. We went to Church that day to pray for their safety. Another "D Day " in France not spoken of was Aug. 15 1944..Operation Dragoon. Led by American Infantry men and British soldiers they invaded Southern France. Cannes near the beachheads. My Dad came in at Marseilles. The beginning of the end for Germany , hit on two fronts . Hard!! All these men had cleaned up Italy. May Hitler and henchmen krauts roast in hell forever.

Off here and going see what drama is going on at FB...later my dear sidebar friends :)

To CJ and others who were heartbroken about the loss of the baby robins:

This morning as I was getting into my car, I heard one of our neighborhood pileated woodpeckers going at it. He seemed really close by, so I wanted to see if he was pecking on my (wooden) house. I've seen them pecking on trees, but the noise sounded as if he was actually pecking on my house!

The pecking stopped, and I never did catch sight of him, but in the meantime I noticed a bird's nest atop one of my porch pillars, and two cute/ugly baby birds peeking out from the top. As I stood there (a good 20 feet or so below the nest), a BIG robin flew in and perched on the crest of the roof just above the nest (another 6-8 feet up), staring me down. Certainly, I was far enough away that I posed no threat, so I guess I was being surveilled as an intimidation measure.

Sorry I don't have pics (I am never prepared!), but I hope you can take solace that these little birdies seem safe and protected. They looked to be about 3-4"(?) tall, so not so young, I'd guess.

I'll try to send a pic later!

We didn't have a Walmart in our city until 1991,and it was the biggest thing since sliced bread. And it's was in a Dallas suburb. So, when we built the cabin we'd stop in Sulpher Springs where they had a Super Walmart, and stock up for the weekend. Or we could go to Mt. Pleasant to theirS the next morning. Then they super sized the Walmart in Gilmer, Longview, and Minolta (dang auto correct) ,and finally the one in our city. What was once cool because you shopped in one place, has become to big. Thank God for cellphones. DH and I had walked back and forth looking for each other all over the store. But then we became grandparents and dh started doing all the shopping. I haven't missed it. I was in our Walmart last week for the first time in over six months. Of course it was three in the morning, where you don't have family gatherings in the middle of the aisle, and children laying on the floor crying and their parents clueless. I love shopping for fresh veggies at Fiesta down the street. All fresh up from the valley and cheap. Leaf lettuce hags been 99 cents for years.

BBM: I don't think the one South of us in Prescott showed up till 1998, then it moved 5 miles East, then another one popped up in Prescott Valley, about 15 miles east of that. Then a Home Depot showed up, then another, Costco, and Lowe's.
There is absolutely nothing 15 miles South in Chino Valley that's BIG, unless you count Safeway, and they put all the small grocers out of business.
The competition was good, for the most part, hardware stores made it cheaper to buy in Chino, when all was said and done, but Safeway is atrocious with their prices. Better to go into Big Town and go to Fry's.

Anything worth buying is a 45 minute drive from here.:gaah:
I also do the shop after midnight deal if I have to go to Walmart. Home Depot and Lowe's are good in the middle of the week around dinner time, you get about 7 sales people asking you if you need help and it's hard to shake them! :scared:If they're young, I ask if they know where the dielectric unions are..........and they never come back, lol! Sometimes if you just put something impressive, like a big ol' Husqvarna chain saw with a 32 inch bar, they'll get intimidated and leave you alone......................

I thought Peter Graves and James Arness (TV's Matt Dillon of Gunsmoke) were brothers?

But speaking of Mission Impossible, that was such a good show, with a killer theme song!

Love Peter Graves- too bad he smoked! But I get Mission Impossible reruns of the early series on ME TV channel, Sunday nights! I used to watch it and Get Smart and James Bond spy movies with my dad when I was little. Unfortunately I don't think my dad would still remember to share those memories with me now, but I make DH & DD watch them sometimes! Best part was when they ripped their faces off.

Also, DH agrees that Peter Graves was James Arness's brother, not John Wayne's. He does resemble James Arness more facially.

