The Weather Channel just said it's Snowman Day. :snowman:

Of course we need an article to go with the pic (y'all know me  )

A Really Short History of the Snowman

"Well, all right; snowmen and snowwomen have been around for much longer than the memories of anyone alive today. In fact, you’d need to have a Methuselahan memory to even approach the dim early days of characters made almost entirely out of snow.

The problem is that in any given year, we hardly get to know the denizens of the front lawn or sledding hill before they’re off in the vapor; usually without a fare-thee-well. Unlike the season of their visiting, there are no flyers trumpeting their pending arrival, no countdown to their visit and no TV Bio’s to give us a deeper understanding of their heritage and ethnicity.

It’s kind of like the people you know from church – you see them every week (perhaps?) but you don’t know their name, where they live, how they earn a living, or much of anything except that they sleep during the sermon and always dodge out before the final prayer.

The English word history comes from a French word that means “story”. If you were to ask, “what’s the story of the snowman?” our response would be necessarily short because we haven’t spent enough time to gather the facts...."

And then there's the "hillbilly" snowman...

Good morning my friends
It's cold here in the ville today. 12 degrees :cold:
Good to see everyone is finally feeling better. Coffeej, I wish I had some of your energy, just a tad though...I didn't realize steroids made you hyper. Back when my youngest was in high school she had a very bad upper respiratory infection and her Dr. put her on an antibiotic and Prednisone. By the 2nd day, she felt better and was ready to go back to school. I dropped her off at 7:15, and 3 hours later she called me to come and pick her up, as she was having a reaction to the drug. It was in the middle of winter and she looked like she had a very severe sunburn. She felt like it too, her skin was on fire. Scared the crap out of me. She now makes sure that every Dr. she see's knows sure she is allergic to it.

My husband who had cancer said it made him feel better. He took a half of pill everyday. I had to get the pharmacist to cut them in half for me because the pill was so little I couldn't do it. It sure gave him an appetite that's for sure. He would eat an entire pack off Klondike bars in one day. He gained ALOT of weight, especially in his face, and the back of his neck. He certainly didn't look like a cancer patient.

YoN I certainly enjoy reading everything you post. I also get all my news here, even news from my own State!

Zuri Good to see you posting sweet lady. That obituary was really funny! Her dogs Tad, Tad, Tad, and Tad :giggle: She sounded like my own mom, unfortunately she would tell you the truth EVEN if you didn't ask for it. I remember me and my friend from across the street were leaving my house. We walked out my front door and through my front yard. When we were one step away from the street, my mother YELLED out of the front door..."Your a$$ looks as big as Doris Fleener's" OMG I about died with embarrassment. Doris Fleener was a very obese girl that lived down the street.

Dmacky ~ Well it hypes me up! LOL I take a bigger dose than most do and take it twice as long; maybe that is why? Yes, by all means your daughter should let all medical and dentist know she had that reaction!!

Cold here too! Snow will be coming ion later this evening. Calling for 4 inches by Wed. Then Friday another snow maker will be here. Guess you can say we are paying for the very mild spring like Dec we had :). I bet you get something from both systems, too. Hope you don't get the mixed or ice :(

GOOD MORNING
Be kind and honest and stop looking all negatives and think of your blessings in life. Wear a SMILE and be proud of it. Have great day!

Hello everyone. Been super busy with some home repairs. Will try to read back and catch up later.

Hope all are doing ok.

Dmacky, it sure sounds like your daughter had an allergic reaction to that antibiotic. Many people get those type of allergic reactions and they are quite scary. I doubt it was the prednisone, as that is what we give people to counteract allergic reactions. Pred certainly puts the weight on and it is tough to lose. It will take me a year to get rid of all this weight I have gained from them.

KCL has been on a Medrol dose pack for the "environmental" exposures she endured on her most recent trip East and has remarked at how much energy she has and feels great. Pred sure gives you zoom in the zoom, until it doesn't lol.

