I am sorry about my gutted post yesterday. Today is better. I had been looking for a well bred broodmare that had bloodlines similar to Knox's for over a year. I thought I found one, got all the info, and wanted to buy her sight unseen. Another buyer had expressed interest first and was given first dibs on her, so it was a major disappointment. Such is life in the horse world as well.

I had walked downstairs and my daughter had put Knox's halter on his box and that was it. The ebb and flow of grief has no timeline, so I am just going with it.

Jodi Arias reveals what life in prison is like - saying the chicken fajitas are delicious, fan mail keeps pouring in and she's staying slim by standing all day

"Arias offered a glimpse into her life behind bars in a phone conversation with her long-time supporter, rapper Kareem 'Lefty' Williams
Williams produced a controversial music video about PTSD and domestic violence that featured Arias...

Arias told Williams that she usually skips dinner, which has allowed her to keep the pounds off despite the carbohydrate-heavy food offerings.
‘I stand up all day,’ she says. ‘I think that helps.’ :sheesh:

The 35-year-old convicted murderer also talked about her leisure time behind bars, saying she has a wide selection of TV channels at her disposal, including ABC, TBS, PBS, CNN, USA, Lifetime, TNT, Univision and A&E, as well as FM radio, but she's unable to tune in to AM stations.

Williams and Arias also discussed his controversial music video about her life, which has been pulled from YouTube after the rapper was panned for using her likeness and name to talk about PTSD and domestic violence.

Oh yeah, haters are gonna hate,’ she tells her friend, who goes on to say that he believes the pair of them are the most hated people in the country.

‘It’s all good. If this is what it is like to be hated, then keep hating!’ she says. ‘I’ve had so much love coming in my direction I can’t even respond to it now.’

The 35-year-old convict argued that Williams should be flattered by the negative attention.

‘It doesn’t matter how bad it is,’ Arias says. ‘You should be flattered that somebody took the time…These people have no life or they’re really in love with you.’.."

Amanda Knox Was at Scene of Murder: Convicted Killer Rudy Guede

"ROME — The man convicted of killing a British student in the Amanda Knox case broke his silence Thursday, insisting the American was at the scene of the crime on the night of the murder.

Rudy Guede, who is serving a 16-year sentence for killing Knox's roommate Meredith Kercher, protested his innocence from an Italian jail in his first television interview.

He recounted the events surrounding Kercher's death in a Perugia apartment in 2007, repeating his claim that he was in the bathroom when the 21-year-old was fatally attacked.

The 30-year-old insisted he saw Knox, now 28, and another man in the apartment when he rushed to investigate Kercher's screams..."

Santa Clara: Woman faces murder charge in son's bathtub drowning :(

"SANTA CLARA -- A Santa Clara woman faces a murder charge in the alleged bathtub drowning of her 12-year-old son earlier this month, a crime she initially claimed was an accident but later confessed to under police interrogation, authorities said.

Tara McNeill Palajac, 51, was arraigned Jan. 14 in the death of her adopted son at their home on Conner Place off Forest Avenue and Winchester Boulevard. She has not entered a plea and is expected to return to court Feb. 1...

Police say that detectives, including Rodriguez, conducted a lengthy follow-up interview Jan. 11 with Palajac, during which she reportedly admitted that she held the child under water "until he was lifeless." She was arrested the next day and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail, where she remains without bail."

The Doomsday Clock is ticking again. It is now three minutes to ‘midnight,’ a.k.a the end of humanity.

"It is now three minutes to midnight, according to the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, which is warning that the end of humanity may be nigh. The group behind the famed "Doomsday Clock" announced at a news conference that it was adjusting the countdown to the End of it All by taking away two minutes. It is the closest the clock has been to Doomsday since 1984.

The time is symbolic, sitting at the intersection of art and science, and it has wavered between two minutes and 17 minutes til doom since the clock's inception in 1947. A board of scientists and nuclear experts meets regularly to determine what time it is on the Doomsday Clock...

Here is every time the Doomsday Clock has moved, and why, according to the Bulletin:.."