Yes, I was double multi tasking and didn't think that thought through all the crap in my head, as I was holding a bottle for a hungry lil girl that couldn't wait for us to pick her mama up at work, while her great uncle kept tickling her feet, and my sister was driving my suv for then first time.

You are so bad. My dh told a fellow worker that was going to the stock room for florescence light tubes to ask the stock clerk if they had any fallopian tubes in stock. I told he he should be ashamed.

METV has become my favorite channel, but mostly because it runs my all-time favorite show EVER, "The Rockford Files." To me, James Garner will always be the epitome of the perfect man.

I also credit that show -- in part -- for my love of "sleuthing" (although--wow--that looks really lame and embarrassing when I see it typed on the page :/). But the stories were so well-written and believable. Very good acting, as well.

For me, too, there's also a connection to the past. I used to watch Rockford Files with my mom. When I went to visit her recently, I was crestfallen to see the obvious signs of dementia (clearly, I'd been in denial). But when I brought up The Rockford Files, she came to life. She remembered. She smiled. That did my heart good.

Good evening everyone. :seeya:

I shop at Walmart a few times a month because it has the best selection, at the best prices, and it’s that simple (since there are limited alternatives in our very small "city" -unless you want to pay for the same items at exorbitant prices at the other stores here). We have some poor people in this little farm town and I think Walmart is a God send to the poor. Before Walmart came here, there wasn't a lot of jobs. Our Walmart is an employer for a lot of people.

I love seeing the old and disabled greet me at the door at Walmart because I know they were given a job they would not have otherwise (and some people need to work even tho' they are "retired").

Our Walmart is opened 24 hours, which is great for the working person, IMO and has groceries, gardening supplies, and whatever you need to live (I was looking for an appliance lightbulb at Lowes and they didn't have any, but Walmart did :) ). Our little city closes up their sidewalks early- except for the bars/resaurants. We have 2 colleges here and all the students shop at Walmart. We also have a lot of non-profits that take care of people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities and they are out teaching them how to shop and spend money in our Walmart. It's all good, IMO. My son and I stopped at the Walmart McDonald's this past week for lunch and there were a group of intellectually disabled people eating there with their mentor (God bless her and them)- noisy, happy people. :)

All the workers are very nice also.

Maybe I'm just lucky and have a good Walmart (or maybe it's just having a good attitude about all kinds of people in this world ).
People hated when Walmart came to town, but everyone shops there. :sheesh:

But what do I know- I think Walmart is a good thing and I hate to leave my house to shop- anywhere- now that I'm older anyway. Frankly, I’m not all that sophisticated- just a poor slob that grew up in the Bronx- raised by immigrant parents. Guess I'm just a Walmart kind of person and that's not all that bad in my eyes. :)

That reminds me of a particle board shelf I once had and used it to hold some stereo components.

Learned a few valuable lessons about Particle Board Shelves.

5-Particle board weighs 10 X times the weight of normal wood.
As you try to lift it, always be sure the kids are not around as you curse and yell the following:
"Why the he## is this crappy junk so darn heavy?"

Hey everyone, Good morning :-) I hope everyone is doing better, I sure do miss coming here and reading all the time like used before Benji. So yesterday I took my little Benji to the Vet. He weighs 14 lbs, one lb less than Miss Molly, he's taller than Miss Molly, he's 3 months old. Dr. B says she thinks he's Shepard (not lab)and Terrier mix. She says he'll weigh about 30+ lbs, and be pretty tall :/ I love Shepards, we used to have one many many moons. So are Labs, either way Benji' is here to stay. I hope you all have a peaceful day.

I adopted a dog, my Buddy, from a friend of mine. Buddy's mother was a shih tzu

BUT: everyday when my husband came home from work, he said "that dog is just growing and growing"

And he looked just like this (and about 60 lbs to boot when he was full grown  )

We loved him anyway. :heartbeat:

Good luck with your Benji.

My Labby wandered in while I had the picture of the Labby in curlers up on the screen and she looked at it!

Ya can all keep the Shitzu, this is my kind of dog, Y/N! Beautiful!