Cute! got a few chuckles from Glad see you back, my friend. You doing ok?

Thank you for asking my sweet CJ! I am taking it one day at a time. I had to go to Marshalls Home Goods yesterday to get some things and saw a woman trying on a jacket that had an equestrian look. I told her she looked fab in it and she looked like a horse person. Don't ask me why as it just came to me. It turned out she was and had Arabians like Bernina does.

We got to talking and I became teary as I talked about Knox in the present, yet it is the past IYKWIM. Like I have a horse, yet I don't have a horse. I got a call on my way into the store from the crematorium telling me his ashes were ready to be picked up. They are over 50 lbs, in a mahaghony box, so I will need my daughter to go with me to help carry them to the car. I would like to get them before the snow hits at the end of the week.

Happy Birthday to Daisy!

I can't seem to get the emoji to post.

Happy Birthday, *Daisymae! Have a super day! :partyguy::balloons:
(oops, I changed Daisy to Dmacky ..... guessDmacky might have to have two birthdays this year from me)

hugs for you, (((((Zuri)))))

*ETA: name correction

Hi Zuri , I think it may. be soothing for you having ashes from Knox. I have ashes from my Red and my Buffy.
They will go I with me when I die (again). I look at them now and I still cry but I am glad to have them. Our DeeDee
who was Amys puppy, came here with her is with our Papa. I am keeping my Molly. She had all her shots last week. Now it's dental for her next month. She was neglected poor baby. Did I ever tell you I saw DeeDee after she died? She walked through my bedroom , I could see through her! see now Knox is up there romping around, free of pain, living in beauty. Zuri I believe..(((hugs))).:HHJP:

This says it all... -6 below here!!

I love this song.

When watching the video I noticed and heard something alarming. Could this old movie and song have shown one of the earliest usages of someone using a Date Rape Drug ?

At one point she takes a sip of her drink and gets up and sings something like
"Whats in the Drink" ?

I had always thought date rape drugs were just a modern thing with Rupies and GHB and the like. But after seeing that and thinking about it more. I think date rape drugs were actually used many years ago.

This movie scene seems to portray that.

Other older references

Spanish Fly legends

Bill Cosby with Quaaludes

of course alcohol too which is a form of a drug

There are probably many more older examples of this sort of thing. So its not really a new phenomenom. Just the drugs the perps used are more current drugs.

Some happy Tuesday-- :badmood:

A foot of snow is on the ground here in lovely Upstate NY

ANDDDD I think the drain under the bathtub in my son's bathroom seems to be frozen (which is affecting the toilets, but not the other drains - which seems strange).
I have been running some hot water in the tub to see if that solves the problem, but the tub drain is running slow.
I hate this :gaah:- I'm not a handy person. :scared: so I don't know if I should call Roter-Rooter now or wait some???????
Last time this happened, it cost me about $1300 to have the plumber unfreeze the waste pipes (one of the pipes was actually solid ice on the inside and one of the waste pipe was actually hanging on the ground. :scared: ).

So- "pleasant" AM :sheesh:

(I'm taking a break from the mess now)

This makes me want to get an apartment where there is a superintendent to fix messes.

Anyway- some more potential "great" news for the weekend:

East Coast Snowstorm Is Expected to Hit This Weekend

"
Days after a snowfall on the East Coast, any hope of a return to 60-degree winter was officially dashed on Tuesday as meteorologists warned that the season’s first significant winter storm could be fast approaching.

But some forecasters say it’s too early to expect the storm to make history, and forget those dreams of Florida. The Sunshine State has its own weather problems...

The storm expected this weekend could change those numbers. Mr. Otto said that one to two feet of snow could be expected from Washington, D.C., to New York and Boston, but warned that it was still too early to pinpoint exact snowfall numbers yet.

“There’s potential for blizzard conditions” including strong winds, Mr. Otto said, “but it’s too early to say exactly who and where and when that could occur.”...

He did say that a nor’easter, a weather event defined by its blustery winds, is likely on its way..."