Doomsday Clock

"The Doomsday Clock is a symbolic clock face, representing a countdown to possible global catastrophe (e.g. nuclear war or climate change). It has been maintained since 1947 by the members of the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists,[1] who are in turn advised by the Governing Board and the Board of Sponsors, including 18 Nobel Laureates. The closer they set the Clock to midnight, the closer the scientists believe the world is to global disaster...."

Woman who protested at White House for 35 years dies
Between 1981 and 2016, Concepcion Picciotto spent more than 12,500 days outside the White House during five presidential administrations.

"WASHINGTON, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Concepcion Picciotto, who kept a peace vigil against nuclear weapons outside the White House for three-and-a-half decades -- believed to be the longest protest in U.S. history -- died this week at a homeless shelter in Washington, officials said.

Picciotto recently suffered a fall, but the cause of her death Monday was not immediately known. A Spanish immigrant, Concepcion, known as "Connie" to many, was believed to be about 80 years old.

She began her anti-nuclear proliferation vigil outside the presidential residence in August 1981, just six months into Ronald Reagan's administration. But the protest, known as the White House Peace Vigil, was actually started two months earlier by activist William Thomas..."

When 'Free' Windows 10 Becomes Expensive, You Should Fear This

"Here is a date which should worry you: July 29th 2016. This is the date Microsoft MSFT -1.96% will start charging for Windows 10. Here is another date which should worry you more: July 17th, 2017. Why? Because it just made July 29th, 2016 one heck of a lot worse.

July 17th, 2017 is at the heart of perhaps Microsoft’s most disingenuous attempt yet to force users onto Windows 10. It has tried numerous tricks like automatically downloading Windows 10 on your computer and placing it in a secret folder (even if you declined the upgrade), and gradually reducing the ease of saying no with malware-like pop up choices such as ‘upgrade now’ or ‘upgrade tonight’ (see below).

But July 17th, 2017 is the killer. This is the last possible date Microsoft will allow Windows 7 or Windows 8 to be used on a cutting edge computer and still receive essential support like security patches. If this sounds a bit odd that’s understandable because Windows 7 and Windows 8 were meant to be supported until 14 January 2020 and 10 January 2023 respectively. But under the new rules that only applies if your hardware stays in the dark ages.

Right now these rules are being forced on businesses only, but there seems no reason it won’t be expanded to consumers. Microsoft isn’t fooling anyone, even traditional allies are angry. But the real fear for Windows 10 owners is not that this date hurts Windows 7, which is on 55% of computers worldwide, but what it says about Windows 8 and its 10% market share…"

Virginia resident who traveled abroad tests positive for Zika virus

"A Virginia resident who traveled outside the United States has tested positive for the mosquito-transmitted Zika virus, state health officials said on Tuesday.

The adult resident had recently traveled to a country where Zika virus transmission was ongoing and the infection was confirmed through testing by U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Virginia Department of Health said in a statement.

"Zika virus is acquired through the bite of an infected mosquito. Because it is not mosquito season in Virginia, this individual with Zika virus infection poses no risk to other Virginians," Virginia Health Commissioner Dr. Marissa Levine said in a statement...

The virus has been linked to brain damage in thousands of babies in Brazil. There is no vaccine or treatment for Zika, a close cousin of dengue and chikungunya, which causes mild fever and rash.

Levine suggested travelers planning to leave the country this winter for warmer climates check health travel advisories and urged pregnant women in particular to avoid Zika-affected countries..."

Experts: USA must prepare now for Zika virus

"U.S. public health officials must prepare now for the inevitable arrival of Zika virus, a mosquito-borne infection that has spread to 22 countries and territories in the Americas and poses particular danger to pregnant women, health experts said.

The virus is expected to spread to the United States and every country in the Western hemisphere where Aedes mosquitoes, which spread the virus, are known to live, according to the Pan American Health Organization. Aedes mosquitoes live in every Western hemisphere country but Canada and Chile.

Zika poses little risk to most people. But health officials are worried about its link to Brazil's recent increase in a type of birth defect called microcephaly, in which infants are born with small skulls and incomplete brain development, said Lawrence Gostin, director of the O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University in Washington..."

My dear Zuri, I can't possibly offer better advice than has already been given. I especially love the comments by Atthelake and YesorNo (I think she came back just in time), but I will add a little to what others have said.

