Hey, when I was in Kindergarten, I told my mom my teacher was old- she was 30!!

My kindergarten teacher was only 4'11". On the first day of school I came home and told Momma that I liked Miss Lewis because she was "low-down like us!" :floorlaugh:

Unless the person is not from Mexico (i.e. Honduras, Guatemala, etc.) Mexican is the correct descriptor. If you're unsure Latino (male or unknown gender) or Latina (female) are better descriptors. Some people like to be referred to as Chicano or Chicana, but unless they say so it's best to stick with Latino/a. The real outdated term, imho, is hispanic.

Actually here in Calif, of which I am a native, lived in So. Cal and Nor. Cal my whole life, Chicano/a is more outdated than Hispanic... Haven't heard Chicano used since college in the '80's.
Also, they'll usually be quick to tell you if they're from some other Spanish-speaking country such as Argentina, Brazil, or Equador, so in Calif, it's usually Mexican, then Hispanic, then Latina in order of use.

I can so appreciate this being "low down" myself!!!

I tell people I'm 5'0 even, but I'm really a 1/4 inch from actually standing a full 5'0 tall! In the eighties I was probably 5'1 with the big hair and all...:blushing: (I had the "build 'em tall, let 'em fall" kind of bangs and pouf on top!:blushing::seeya:

I woke up angry about HLN .. I am a little over the whole, let's find someone who is clearly guilty we can talk about endlessly for months, possibly cause a mistrial, and even accuse them of having 'issues' based on when they do / do not speak spanish at a party.

Just the fact that they said they were willing to look at a plea makes me think they are not overly confident JSS would give her LWOP..I think she disallowed far too much evidence from the jury and feel she would do the same in a retry. I simply do not feel she was in control of her courtroom. She should never have allowed the defense experts to speak back at the prosecutor as she did without stern admonitions to both of them. When ALV's cronies, including ja's mitigation specialist, laughed out loud, when ALV snarkily said to JM if he was in one of her groups she would tell him he needed a time out, JSS should have expelled all of them from the court room immediately. And admonished ALV sternly in open court :moo:

The judge has to approve any deal regardless, though, does she not? So if they come up with a LWOP deal and she wanted LWP she could sentence to LWP? Or say no, and back they go to the next DP penalty trial?

I think her leaving HLN is a good move. She has so much more potential.

That was my thought, too, ElleElle. Actually, I've often wondered why someone of her high caliber ever had anything to do with the likes of HLN in the first place. I hope one of the network hot shots is smart enough to give her her own show. If I can't have CTV and Fred Graham back, I'll settle for Beth five nights a week.