Mentally and emotionally coming to terms with things can take some time, but that time can be eased and shortened a bit by letting your body do its thing. Left to its own devices, our physical beings respond in such amazing ways to emotional distress, if we can let go enough mentally to simple allow them, and trust that our bodies (where our emotions reside) know what's best for us.

Tears are more than just a salty fluid that falls from our eye ducts. Crying is an essential part of the purging process, a catharsis that helps to wash away the psychic pain. Sleep and bed-rest also help facilitate the emotional healing that our mind/spirit are seeking to achieve. This is especially important when there is a cognitive dissonance between the reality that is and the reality that we wish to be true. Much more than being physically restorative, sleep and rest give our souls time to reconcile those things behind the scenes (in our subconscious).

An additional "therapy" -- and I know this is going to sound strange -- but I got onto this from a healer whom I deeply respect, and it has worked for me: Go outside without a coat. Now is perfect, while it's cold out. Stand out there and breathe the cold air and feel your body tense up. Soon you'll start shivering, but that's the point. Shivering sends spasms through your body as it tries to warm itself up. But those spasms, much like tears, act to release all that pent-up stuff; all that negative energy. I know it sounds a bit crazy, but trust me; it works wonders.

Allowing yourself to acknowledge the pain, and giving yourself and your body the "okay" to deal with it without fear of judgment (from yourself or others), will go a long way towards getting back to stasis.

And please, I hope you'll give yourself credit for having had the courage and humility to reach out. We fool ourselves into thinking that we're individuals. In reality, we're all connected. Just as the cells in your body want to work together to protect you and help you heal, so do the people who care about you.

GigiG, wonderful post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really think that it's that simple. No, no, I am not at all intenting to downplay Zuri's grief - I said "simple" not "easy"... ;)

Gerber Baby

"...History

Fremont Canning Company, owned and operated by Frank Daniel Gerber and his son Daniel Frank Gerber, was looking for a baby face for its new baby-food campaign that was to start in the latter part of 1928.[2] To find a baby face that it believed would best represent the new baby food, the Fremont Canning Company conducted a contest in the summer of 1928.[3] Many drawings and paintings were submitted. Some were elaborate baby portraits in oil paint, while others were simple sketches.[4]

Dorothy Hope Smith of Westport, Connecticut, an artist specializing in children’s drawings, submitted an unfinished charcoal drawing that was closer to a simple sketch than a professional drawing.[4] Smith told the judges that, if the sketch were selected as the winner, she would finish it professionally.[3] The drawing won but, to her surprise, the judges wanted no changes to it.[5]...

The model for Smith's original sketch, Ann Turner Cook grew up to be a mystery novelist and English teacher.[1] Although she avoided publicity for many years, Cook more recently has granted interviews to several Florida newspapers.[4]..."

You could lose thousands of dollars. Here's what to look out for.

"...Online con artists can create websites that look almost identical to the popular home-renting website Airbnb.com and succeed in siphoning thousands of dollars from unsuspecting users. It happens fairly often.

The conman who pulled off history's most audacious scam

"In October 1822, Gregor MacGregor, a native of Glengyle, Scotland, made a striking announcement. He was, he said, not only a local banker’s son, but the Cazique, or prince, of the land of Poyais along Honduras’s Black River.

A little larger than Wales, the country was so fertile it could yield three maize harvests a year. The water, so pure and refreshing it could quench any thirst – and as if that weren’t enough, chunks of gold lined the riverbeds. The trees overflowed with fruit, and the forest teemed with game. Painting an exotic, Edenic vision of a new life abroad, his proposal offered quite the contrast with the rainy darkness and rocky soils of Scotland.

What Poyais lacked, he said, was willing investors and settlers to develop and leverage its resources to the fullest. At the time, investments in Central and South America were gaining in popularity, and Poyais appeared to be a particularly appealing proposition.

Scotland didn’t have any colonies of her own, after all. Could this not be a corner of the new world for her own use?

Would you have fallen for the scam? MacGregor was a master salesman – and when you consider the psychological underpinnings behind con artistry, it is little wonder that many people were indeed fooled...."

A couple of poems to make you smile today :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm Staying Home From School Today

I'm staying home from school today.
I'd rather be in bed
pretending that I have a pain
that's pounding in my head.

I'll say I have a stomach ache.
I'll claim I've got the flu.
I'll shiver like I'm cold
and hold my breath until I'm blue.

I'll fake a cough. I'll fake a sneeze.
I'll say my throat is sore.
If necessary I can throw
a tantrum on the floor.

I'm sure I'll get away with it.
Of that, there's little doubt.
But, even so, I really hope
my students don't find out.

~Kenn Nesbitt
------------------------------------------------------

Please don't read this poem

Please don't read this poem.
It's only meant for me.
That's it. Just move along now.
There's nothing here to see.

Besides, I'm sure you'd rather
just go outside and play.
So put the poem down now
and slowly back away.

Hey, why are you still reading?
That isn't very nice.
I've asked you once politely.
Don't make me ask you twice.

I'm telling you, it's private.
Do not read one more line.
Hey! That's one more. Now stop it.
This isn't yours; it's mine.

You're not allowed to read this.
You really have to stop.
If you don't quit this instant,
I swear I'll call a cop.

He'll drag you off in handcuffs.
He'll lock you up in jail,
and leave you there forever
until you're old and frail.

Your friends will all forget you.
You won't be even missed.
Your family, too, will likely
forget that you exist.

And all because you read this
instead of having fun.
It's too late now, amigo;
the poem's nearly done.

There's only one solution.
Here's what you'll have to do:
Tell all your friends and family
they shouldn't read it too.

Susza has agreed to be my baby sitter in Florida in late March! She is coming to the US! over her spring break! We will be in the West Palm Beach area, staying with my son, so if anyone is going to be in Florida, please let me know! My bus can pick you up!

Susza is a hiker, Trekker, fit, lovely athletic person and has agreed to take it way down to my level and sit by the pool, go to the beach, and go to the Winter Equestrian Festival. Wait till she gets a load of me lol. Total antithesis.

I am hoping we can drive down to Key West so she could see where the Atlantic meets the Gulf of Mexico and get a taste of Margaritaville.

I have thought about taking her on one of those Everglades tours too, on one of those air pontoon boats. If you all have any suggestions, please let us know. Disney World? 3 day Bahamas cruise? Daytona Beach lol?

I just realized that thousands of college kids are probably off too and will be in Florida, so it should be interesting. Susza's English is really good and I bet she and I will learn some new words.. Hopefully, they don't hang out in Boca... I am getting old.

OMG....... is Susza REALLY coming to the States? :happydance:

I hope I read your post right, Zuri. I am so excited! Now if the bus goes by Michigan, I will hop on. Otherwise .... I sure hope her trip is all she wants and more. wonderful news! You all will have a great time !

Hello Friends.....took a little break.

Going to read back today and tonight to catch up.

Hope everyone doing ok.

OMG.....

That will be so much FUN.

My best vacation ever was in West Palm Beach. A nice fairly quiet atmostphere and BEAUTIFUL water on the beach.

The water is actually BLUE down there....LOL

Up in New York area when I lived there, the water is kind of a murky brownish color which is sad. Plus the shells in New York's Jones Beach area were all broken shells that would cut my feet. LOL

I was in heaven when I went to Florida!

It was everything I expected and much much more.

We went to the Miami Sea Acquarium in Miami Beach area when we were there. You should take her there. It is great. Tropic birds flying around the park and Dolphin show and just an all around fun time.

The air boat everglade tour is great idea too. We wanted to do that but ran out of time. If you do that, I think they have 1 specifically that will show you alligators. Take that 1. LOL

Hello all!

Hi....just looked. The new Holocaust thread is actually in the Jury Room, and exists very much thanks to Daisy, not me.

Looking forward to reading what gets posted there.

When it's up - please post a link, and I think we should move some of the posts from YESorNO over there too! :D

I just spoke with Warden Frigo- she says they have received tons of calls about #jodiarias phone call. She says they are not happy.

Perryville reported it has received dozens of complaints over the @radaronline story w/ recording of #jodiarias. They are investigating.

Good! She should be in solitary confinement....
